So where's the snow?

Muddling through life from Austria to Wales; God, life and a small black dog

To write or not to write?

Swingle is going to be famous next  month, but that’s top secret!

I vowed that I would take a break from writing until the new year, but a new book is coming to birth, but I am fighting starting to write it until after the summer and I’m not going to rush this one, it’s going to be deeper, a real mainstream, Christian novel, AND NO HORSES… well maybe a couple.Life here in Wales is fab. We’ve just had a wonderful, hot June, the garden is looking great, just wish my geraniums would flower, I’ll start them later next year. The pond is still leaking but Dave and I have talked ourselves out of the rebuild yet again. I’ve got Elderflower wine bubbling away, and it looks like there will be more blackberries than last year, but the Elderberries still don’t look so good. We’ve had visits from family which have been such fun and are making new friends around us.

Our lovely fellowship is changing and growing in all sorts of ways as God begins moving in Mountain Ash. I still have no idea what the future will hold and what it’ll look like, he’s keeping that under wraps. We had our first evening service last week and it was a deeply relaxed spiritual, joyous time, and I came home full of peace and eagerness for the path forward.

Yet, this week for the first time I actually wanted to go back to Austria. It was a conversation at the Riding for the Disabled group, where we were having a coffee chat. This wokeness is out of hand, and I was so upset when I heard of how teaching riding has changed since I left the UK, and how the horse world is under pressure from people ignorant of working with and loving horses. I wanted to run back to Austria where I could remain ignorant of this, bury my head. But that’s not God’s plan and here I stay and I’ll have to learn to deal with it.

The wine’s ready!

P1290159Last year saw an abundance of plums and redcurrants, but not a lot if sun to make the sugar. Still, I made wine from these, plus Peach as I had so many from the farmer. January had them finishing fermenting.

And they’re ok, the Peach  and the Redcurrant needs a little longer, but the Plum to which I added more sugar to before bottling may be the wine of the year, and I made loads!

One thing I’ve learnt is to be more careful of how sweet the fruit is and add more sugar before bottling if its a bit sour- alcohol content -no probs!  Anyone for a wine tasting evening?????

Garden Time

June 28th

Beginning of June

The weather is so  extreme at the moment, with 38 degress predicted for Sunday. Inbetween times of heat we’ve had rain and more rain.  Setting back the  veggies and then pulling them forward.  One courgette I found was yellow, but more are coming.  One line of peas is flowering.  The strawberries are a disaster, the cold got the flowers and the bees didnt come in the cold.  The Kohl Rabi are getting on slowly.  Paggy was saying despite loads of blooms, he has no cherries, the cold mornings got them along with his plums.  Well at least that lets me off having to make jam this autumn!  Just hope my soft fruits come through for my planned wine making – one consolation, the Elderberries have loads of flowers.

And now!   Oh the joy of gardening!  One is nearest God in the garden.

Travel Theme: Summer

Looking down towards the Grangler Hut, Weisspriach, Lungau

This summer is going to be the best for several years, I’ve decided and that’s final! After all my time teaching riding and the summer when I worked seven days a week at Lois’s stables when he was hurt and then the last two at the Burg with all that associated stress, I’m going to be more at home.  As well as having weekends, I’ll have the Bank holidays. This means I will finally have the time to work on my garden, instead of filling it with flowers and then neglecting it.  I’ll have time to harvest my veggies and fruit and make jam. I might even have a go at some wine making if I can find the gear.  I’m putting a second picture in, wonder if that’s allowed?

June 2010

This also means I’ll have time to go walking in the mountains with Dave and friends. The Bergs are completely addictive, although I cuss and swear as I trudge up and have to take deep breaths, this year I’m fitter (but not thinner) and I cant wait to be up there in that clear air, beautiful views and the silence that wraps them. Of course it’ll also mean Kaisershmarrnn testing at the huts –there’s always one somewhere on a route.  And the camera will be with me, as I disappear for a shot, leaving Dave exasperated or talking to himself.  We just need the last of the snow to melt – which this year means some places will be inaccessible until July, never mind, I’ve got all summer!
