The Royal Australian Navy's Maritime Geospatial Warfare Unit hydrographic team conducted survey operations on the Derwent River in 📍 Hobart, Tas. Hydrographic systems operators use advanced sensors to collect and analyse a range of data crucial for ensuring ship safety and enhanced situational awareness for the Royal Australian Navy. Future Geospatial Intelligence Operators are learning to operate under pressure, but that confidence is not built in the classroom alone. 💪 The ADF’s Geospatial Intelligence Wing, within the Defence School of Intelligence and part of Joint Training Command, brings staff and learners together through a resilience program designed to build physical, mental and social resilience. Huntsman tested in the field The Australian-made AS9 Huntsman made its debut in the field, deployed for the 1st (Australian) Division’s premier warfighter Exercise Pozieres Run at 📍 Townsville Field Training Area, Qld. The self-propelled howitzer, a protected mobile artillery system, represents an uplift in capability and fire power, continuing Army’s transformation into a modern integrated fighting force. 3rd Brigade crews fully tested its warfighting capability at the exercise in a series of realistic integrated activities. Commanding Officer of the 4th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, Lieutenant Colonel Simon Frewin, said it was a game-changer for the regiment and, as a single fighting vehicle instead of a towed gun, gave commanders more combat options. #YourADF #AusArmy

Members of HMAS Canberra III recently gathered with US Marines from Marine Rotational Force - Darwin to honour a naval battle that took place 84 years ago. The commemoration, held at 📍 Larrakeyah Barracks, Darwin, remembered the Battle of Savo Island on the night of 9 August, 1942. During the battle, Canberra I was struck 24 times in under two minutes and later sank, taking 84 lives with it. The bravery shown that night, and the sacrifice of the sailors who never returned home, remains a guiding spirit for the men and women who serve on Canberra III today. The catalyst for her career in STEM was encouragement from enthusiastic science teachers. 👩🏫💥 Kilahney joined Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) through the Defence Graduate Program. She’s spent the past three years using chemistry to solve a wide range of problems, bringing an understanding of the Defence context to these investigations. Now, she’s examining opportunities for PhD studies while continuing to work for Defence.
