Blue Daisy

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (white, blue, yellow, green), Techniques (die cutting, dimensional flowers), Elements (background circular die cut, dimensional bouquet of flowers tied with blue gingham ribbon)

INCLUDE: white, blue, yellow, die cutting

MODIFY: stenciled background instead of die cut, flat (but popped up) single flower instead of bouquet,

EXCLUDE: green, ribbon

SPIN: square card, added jewels

The dramatic bouquet in the inspiration card is amazing! I love the pop of white and yellow against blue and I immediately thought of this daisy shaker die I have.

I used a circle mask and a stencil to create my blue background element, using two shades of blue to add subtle interest.

I backed my daisy die cut with a circle die cut, to keep all the petals in place (they would normally pop out if you're making a shaker with this die). I used another circle for the base of my flower centre and then one of the fancy flower centres that came with the daisy die set.  I finished it with some white gems.

Amazing Daisies

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (green, pink, orange, purple, blue, white), Techniques (stamping, fussy cutting), Elements (lots of white space, coloured sentiments, coloured stamping)

INCLUDE: green, pink, purple, white, stamping, white space

MODIFY: orientation of floral, stamped in black and coloured, left some uncoloured to keep a light feeling, black reverse sentiment (fussy cutting to create mask!), popped up whole circle panel

EXCLUDE:

SPIN: circle panel on square card

I loved the airiness of the inspiration cards. And I just got a super-pretty floral stamp set. This is a type of card I really haven't made in quite a while - stamped and coloured with copics. I wanted to try combining two of the stamps in the border set so I stamped the daisy border on my panel, then stamped it again on some 2 inch post-it tape, to create a mask.

I then stamped a leaf-only stamp from the same set twice, once extending above, and once below the daisies.

I coloured just the image from the first stamp, leaving the leaves from the second stamp white (and I realized my Copics need a spa day to be cleaned up and refilled!)

I trimmed the panel down with a circle die, to get rid of a smudge, and then added a reverse sentiment and popped up the panel before adding crystal glaze to the flower centres.

Butterfly Birthday

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (green, peach, pink, burgundy, black, white), Techniques (die cutting, stamping), Elements (floral background, circle focal panel, ladybug, stamped sentiment strip).

INCLUDE: colours, circle focal panel, stamped sentiment strip

MODIFY: lady bug to butterfly, florals to geometrics, less black

EXLUDE: embellishments

I love the rich colours on this patterned paper background, and I translated them into my CP colours before stamping my background with a turnabout stamp using the Altenew Stampwheel (so easy!).

Instead of a lady bug, I used a layered butterfly die set with black on the base, white in the centre, and a blend of the pink and peach on the top layers.

Hello, Spring!

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (red, white, yellow, green, gold), Techniques (die cuts), Elements (3D flowers and leaves, vertical arrangement, lady bug, kraft frame, slimline card, no sentiment)

INCLUDE: vertical, overlapping arrangement of main image

MODIFY: theme to spring, flowers to butterflies, slimline to A2, die cuts to stamping and colouring,

EXCLUDE: 3D elements, kraft frame

SPIN: added a sentiment

This gallery is amazing - absolutely full of gorgeous 3-dimensional flowers! Although these are clematis and it was likely a summer card, they remind me of poinsettias and Christmas, and I started by changing my theme to spring, by using stamped butterflies.

I used a couple of old-school tools for this card - an old favourite woodblock stamp and a stamp-a-ma-jig to help with positioning.  I masked to get an overlapping look, and then I coloured very simply with pastel shades of copic markers. Then I masked them again and blended the background for some contrast.

GeoFloral Thanks

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, vickydee!

I chose this card as my inspiration:

LIST: Colours (pastel pink, yellow, orange, green, blue, white) Techniques: (colouring, die cutting, stamping) Elements: geo/floral patterned paper, stamped friends image and sentiment, rectangle focal point, gingham ribbon with pearl, scalloped edge

INCLUDE: pastel rainbow, colouring, die cutting, stamping, pearls

MODIFY: die cut background fills card, one 'friend' with flowers, pink frame on end of stamped sentiment strip

EXCLUDE: scallop, ribbon, gingham,

SPIN: square card

I created this background with a new coverplate. It's a 3x4 grid, but it was easy to adapt to 3x3 with some sharp scissors. I blended ink on each petal on both endes, to create the look of dimension. I inlaid each petal and centre before removing the die cut frame to use on another card.

I cut and coloured my Waffle Flower 'friend with flowers' image with Copic colours that match the CP inks (for a FREE chart of my best Copic matches to all of Catherine's ink colours, click here).

When I was finished, I had lots of left over pieces from the coverplate die cuts so I made two more cards:

Brighten My Day with Tulips (and Discount Code!)

Tulips are my favourite flower and my favourite sign of spring! I love the simple shapes and the bright colours.

