Fixing Cardmaking Mistakes

I'm excited to be a part of a series of collaboration videos that Justine is making this month. Today, we each have a video to show you some fixes for common cardmaking mistakes.

We all make mistakes when we're creating, whether it's smudging a panel, not getting a good stamped impression, or mis-aligning things. I know we've all been there!

There are lots of ways to prevent making these mistakes, but that was not the focus of this video. I'll admit it was a little strange to not use those methods, and even stranger to sometimes make the mistake on purpose, so I could show you how to I fix it!

Everyone makes mistakes, and I think that the secret is to try to fix them so that no one but you even knows they are there. My video is below. Be sure to also check out Justine's video to see her tips and tricks!

Pink & Main 5th Birthday Hop

Good morning! I'm excited to be celebrating Pink & Main's 5th birthday by being part of a celebratory blog hop! See all the blog hop info with links and prize details below!

I made two 'bee-day' cards for the hop.

For the first card, I stamped and masked all 3 of these bees - I couldn't choose just one of these cuties! I kept my colour scheme simple because the scene was already  quite busy, and I wanted some focus for the sentiment.

I used the Happy Birthday die but I trimmed the birthday, to make B day. And then I coloured the letters yellow with Copic markers, and then added a bee-like stripe. After they were glued down, I put Stickles on the letters and on the wings, for some sparkle.

For my second card, I coloured and die cut the hive and then die cut a bunch of the tiny bees. To keep this card more clean and simple, I blended a strip of blue sky but left the rest of the panel white.

BLOG HOP INFO:

There will be FIVE randomly-chosen winners of $50 store credit each.

The winners will be chosen from comments left on posts of the blogs linked below. To qualify, you must comment on all the blogs in the hop.

Heffy Doodle Friends Blog Hop

Good morning! I'm excited to be a part of a blog hop today for Heffy Doodle! This release is already available and we're hopping to give you some inspiration with these cuties!

My first card is very literal, I made the bees into a B, for 'Bee-day', but you could use any initial to personalize your card, since the sentiment and bees work together and probably give enough 'b' coverage! LOL!

I started by drawing a B lightly with a pencil. I stamped the bees, making sure that none of them was upside down, and then I created 3 masks so that I could stamp the leaves. Then I erased the pencil, so that it didn't become 'trapped' under my Copic colouring.

I stamped the larger branch on gray cardbase to add a bit of interest.

My sentiment was stamped with embossing ink, and then embossed with white embossing powder.

My second card uses the Circles of Life stencil as my focal image, rather than as a background element. I masked a panel with a rounded mask to create a landscape. Then I blended yellow and orange ink through the stencil.

I removed the stencil and used the other half of my landscape mask to allow me to blend the 'grass'. Then I stamped the sentiment, flowers and butterfly with black ink.

Then, I had a great idea, although it was a little late in the process. I placed the landscape mask and the stencil back over the panel and used some glimmer paste over top, to add to the sparkle and shine of my glorious Easter sunrise.

Here's a video:

Blog hop details!

Prize: The winner (chosen at random) who leaves a comment on each stop on the hop will receive a £50 voucher to the Heffy Doodle store. Winners will be announced on Monday, March 18, 2019 on the Heffy Doodle Blog.

Neat & Tangled Guest Designer - Tis the Season

Good morning! I'm excited to be back with my second post as the October Guest for Neat & Tangled!

Today I've created a fun winter scene using images from 5 different stamp sets, some masking, ink-blending and Copic colouring!

I started by creating a rough 'sketch' of my card on a scrap piece of paper, by stamping the images where I wanted them - no masking, just quick layout planning. I worked out in my mind which images were in front and which were behind and numbered them, in the order I would need to stamp and mask them.

Then I had to cut out all those masks! Once I had that all finished, I stamped the images, in order and placed their masks over top.

When the scene was completely masked, I created snowdrifts with some post it tape and blue Catherine Pooler ink. Then I blended more ink over the top of the card to create a bright blue sky.

Then came the big reveal - I've been doing it for years, but it's still magic when all the masks come off!

Next was a whole lot of Copic colouring. I kept it simple - a bit of shading for dimension and a limited colour scheme. I added some details with a white gel pen and some Stickles for sparkle.

Here's a video:

There are 4 $25 gift certificates up for grabs (two winners each day). Winners will be picked randomly along the blog hop. Comments must be left by 11:59 PM PDT on 6/19/2018. Winners will be announced on the PPP blog.

