Seven Things Meme

Laura tagged me even though she knows full well that I don't accept tags or awards. This post is going to prove that, when I am struggling to find blog fodder, I, too, find memes valuable. Thank you, Laura.

Laura's Meme is to write Seven Things About Myself. How convenient! I know myself so well. Still, it's too much for me to do without help so I'm also resorting to some prompts that I've read in Blogdom.

1. What has changed the most since you were a teenager? So much has changed: fashions, foods, recreation, technology, movies, television programs, even politics. The church has changed. Mores have evolved and not for the better in my opinion. Other than medical advancements and technological advancements, I'm challenged to think of any of the changes as an improvement.

2. What always makes you laugh? Any time someone else is laughing, I'm pretty much willing to join in. I really love to hear children laughing and babies laughing definitely makes me laugh. Have you seen any videos of laughing babies? You try watching one and see!

3. List those favorite things or collections you treasured growing up. Loved collecting rocks, specifically skipping rocks. It is not possible to have too many of those. I also collected mica and tiny bits of garnet.

~Alice and Not Toto~
~ Edited to Add: Not Dorothy Either  ;} ~

I just found Alice last week while going through some packed boxes. The kind one is supposed to give away if one hasn't missed anything after a year. Would you believe that I started to miss Alice? She was a birthday present in my ninth year. She came with an Alice in Wonderland wristwatch. Somewhere along the way she found Not Toto there and lost her hand.

4. Name five things under your kitchen sink. The garbage can, Barkeeper's Friend, bleach, plant food, and a broken plant mister.

5. Favorite type of cheese?  Sharp Cheddar

6. What is your earliest memory, and why does it stand out in your mind? The earliest memory is of riding in the car and crossing a large bridge. I had a bottle of chocolate milk to drink and a doughnut to eat. I was perfectly content.

7. If you could rid the earth of one thing what would it be? Evil. Yes, that pretty much covers it.

How about you? What one thing would you rid the world of?

Following Brenda's Prompts

I found these prompts at Brenda's It's A Beautiful Life and thought they'd be fun to try.

1. I never thought... I'd remarry after sixteen years of being single. It's been one of the best choices I've ever made. Never thought I'd blog either.

2. I don't really enjoy... terribly warm days. Terribly warm days are any over 80°F.

3. I like to eat... lots of things. Currently, I'm on a tortilla chip kick.

4. I cannot... enjoy discussing politics with those of the opposite persuasion.

5. I have... been looking for more help from several agencies on aging. It looks pretty bleak just now, but we will soon have a personal care assistant to help with Nan for two hours a week. Woo hoo!

6. I do not like... teenagers. I didn't like them when I was one. I didn't like raising them. I didn't enjoy teaching them. They really are in a challenging stage of life. That's why I'm in total awe of those who relate well to teenagers. God bless them!

7. I'm going to... go to Wal*Mart today. And I will enjoy every precious second of it and milk it for all it's worth.

8. A book I'm enjoying these days is... Laura Bush's memoir Spoken from the Heart.
(Why, yes, that is a diet soda with the tortilla chips.)

9. Some advice I'm going to take is ... {chill}. Just }}chill{{. Gonna allow a few things to go in one ear and directly out the other. Gonna shake things off like water from a duck. ;>

10. I haven't figured out... how to run the tv yet. The antenna is particularly fussy. Guess that after Evan came in second on Dancing With the S*tars, I won't be watching tv this summer so it won't matter. Now don't hate me, but Evan exudes such charm and grace whereas the winner is exuberant and joyful, but somewhat lacking in the classic good manners I love (but don't myself have). She sure can dance though, but I thought Evan was a better dancer as well.

♪ Mi Mi Mi Mi ♪ and a Winner!

Even though I don't give or discuss awards, I still enjoy a game of tag every now and then. That's because there are times when my mind is empty...oh no you don't...don't even go there! Okay, where was I? Oh, yes, Lea tagged me with the "Ten Things About Me" meme and I need a topic for today. How perfectly serendipitous! So indulge me while I sing ♪ mi mi mi mi ♪ and try to tell you something new.

1. I wash my dishes in bleach water. (One must be careful as bleach and soap can be a toxic combination. Just don't use a soap with phosphates. I can safely use Palmolive and bleach. I think. Don't do as I do. Do your own research. I use a teaspoon of bleach to a gallon of water or a TBS for the entire dish bucket. Why? I'm blaming my Aunt Ess for this one! She got me started about 32 years ago and I've been at it ever since. Plus, I may have OCD.)

2. If yellow didn't exist in this world, my favorite color would be... I'm sure you can guess!

3. Last Saturday morning I ordered two books by Elizabeth Goudge from the interlibrary loan program. I've given up on finding them at a flea market. So it'll be The Bird in the Tree and Pilgrim's Inn by week's end. Maybe.

4. As of Tuesday last week, I am without an excuse to finish writing my own book. The missing chapters have been found and John has read them and given them a good report. Well, he would have to, I suppose. But he did sit right down to read them and did so until finishing and gave me this interesting compliment: "It kept my interest." Okie dokie then!

5. One of my secret wishes is to hire some Merry Maids. I haven't been able to give the upstairs, basement or garage the attention that they deserve since Nan arrived.

6. Right behind the Merry Maids, comes a landscaper. John is way too busy at "The Pondersosa" to give our little yard much attention. I want the lawn re-seeded and the garden made larger, and some raised beds built. No time for any of that either.

7. Both of my children have applied for better-paying jobs. I'm praying a lot.

8. I hate to sweat. I could not be like Judy and all you gals who enjoy a mountain climb. Despise climbing, but love to see the views. Yup, I'm one of those — I want to enjoy the reward without doing the work.

9. I've been missing A LOT of my blogging buddies lately. Speaking of which, whatever happened to Kari and Kijsa? I hope that they're busy writing a book.

10. Can you believe that I've made it to ten? Hey! Wake up! I'm getting to the best part: The Winner of the Giveaway is Donna at Cottage Days and Journeys. Congrats! I'm eager to see this tote "in person." One thing's sure, Donna will take an excellent picture of it.

As you know, I don't tag folks these days, but if your brain is ever empty, you can't go wrong with a good meme and I'll certainly allow you the use of this one.

Enjoy your Monday...

Seven Facts

Ages ago...and I do mean ages, Margie at Margie's Crafts (aka Margie Loves Wool) tagged me with the Seven Facts Meme. I told her that I'd return to it one day and this is the day six months later.

So here goes...

1. I procrastinate. (Oh stop! ;> )

2. My hair hasn't been this long since I was in college and I loathe it. I seriously considered chopping it off myself, but am reconsidering now that I see what I did to my poor Nan's hair Sunday morning. Good thing her eyesight isn't what it once was. Suffice it to say that she complained of being cold all day.

3. Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber is my current read. I may not finish it.

4. Baked Tina's Upside Down Pineapple Cake this weekend sorta; didn't have the proper ingredients so substituted spice cake and pears.

5. Shoveling isn't my favorite thing so John does most of it. He's doing it now.

6. Found myself staring at my hands a few days ago. They looked older than I ever remember.

7. Love the Google art that commemorates a special day. It's the only way that I remembered that today is Martin Luther King Day.

Although I no longer tag anyone, please feel free to do this if you'd like and let me know so that I can read yours!

Come back tomorrow and I'll share a long overdue (September 8th overdue) thank you for a giveaway win from Colleen at Main Street Memories.
