Well, today I woke up about the same time I did the previous day. Which according to the clock on my phone was an hour later. Hello Daylight Savings Time. For a brief period at least. I'm not sure that I'll bother trying to get in sync there, since I'm only here for another couple of days. I've got the local time on my watch and phone etc so that I don't do silly things like miss flights, but I'm not sure that I'm going to try and get up at the new 7:30am. But I might. Who knows. My body may decide these things for me.
So, after waking up at this later hour I did my morning stuff, including breakfast, etc. etc. I am wearing in one of my new sets of jeans, the relaxed pair for comfort. I then headed out and down to the town to the shops. I decided to go to the other supermarket than the one I had previously been to. Partly so that I didn't have to go across the main street, which is actually quite busy at certain times, and partly because we'd been shopping there at the weekend and there had been an item that
dalekboy rather likes, that the other shop hadn't stocked. And I figured it wouldn't hurt to go look there. But the main reason I was going to the shops at all was for ingredients. Today was the day we were going to make the chocolate mousse in the thermomix. Partly because I wanted to give the thermomix a try. And partly because chocolate mousse sounded awesome. Which was acclaimed pretty much unanimously in the house. But because we had worked this out after we had done the weekly shopping we were a bit short on a few of the ingredients. So, since I wanted to do this I went to get the ones we still needed. As it turned out the other supermarket (see, Cooma is big enough to support two supermarkets) did have the item he wanted. Two potential variants in fact, with a sale price that was cheaper per item for two, so I got both variants and he can work out which he prefers for the future.
So, having obtained my eggs, cream, and chocolate as well as the aforementioned items and another thing I'd been asked to get if I saw it I headed back to my lodgings to grab my umbrella (in case it rained) and crochet (in case I had time - I'm still working on remaking one of my gloves) and walked over to their house. I'm rather glad that I've not been that sedentary on this trip. Will make getting back into the gym etc. easier. It also made me feel better about the chocolate mousse that I'm going to be eating.
So, got there in time for some hanging out of washing, (it was cold today, but sunny and quite windy so you take your chances where you can) and some lunch, and then the making of the mousse. I'd been to a demo shortly before I left Perth and had been impressed, and now that I've had a go on one I'm definitely more inclined to get one. Sure it's not cheap, but perhaps if I call this my year of splurging and just get it all out in one go that will be good. And the book that comes with it does seem to have some nice looking recipes in it. It does tend to do very detailed instructions, with minor variances allowed, due to the acknowledgement that there will be some variation in ingredients, and we may have thickened the cream a little much, but on the whole it is pretty easy to use, but as with so many recipes and instructions it is vital to read the entire recipe first rather than just starting at the top and working down as finding out after you have put the egg whites in that you now need to use it to make icing sugar would be a bit tricky. I and
shazgirl however are hardened instruction readers and in spite of the daylight savings fugue managed our way through the recipe only mildly incovenienced by the movements of toddlers and the position of the thermomix on a shelf rather than the bench (it will probably be moved fairly soon). So, from mostly source ingredients and with a reasonably small amount of equipment and stuff to be cleaned we achieved mousse. Well, it is currently setting, and by the time we finished it, it was too late for it to be had with dinner, even with the official time of dinner change due to the daylight savings. Plus we weren't going to be there for dinner anyway.
Due to a variety of reasons
shazgirl doesn't get to eat out very much, so whenever I'm in the same locality as her we try to go out for a meal at least once. As we were running out of evenings to do so, and given that tomorrow is yet another public holiday here, we decided to give that a go tonight. As it turns out Sunday evenings in Cooma do not produce a lot of open eating places, so we ended up at the chinese place just down the road from my lodgings. The staff were attentive, and we both got a dish and shared in the fine tradition of chinese dining, though of course being only two of us the N-1 dishes rule couldn't really be applied and we didn't quite finish all the dishes, but that was due to stomach capacity, not due to the quality of the meals which were tasty.
Having filled ourselves and not having room for dessert I got dropped back at my lodgings (it had been a busy day for all concerned,
shazgirl having made, in addition to the mousse, some soup, prepared for some muffins for tomorrow, helped make tea for those who weren't going out, two loads of laundry and a batch of toddlers. It had been busy for
dalekboy as well who had achieved quite a few things on his to do list. We figured no point in going back to their place and requiring someone to drive me back to my lodgings later when they were too tired.)
Got here, had a cuppa, watched a movie (Mirrormask - which I remember finding interesting before, but for some reason had managed to lose actual memory of what happened) and now winding down to go to sleep. I have touched bases with home and confirmed that I will be getting picked up from the airport, and worked out pretty much how I am getting to the airport, so overall this should be fine.)
Right, what else? I think that's pretty much it for the day. Oh, I also somehow, possibly due to all the domestic cooking etc. felt the urge to help out a bit and did some hoovering. The hoovering was the easy part, lifting the table to move the plastic floor coverings temporarily was a bit more effort. Possibly to get in practice for when I get home. Though I tend not to drop as much on the floor as toddlers do. Mind you they were very good this afternoon in the helping out stakes. All were impressed.
I am enjoying spending time with my friends. I just hope that I'm not underfoot too much. I'm trying to help out where I can.
