ABx Group was pleased to participate in the Australian Aluminium Council’s 2026 Parliamentary Showcase in #Canberra. The event provided an opportunity to highlight #ALCORE’s novel process for recovering hydrogen fluoride from #aluminium smelter bath. ALCORE’s #technology has the potential to transform this by-product into valuable industrial chemicals while supporting greater domestic #supplychain resilience and Australia’s #circulareconomy ambitions. ABx Group Managing Director Mark Cooksey was pleased to present the technology to Resources Minister Madeleine King and highlight the potential of ALCORE’s developing Bell Bay pilot plant in #Tasmania.

Construction of the #ALCORE pilot plant in Bell Bay, #Tasmania has reached another important milestone. Following receipt of the building permit, construction is now well underway, with civil works progressing, electrical infrastructure being upgraded and process equipment arriving on site ready for installation. At the same time, detailed engineering, equipment manufacture and HAZOP studies continue to advance in preparation for commissioning. The continuous pilot plant will demonstrate ALCORE's world-first proprietary process to produce #hydrogenfluoride from #aluminium smelter by-product. Hydrogen fluoride is a critical industrial chemical used in applications including #battery materials, #semiconductors and solar cells, yet Australia currently imports all of its requirements.

ABx Group has announced its 83%-owned subsidiary #ALCORE has completed an indicative economic on its world-first proprietary process to produce high-value #hydrogenfluoride from #aluminium smelter waste. Based on current prices, the ALCORE process is estimated to be in the lowest quartile for hydrogen fluoride production cost and represents a 30-60% operating margin. Hydrogen fluoride is used for critical applications such as lithium-ion #batteries, #semiconductor manufacture and #metal production. #Australia currently imports all its fluorine products, presenting ALCORE with an opportunity to form a strategic position in the nation's #CircularEconomy supply chain.

ABx Group (ASX: ABX) continues to build its technical capability at the ALCORE Technology Centre in Bell Bay, Tasmania, with an experienced engineering team driving the development of its continuous pilot plant. In this video, meet Senior Process Engineers Terence Crawford and Marthinus Dannhauser, who discuss their backgrounds, what attracted them to the ALCORE project, and the work underway to transition the process from batch testing to continuous pilot scale. With final engineering and balance of plant design progressing, the team is laying the foundations for pilot plant construction and the next stage of ALCORE's commercial development. ABx Group (ASX: ABX) is advancing the development of its ionic adsorption clay rare earths project in Tasmania through ongoing metallurgical test work. In this video, Principal Engineer Daniel Jewell explains the leaching process used to extract rare earth elements from ABX’s ionic clay deposits. Unlike hard rock rare earth deposits, ionic clays allow rare earths to be recovered using a mild ammonium sulfate solution, offering a simpler and potentially lower-cost processing pathway. The process produces a mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC), the industry-standard product used in downstream rare earth separation and refining.