And getting more out of a stamp is one of my favourite crafty things to do. I used the Blooming Birthday set from Crafty Meraki, but I stamped it twice, off the edge, to get a different look than using the whole stamp.

I coloured it with Copics and added an inkblended sky, some stickles and Dew Drops.

And check out the gorgeous enamel pin that's available in the shop!

AND, I have a discount code: ARDYTH10 for 10% off your order!

Altenew Whimsical Wonder Stamps/Dies/Stencils/Embossing Folders Collection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Good morning! I'm excited to be part of a blog hop for Altenew's new Whimsical Wonder release, available now!

This card was made using the new Meadow Bush Layering stencils set. And watercolours!

Here's a quick look at my process:

Tips for success:

1) don't have too much water in your brush, or the paint will seep too far under the stencil. A little bit is ok, and it will give you a soft, hand painted look.

2) move quickly from one layer to the next for a soft look while the previous layer is still damp. Let each layer dry completely for a crisper look.

3) double up on the layers (photos 3 and 4) - you can get a more detailed look by painting one colour through the entire hole, and then taking a deeper or different shade and adding it through the same stencil, but with smaller areas

4) adding splatter will distract from any 'flaws'. This process gives lovely soft results, but when I looked too closely, I could see areas I didn't love. I added grey and gold splatter to give the eye more to look at!

GIVEAWAY:

$300 in total prizes! To celebrate this release, Altenew is giving away a $100 gift certificate to 1 lucky winner and a $25 gift certificate to 8 winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and/or each designer’s blog post on the blog hop list below by 04/11/2021 for a chance to win.

Altenew will draw 9 random winners from the comments left on each stop of this blog hop and announce the winners on the Altenew Winners Page on 04/13/2021.

Friends with Bookmark

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, Sandy (stampingwriter).

I chose this card as my inspiration:

LIST: flower, leaves, pocket, tag (on and off card), pastel colours (peach, lilac, pink, green, blue), diagonal element, dots

INCLUDE: pink flower, green leaves, bookmark/tag element, pastel colours, dots

MODIFY: dots are stencilled, not patterned paper; flower is die cut; bookmark attaches differently

EXCLUDE: diagonal pocket

SPIN: faux 'shaker' in the flower centre

This card shows more use of negative and positive die cuts (if you haven't seen my latest YouTube video about this, click here).

I used stacked up die cuts on the card itself to help hold the detachable bookmark in place. You can carefully remove the bookmark (and put it back on) without having to use any kind of adhesive!

And although I wanted the bookmark to play the part of 'white space' on my card, I didn't want it to be boring on its own, so I put colour on the reverse at the same time as adding colour to the main focal panel.

I cut two panels - one 4x5.25, the other 2x5.25. I created a pastel rainbow on both panels with my Catherine Pooler minis, direct to paper. Then I used the Catherine Pooler Pop Art stencil and blended the same inks over top for a tone on tone look on the larger panel.

I laid the bookmark on my rainbow panel and glued the stacked up die cuts in the negative spaces - precision is key here - if they're not in the right place, the bookmark will not come off, or fit back on!

Happy Spring

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper Sharon (sharonwisely).

I chose this card as my inspiration:

I focused on Sharon's:
-labels
-spring/nature images (bunny, bird, butterflies)

I changed:
-colours
-die cuts instead of stamping
-sentiment on bottom only
-white background

This was such a fun card to make - I used lots of little Essentials by Ellen stamps from various sets on one of the Mini Tags dies.

I started by cutting 9 of one of the tags, and then I stamped the little images on them. I coloured them with Copic markers then masked each one with a mask cut using the coordinating die.

I blended blue ink over the tags to make the images pop.

I used an Essential Rectangles die to cut my panel, and coloured the frame with a Copic marker to match the blue tags.

I popped up each of the tags and added some Stickles for sparkle.

I combined two sentiments from Tis the Season to make my Happy Spring sentiment.

Two Daffodil Cards featuring Pretty Pink Posh (and Blog Hop!)

click here for my 30 Days Colouring post.

Good morning! I have some more cards featuring new goodies from Pretty Pink Posh, but today it's the Ellen Hutson Design Ambassadors who are hopping (blog hop details below!)

I focused on the daffodil stamps from Spring Days.

For my first card, I masked and blended ink through 4 stripes of the Wide Stripe stencil. I stamped the daffodils so that the leaves were on the green stripe and the flowers were on the yellow. I stamped a couple of butterflies from Hedgehog Friends in the blue sky.

I used one of the Eyelet Borders edge dies on the bottom of that panel and then I popped it up over a white cardbase that had been blended with yellow ink through the Wide Stripes stencil.  I added Marigold jewels to the daffodils for sparkle and dimension. My sentiment is from Easter Eggs.

I used the daffodil window and square die for my next card, and coloured all the flowers with Copic markers. I popped the four squares up on a panel of cardstock that had been blended with Fiesta Blue ink and put the whole thing on a white cardbase. More Marigold jewels in the flower centres.
