Graduate Engineer Mikayla Jensen knew engineering was for her back in Year 10 and now she’s out at Condabri Central getting hands-on experience across everything from retiring old gas assets to supporting new wells. No two days look the same and a big part of the role is working closely with crews in the field and teams in Brisbane to get the job done safely. We’re continuing to invest in our graduate program, with women now making up more than 50% of our Engineering Graduate cohort. 

Another milestone at Mortlake.  Our 300MW large scale battery at Mortlake in south-west Victoria has commenced commercial operations following the completion of major commissioning works.  Hear from Project Engineer James K. on the progress so far, and how big batteries support more renewable energy and a more reliable grid.

2026 was another big year at Origin. More customers chose to electrify their homes, businesses and vehicles and look for smarter ways to manage how they use energy. A quarter of Origin’s customers now generate their own electricity with solar, and home battery installs increased by 90%. Over the past 10 years, Origin’s Regional Apprentice and Trainee Program has helped 92 local apprentices and trainees gain nationally recognised qualifications and build careers across our upstream gas operations. Origin’s Senior Engineer Lacey Waller once thought she might end up working in an F1 pit crew. While her career has taken a different path, the fast-pace, technical problem solving, and hands-on equipment are still a big part of what she loves about engineering.    Working in Asset Management Engineering, she’s seen first-hand how important it is to have strong female mentors around you and to help create an environment where more young women can see themselves in these kinds of roles.
