Still not quite used to the daylight savings, as I did wake up at my first alarm, but the second one didn't quite wake me. Which is odd because from what I remember I was dreaming, though of course I may have fallen asleep, gone into deep sleep and then into REM sleep just before waking up at around 8am.
Not that it matters a huge deal as apart from checking out tomorrow morning and catching the plane in the evening I'm not going to be using the clock a huge deal. Due to various timing things I'm going to be at the airport fairly early. This is because I'm going to be dropped off by
dalekboy, who is then going to pick up
shazgirl after her work and give the kids a chance to play. This is better than trying to cram any tourist sites in Canberra in while dragging two cases around. I've played tourist nearly enough this trip. I've got one thing down here that I'd quite like to see, and if I can fit that in tomorrow it would be good. There's apparently a discovery centre for the snowy hydro system very close to where we are. So if all goes well and it can be fitted into the day, then I'd like to spend a little time there.
I've had a look at the weather for Perth for the next few days and at least I should be able to get my laundry done, which I will need to do. I'm not quite out of clothes yet, but it's pushing the limit, and I would rather not have to squeeze it into my remaining time here. One load of laundry per location is pretty much the limit I'm trying to keep to.
I managed to get up and over to their place mid-morning. Spent some time entertaining the kids and building duplo stuff which allowed
shazgirl to get some stuff done without constant distractions. Possibly catalysed by my interest there's been a bit more thermomix use in the last few days. It is also helped now by my using my outside perspective. When you move into a place you put things in spots that seem reasonable then, but some of the kitchen appliances were a bit awkward to use in current placings. Since they had done some extra shelving after moving in I suggested that the microwave would be better on that shelf rather than awkwardly in that corner. A short burst of moving of appliances occurred and the setup is much improved for everyone, since
shazgirl can now more easily look into the thermomix while using it and the microwave door can now easily be opened and accessed. It's so easy to get used to having things a certain way that sometimes it is just the fresh perspective that allows change to be suggested.
We had some of the excellent pea and ham soup that
shazgirl made for lunch, with some nice toasted bread. In the afternoon while I finished off the glove I made to replace the one I lost somewhere in canberra, probably the Novotel foyer, she also made some meatballs and sauce using the thermomix and also experimented with grinding up some spices for making mixes. Vague plans about looking at the little tourist train that runs on the limited track down here were spiked by it being a public holiday in ACT where she works, but not in NSW where they live. Phooey. Oh well. The kids also got some education in pyramids and how you could build one in duplo.
We did manage to have the chocolate mousse we had made the previous day for dessert. Oh yes. It's very nice. I think it has tipped me over the edge into definitely wanting one of these devices. Though next time I make the mousse not quite so much thickening of the cream, but it was still very very tasty.
The adults had second dessert later on, a second helping while
dalekboy and
shazgirl showed me Tropic Thunder which I had not seen before which is a silly movie, but a fun movie, and pokes fun at so many hollywood stereotypes. And yes, he really doesn't break character in the DVD commentary (see the trailer if you haven't seen the film). So I had a very pleasant evening, after a good day. After watching the movie, and seeing a few bits from the commentary, I got dropped back at my lodgings so that I could pack. I'm mostly packed now, with just the stuff I'm wearing now, and the bathroom stuff to be dealt with. And any remaining breakfast stuff, though it looks like I judged the milk just right. Should use that up tomorrow.
It has been lovely catching up with them. But it is time for me to let them get back into their usual routines, and for me to head home and see if any of my plants survived.
