Led by Professor Matt Duckham within RMIT’s School of Science, the Geographic Knowledge Lab is at the forefront of GeoAI research, advancing how knowledge representation, spatial reasoning, and machine learning come together to support better spatial decision-making across government, industry, and society. #Future of #Work & #ZeroCarbon in #Construction - BRANZ+ConCOVE Tūhura The transition to a zero-carbon built environment is one of the defining challenges for Aotearoa New Zealand’s construction sector. It isn’t only about new #technologies and #materials, it’s also about #skills, #knowledge, and preparing our #workforce for what lies ahead. BRANZ and ConCOVE Tūhura have launched a #national #survey to capture perspectives from across the sector. The aim is to understand current levels of #awareness and #readiness, and to identify the #capabilities needed to support a #sustainable, #climateresponsive #future. Modernising the Building Research Levy marks a defining moment for Aotearoa’s future-environments landscape. We finally have a national conversation that recognises the need for #BuildingResearchFunding, #SectorAlignment, and a model capable of supporting the next wave of #FutureEnvironmentsInnovation. The Minister’s announcement sets a clear and timely direction — one that acknowledges the complexity of our sector and signals a willingness to reshape the system for the better. At the same time, BRANZ has offered a thoughtful reminder of what must remain intact. Our progress relies on #IndependentResearchCapability, #PublicGoodScience, and evidence that supports #ResilientFutureEnvironments. Modernisation succeeds when it strengthens that foundation rather than eroding it. From the vantage point of a school dedicated to #FutureEnvironments, working at the intersection of #IndustryAndAcademia, #EnvironmentalSystems, #UrbanFutures, and #DigitalTransformation, this shift presents genuine opportunity. If the balance is struck well, Aotearoa can build a research system that is: • #SectorLed, • #ContestableInTheRightPlaces, • #StableWhereContinuityMatters, and • courageous enough to invest in #NextGenerationResearch. The call now is for #Partnership. Universities, industry bodies, practitioners, and government will need to co-shape a system that blends agility with depth — #InnovationWithMemory. This is a rare moment to redefine #AotearoaResearchFutures in a way that truly matches the scale of the challenges ahead.
