What is Orthogonal?

Orthogonal is an API layer for AI builders that routes agent requests through one endpoint so teams can call verified third-party services without stitching together separate vendor accounts, SDKs, or dashboards. It offers One key, Pay per request, Verified providers, and a catalog spanning Google Search, LinkedIn, Slack, and Gmail. Customers and builders like MouseCat, Hobbes, Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex use it in production workflows.

What it actually does

Orthogonal is a gateway, not a data source: it sits between your agent and 68+ third-party APIs (as of August 2026, counted from its live /discover catalog), normalizing auth and request/response shape so you call orth.run({api: "apollo", path: "/v1/people/search"}) instead of managing 68 separate API keys, billing relationships, and rate limits. Coverage skews heavily toward go-to-market data — company/people enrichment (Apollo, People Data Labs, Coresignal, Crustdata), web search and scraping (Serper, Linkup, Notte, ScrapeGraphAI, Olostep), and contact-finding (Tomba, ContactOut) — plus smaller categories like identity/KYC (Didit), weather (Precip), and inference (Baseten). Every endpoint is priced individually and shown on its listing page before you call it (e.g. Apollo's org-enrich endpoint is $0.01/call, bulk enrichment $0.05/call, verified live 2026-08-27).

Pricing and how billing actually works

Pure pay-per-call, no subscription tiers: $0 to start, $10 in free credits, then top up credits (or enable auto top-up) and each API call deducts from balance at the price shown on that endpoint's page. Enterprise tier is 'custom credit packages + dedicated support,' contact sales. Three payment rails: credits (cards/bank), x402 (onchain USDC micropayments), and MPP (Machine Payments Protocol, a Tempo/Stripe co-authored HTTP-402 standard Orthogonal added in June 2026 letting agents pay per-call with a wallet instead of an API key — stablecoins, cards via Stripe, or Bitcoin via Lightning). The per-call price you see already includes whatever markup Orthogonal takes; the Terms of Service note fees are 'pricing set by the underlying API provider, plus any applicable Orthogonal platform fees' but the two aren't broken out separately anywhere we could find — you see one all-in number per endpoint, not a base price plus a visible markup.

Company and funding

Founded by Christian Pickett (ex-Coinbase, ex-Vercel) and Bera Sogut (ex-Google, ex-Amazon Robotics), who met at McGill. Y Combinator Winter 2026 batch, 2-person team per YC's own listing. Raised $4.3M seed in June 2026 led by Pantera Capital, with Y Combinator, Pioneer Fund, Decasonic, Blast, Outbound, and Surreal participating. Launched publicly on Product Hunt/YC Launch in January 2026 — the company is roughly seven months old at time of writing.

SDK and CLI: real, published, low adoption so far

The TypeScript SDK (@orth/sdk, MIT licensed, npm) is at v0.5.1 and has shipped six releases since January 2026; the CLI (@orth/cli, MIT, npm) is at v0.2.34 with far more frequent releases (34 versions) but 11 open issues on its GitHub repo as of this check. Both are genuinely maintained — last pushed to GitHub within the past few weeks — but adoption is small: @orth/sdk had 1,296 npm downloads and @orth/cli had 473 downloads in the 30 days ending 2026-08-25. The SDK's GitHub repo has 6 stars, the CLI's has 2. This is a young, low-traffic developer tool, not an established one.

What's not established

No G2, Capterra, or Trustpilot listing found as of 2026-08-27 — there is no independent review base yet, which is normal for a seven-month-old company but means a buyer has only vendor testimonials (five named quotes on the homepage, from customers including Nexio, Hobbes, and MouseCat, all unverified beyond the names given) to go on. We could not find independent press coverage beyond funding-announcement pickups (Pulse2, TheStreet, dailyaibrief) that reprint the same press release; none of these appear to be hands-on product reviews.
