India’s fruit and vegetable imports rise as US gains ground and China loses share

India’s fruit and vegetable import bill has more than doubled in a decade, but the bigger story is the changing supplier mix. The US has become the largest exporter to India, while China has lost more than half its share and Pakistan has dropped out entirely.

Despite the import surge, India remains a net exporter of fruits and vegetables. Official data cited by The Hindu BusinessLine shows exports have also grown steadily, signalling a more integrated but increasingly competitive agri-trade market.