Also, there's a free gift when you spend over $60 - I featured this die in my card today!

I created a pretty watercoloured frame of geraniums for my sparkly sentiment panel. Here's a video showing the process:

But I couldn't stop at just one card - here are a few more that I made with this month's new products (and some previously-released dies).

I used the glasses from School Friends to create this background!

Concord & 9th February Release - Wonderful Florals & Matching Dies

Today's my third post as a Guest Designer for Concord & 9th's February release. I've been having a ton of fun with these amazing products!

Today we're featuring Wonderful Florals and Matching Dies.

For my first card, I used the full floral stamp, but kept the card, stamping and frame monochrome in greys and silver. Then I die cut the wonderful letters out of watercolour cardstock and coloured the bottom of each one with a Zig Art & Graphic Twin Tip marker before adding water and letting the colour run up to the top.

For the second card, I stuck with the florals, and used the graphic stripe set to create a background for one of the standalone flowers. I watercoloured the flower and leaves with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. I finished the card with one of the stamped sentiments included in this versatile set.

For a more graphic look, I used the Zig Art & Graphic Twin Tip markers again, and created a circle of rainbow colours. To get the colours to blend, I used a wet brush over top of the colouring. Then I cut the 'wonderful' die from a slightly smaller white circle and popped it up over the rainbow.

Concord & 9th February Release - Birthday Stacks

This is my second post as a Guest Designer for Concord & 9th, featuring their fabulous February release.

Today, I'm featuring the Birthday Stacks Stamps and Dies and WOW! I could work with these products forever! There are so many possibilities!

I started with the candles stamp and matching die. I stamped the candles at the bottom of my panel and then created a mask out of masking paper with the die before stamping a row above. I kept going until I had all these candles on the card. I cut the top row with the die for some texture and interest and popped the panel up on a plain white card where I had stamped my sentiment.

I did some copic colouring in cool greys and yellows and added some Stickles for sparkle. You could do the exact same idea with the presents and the balloons stamps.

Next up, this celebrate edge die. I fell in love with it and I will use it a lot! Here, I cut it from a white panel and carefully coloured each letter with a copic marker. I added a strip of silver for sparkle and stamped one of the little sentiments. Quick and easy!

This set comes with solid stamps that you can use to fill in the outline shapes quickly, or you can use them on their own like I did for this card and the next. I started by stamping CELEBRATE in rainbow inks, using my MISTI and some tape to mask each letter. I then stamped my balloons with two colours each, to create dimension. There is a string stamp in the set, but can you believe I lost within about 2 minutes of opening the package?! Grrr! I hate that! After searching everywhere, I gave up and drew my strings in.  I cut the edge of the panel with the decorative edge.

OK, this is the card you make when you have 2 minutes before you're leaving for the party. Or does that not happen to you?! LOL! Cut a coloured panel and cut out the celebrate die. On a white card, stamp a bunch of the balloon-fill-in circles in bright colours. Add some glue and you're done!

Finally, although this is a birthday set, You can use it for other occasions. Here, I stamped the balloons over and over, turning them and creating a fun background. I then took the solid stamp and inked up a few with lime and aqua inks and added a die cut thanks (we're featuring these next week).

There's a lot in this post, but I really feel like I've only scratched the surface of these amazing products. I know there are 3D options you can make with them - I can't wait to give them a try!

Concord & 9th February Release - Everyday Bundle

Good morning! I'm delighted to be one of the Guest Designers for Concord & 9th's February release.

Each Friday, we will be focusing on a number of products from the release as part of the Feature Friday posts.

Today's focus is the Everyday Bundle which includes the Tintables Card pack, Everyday Greetings stamp set and Everyday Circles dies.

As you can see, I had a lot of fun with this bundle - as I started each card, an idea for the next would come to me - I finally had to stop and do some laundry! lol!

The Tintables cards are new to me and really amazing - there is a pattern on the cardstock that resists watercolour, so you can quickly create a background in whatever colours you want.

Everyday Greetings is a bunch of sentiments in a block font that will provide a graphic feel to your projects.

Everyday Circles is so much fun - you can mix and match the various dies as I did above.

Here's a quick video:

Card Concept GD - CC50 - Thank You

I am so thrilled that I've been asked to be a Guest Designer at The Card Concept this month! I will be using the Clean & Graphic style (surprise!)

