Cranky and Cold

This was a charming little ivy-covered cottage I found recently on Pinterest. I am so conflicted by pins and pinners and the entire concept of Pinterest lately. Why? Because so many pins (even mine) go nowhere or not to the original source. I do not want to hop through more than one hoop to get where I'm going. All these bloggers who are gathering and creating pretty little graphics, but the work is not their own and so what is the point beyond boosting their visits? Yes, I'm growing cranky up here where it is cold (40sF) and sodden.

So this is the photo spoken of. If you like it, please do not pin it from here. Go to *the source given.* I was so charmed by this, but this morning, it's freaking me out. I have a bad enough time mowing the yard without having to mow my house, too! And here's another Pinterest thing that has my knickers in a knot: Have you noticed that many pins are picked for you? What?! I do not want Pinterest to suddenly start selecting the pins I am to choose from. At one point, nearly 50% of the page were picked for me offerings. Grrrr.... This is a picture story of how I handled it.

In other news, I did add the paintings from Paint Nite to my bedroom wall. 

Yes, I desperately need to paint the room. Sigh. So much to do. So little time. So little energy. I'll be puttering around up there again today as upstairs is warmer than down.  (That string hanging straight down is my light pull. Couldn't figure it out myself for a minute.)

My poor Texas friends, I do apologize for being cranky and cold this morning. We have nothing going on like you have going on. We're praying for you!

Feels Like Autumn

                                      

The air is chilly. It's going to rain. It will not be a perfect autumn day out of doors, but it will be as perfect as I can create indoors.

This little photo to the left represents hours spent at Pinterest perusing other gals' Autumn or Fall Boards. I was going to provide a link to each of them and then realized that these are the sorts of things we did before Pinterest, but not so much now. Instead, I created an Autumn Board of my own using so many of my friends' pins. What delights you have been gathering! There's enough inspiration there to last for years.

Some weeks ago now, I promised John a batch of cookies. I don't know about you, but I do not like baking cookies. They take so long to bake with all those 10–12 minute interruptions. ☺ He doubtingly asked when. I said that it would have to get much colder.  Now he's been watching for frost warnings like crazy. Just last night, as I was reading the final pages of *A Fine Romance, he said, "It's going to be 28° tonight."

I slapped my book shut and started up from the chair. Those were action words and I had some gathering of plant covers to do. He started to laugh and then had to confess that he was lying just to get some cookies. What a scamp! I think he wanted to know if I could still move. I've had my nose in one book or another for days.

*Speaking of A Fine Romance, I linked to two blogs at the end of my post on Branch and Hedgerows where the blessed gals went to book signings, if you'd be interested. Both gals had their photos taken with Susan and one even found Joe in the parking lot in that beautiful van of theirs. He seems like such a good sport!

I'd just like to add that finishing the book may have given me the same sort of feeling that Susan and Joe had about leaving England behind. I'll be leaving it handy by so that I can dip back in again and enjoy whatever page I land on. It's that kind of a book.

Now if I were to bake John some cookies today, what would you suggest?

Once in a Blue Moon

There are a few things that I would like to chat about today. Perhaps you have an opinion or suggestion for me that I can put to work! My blogging friends always have such good advice.

First, though, here are three shots of the moon taken over the past few days. That Blue Moon is already down to 93% as of last night so looks something like an egg wobbling on a counter.

Since getting the smaller Nikon and putting the Canon aside, moon shots have been a challenge. The first photo (on the left) was set on auto; the middle photo followed Lovella's instructions provided *here* and gave me a little better result; the final one followed Mr. Cottage Days advice via Donna, which was this: M setting, f16, ISO 100, 1/100. I also used a tripod and the timer for the final two shots.

For the harvest moon — did I say Harvest Moon?! I have an AAB [arbitrary autumn block] on this blog for another seven days — I'm going back to the Canon and try these settings. That gives me until September 18 or 19 or somewhere in there to practice. You know what this means, Dears; you're going to have to watch me practice.

Second topic of the morning...Pinning Protocol on Pinterest. Gee. That would have made a great title all on its own. I do love alliteration. Anyway, this is what I see as a potential problem with Pinning on Pinterest — told ya!

Let me set this up: I see a  pin worthy item. I pin the item and make sure that the pin works and is properly described. Then I notice that the blogger has already pinned her own pin worthy item. (I have done this myself so that's not the question.) The question is this: When I see that the blogger has already pinned the item, should I delete the pin I have placed and then re-pin from the blogger's pin or should I just leave it be? Tell me what you think, if you haven't already. I have been having an ongoing discussion behind the scenes with a few friends.

Are there rules on Pinterest? Beyond *these*?

Pinteresting

Today, I'm on another mission out of the house so I'll keep this post simple. (I have a number of things to share with you and ordinarily I'd share them all. I may be the queen of mismatched topics.) 

Pinterest—there—I've said the word! When Pinterest and pinning first came on the scene, I was a scoffer: One more thing to muddy the waters and make blogging complicated I thought. I may have come to the party late and I may even have come kicking, but I am here now and would love to officially invite you to see my humble boards and what interests me *here.*

I know precious little about Pinterest etiquette, other than to know that there are rules, so please enlighten me.  Do you have some pet peeves or tips where pinning is concerned? 

My sidebar permission notice has changed considerably to reflect my new interest. This is my current take on it: Any photo that may be of interest may be pinned with the exception of family photos. I wouldn't want to find my grandsons' photos on Pinterest nor any other family member, including myself. 

Then how do I invite you to visit my Pinterest boards in my sidebar? I found the logo and I found where they do not wish any changes made. The logo doesn't fit my decor so I'm doing something a little different. Hope that that doesn't break a rule. I notice that many of you do something a little different, too. I'll just go with it. ☺

So talk to me. How much time do you spend on Pinterest? Have you tried some truly awful things? (Ahem...a brownie in a mug for example.) Please share.
