This was one of the key messages from DNV’s recent Brazil workshop held as part of the UIC - International union of railways #UICrail’s RERA-CYBER project - a global initiative supporting railway operators in strengthening cybersecurity resilience across increasingly connected and digital rail networks. DNV is proud to support UIC in developing practical guidance for implementing Cybersecurity Management Systems (CSMS) across the railway sector, bringing together our expertise in railway safety, assurance and cybersecurity. The workshop brought the discussion to life through real operator perspectives from Brazil, exploring what cybersecurity means in practice, from security by design to stronger collaboration between Engineering and IT. Valuable contributions from Motiva, Brazil’s largest infrastructure operator, and Vale, Brazil’s largest freight rail operator, highlighted the momentum already building in the market. Their expertise, leadership, and engagement helped foster an important industry conversation on strengthening cyber resilience across rail operations. As the cybersecurity risk landscape continues to evolve, one thing is clear: collaboration across the rail ecosystem will be essential to building safer, more secure and more resilient systems.