Here's this week's inspiration photo:

I don't make St. Patrick's Day cards, but I was really drawn to the freshness of the green and white and the golden cookies (YUM!). These colours are perfect for a masculine card.

I used:
-Papertrey Phrase Play 7 die
-Papertrey Perfect Pairing sentiment

ATCAS80 - Red

Today, I'm thrilled to be GD at ATCAS! This card won the 'joy' challenge in December (oops, I seem to be in a bit of a 'joy' rut, maybe! lol!) and I was asked to join the DT for the current 'red' challenge.

Where's the red? Here was my CAS theory. By using neutrals for the majority of the card, you couldn't help but focus on the tiny pop of red. Right? Right?

This card makes me happy - it's very CAS but the sparkly berries make it festive in an elegant way.

I used:
MFT Hand-lettered Holiday
Avery Elle Double-pierced rectangle die
PTI Tinsel & Tags Little Sprigs
Sue Wilson 'berry' die.

Paper Smooches October Guest Designer - Part 4

Today is my final post as Paper Smooches October GD (sniff, sniff!). I've got two cards to show you.

My first one is pretty tradtional - I started by cutting a white panel as a square and then cut the bottom off using the bottom die from the Large Ornament die (I saw Nina-Marie do something similar last week). I inlaid the Merry Christmas die into that and then stamped a sentiment from Holiday Cheer.  I cut some pine sprigs from the Wreath Builder die in two colours of green and laid them onto the panel to emphasize the curves of the bottom of the white panel. Then I cut some berries from the Holly Dies (both the 3-berry cluster and a single berry to dot my 'i'). They are all coated in Christmas Red Stickles.

My second card combines Comforting Hugs (and matching dies) with sentiments from Sugar Rush and dots from Spreading Sunshine.

These bears are of the gummi persuasion - I was nervous about colouring them with Copics after stamping them with Stampin' Up ink, but there was no smudging at all!

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to Kim once again for choosing me this month - it's been so much fun having the opportunity to play along with the DT!

Paper Smooches October Guest Designer - Part 3

I'm back for my 3rd week as October Guest Designer for Paper Smooches. Have I mentioned how much fun I'm having? Only about a million times? Good!

For this card, I used the Large Ornament die. There are two pieces so you can adjust your ornament in lots of different ways. I liked the shape of the short ornament, but I wanted a little more detail, so I cut the bottom again in pink. I used the string from Holiday Lights Dies to create my loop and the leaves and berries are from Holly Dies.

I love shiny ornaments that catch and reflect the lights on the tree, so using foiled cardstock seemed like a natural choice. But as you know, it's not easy to photograph! I usually like to use natural light, but I pulled out my Foldio light tent, thinking I might have more luck.

Just for fun, here's a neat effect I got when the little LCD lights reflected on the card stock.

My second card for today uses the new Comforting Hugs set and matching dies along with a sentiment from the Holiday Cheer set. I added tiny hats from the My Peeps set. I created a background by sponging Tumbled Glass ink around a mask created from one of the Big Bloom Dies. To make it really frosty, I coated the whole panel in Stardust Stickles. This warped the panel a little, so I went with that and left it lifting a little from the edges, almost like the paper itself is getting into the hugging too. (Too corny? lol!)

STAMPlorations Birthday Blog Hop

STAMPlorations is celebrating its first birthday with a blog hop and new release! I am so thrilled to have been invited to join the party as a Guest Designer!

Here's my card. I realized at the last minute that somehow I don't have any Stamplorations sentiments (I'l be fixing that situation ASAP)! So I used my favourite flower from Eclectic Florals  two ways. I stamped each flower on a circle die cut and then flipped the stamp over, stamped off once and 'coloured' the flower in with that impression.  I used the stem in the set to create a frame. And finally, for some more interest, I stacked them all with the flower colour, but each one at different heights.

You can win Eclectic Florals set by leaving a comment here. And by visiting all the stops on the hop and leaving a comment  on each one, there's more chances to win stamps. There's over $120 worth of stamps to be won!

FOURTEEN (14) lucky hoppers randomly drawn from the designers' blogs will each win a stamp set and ONE (1) lucky hopper randomly drawn from the STAMPlorations blog will win all the stamps in the July release. You have until Wednesday, July 2, 11:55 p.m. PDT (GMT -700) to comment here and on my fellow designers' posts for a chance to win. Winners will be announced on the STAMPlorations blog on Sunday, July 6.
