I bought this book right after its release, but I kept pushing it back because, having followed Matthew Perry during and after Friends, I thought I knew everything there was to know about him.

However, I clearly did not understand addiction (I don't think anyone who does not have this disease really understands it).

Matthew Perry had always been open about his struggles. He even stated at some point that he did not remember Season 2 of Friends because he was high at the time. But I thought the worst was over. I did not realise how bad it actually was.

In this memoir, Matthew Perry takes us on a journey through his life with all the ups and downs in-between, but more than that, he explains to us from the point of view of an addict how this disease can consume you and why it is easier for some people to quit than others.

As the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover, and that's the case with Matthew Perry.

I recommend this book to everyone, whether you are a fan, going through, or just want to know more about the ‘big terrible thing’. It's very enlightening.

It's an interesting summary of a life driven by the urge being high. All the money in the world couldn't safe him from his inner demons. Countless rehabs, millions of dollars to get sober. Loved him acting, who would have thought he was such a struggling human being. Sad to read he was falling back to drugs after all his attempts to be drug free and living a normal life.

For everyone who wants to edu themselves on addiction. You will finish with a clear understanding of your limits when dealing with an addict.

Matthew Perry has left a legacy here that will be a enormous tool for those suffering from addiction and for those dealing with a friend or family member.

It's a great read written by someone who definitely appreciates the art of writing. MP set up his memoir like a theater play, short paragraph, variety of topics.

It was tough reading it knowing he didn't survive his addiction. It stirred up a lot of emotions. But also a pleasure to read.

Heartbreaking book to read after his death. I recommend the audiobook version as well. He reads it. I read it before and after his death. Hit me differently…

It is one of the best books to read to understand what happens behind addiction, and find a way to see the human behind.

É claro que Matt é mais uma pessoa privilegiada nesse mundo e que não teve condições de levar uma vida plena, muitos erros e acertos, muitos problemas que poderiam ser evitados mas a vida é assim. Apesar de tantos erros, é uma biografia a ser lida e analisada pois tem muito a nos ensinar. Devemos aprender com os erros dos outros, principalmente dos que têm a coragem de contar detalhes de sua vida com o intuito de ajudar outras pessoas.
