Ruins & Relics Playtest

The Dungeon Needs You!

Hi everyone. I’m proud to report that Ruins & Relics is in its final phase of development. I am now looking to playtest the game. I have a few seats left at the table to fill and you are invited! The game is open to people aged 18 and up of any level of TTRPG experience. If you are still new to role playing games or have never played an in an old-school campaign and are curious, this is a great place to start. Please contact me at tad@wyrmlord.com if you are interested.

Time & Dates

7-11pm EST Friday Nights (weekly)

June 12th – End of September (Late Comers are welcome if seats are available)

Game & Playstyle

Ruins & Relics is a game that emulates the playstyle of Basic D&D as it existed in the early 80s, though streamlined with a d20 user interface. If you’ve not played this before the quick synopsis is that it is a vey lean ruleset built around exploration and treasure acquisition. It is much grittier than modern versions of D&D, and much less story driven. Instead it focusses more on things like clever problem solving, resource management, sneakiness and diplomacy.

Campaign Theme

Traditional dungeon exploration. The game includes a sample dungeon geared at teaching new DMs and players the game. We will be exploring this dungeon in the campaign.

Party Size

I would like to have between 6-8 players. As of writing this I currently have 3. Larger party sizes were par for the course in old-school D&D. Also, this allows flexibility with scheduling. If one or two people can’t make a session we can just fill their places with hired retainers that night. So this frees us up from having to try to coordinate everyone’s schedules from week to week.

Format

This will be an online game. We will be playing largely theatre of the mind but using a virtual tabletop for combat. The voice and video feed will be hosted through Discord while we will be using Roll20 for the VTT. Each person can either choose to create a character or use one of the provided pre-generated characters I’ve created for the game.

Playtest Materials

You can find all the documents needed for the game over at Wyrm Lord. You will not need the Dungeon Master’s Guide but I have made it available for whoever might want to playtest the game on their own (if you wish to play in my game please do not read through the Sample Dungeon Section). You will need to download the Player’s Manual and a Character Sheet, or alternatively, one of the Character Cards should you wish to play a pre-gen.

UPDATE: All Seats At The Table Are Currently Filled
