5 months

Sweet Baby Girl, at 5 months:

• you are 15 lbs 4 oz
• you are getting more and more curious about the world around you. This has made feeding you a challenge unless we’re in a quiet room. You are constantly turning your head to find out where sounds are coming from.
• you’re grasping skills are improving. You’ve recently discovered that you can put your own binky back in your mouth and always seem so proud when you get it.
• you love splashing your feet in the tub and just started sucking on the washcloth. You get quite upset at me when bath time is done and I have to take it away.
• anything you can get your hands on goes straight to your mouth. Your favorite: PAPER.
• some of your favorite toys right now are: soft plastic blocks, your hair brush, your baby doll and teddy bear
• you get giggly right before bed and you are so much fun that we hesitate to put you down for the night
• you love to twirl, swing, and dance with Mommy and Daddy
• you’re tickly under your arms and on your neck. But we rarely get a good giggle unless you’re tired

 

• you’re our rolly polly bug. You’re a champ at rolling from your stomach to back and we’ve seen you roll from your back to stomach a couple times
• new BLONDE hairs are coming in. We think you might be a blondey like your momma was as a child
• you are getting better at sitting up but get too excited or curious so you still need some help
• you are an awesome sleeper! You sleep around 8-9 hours at night. And the day after you hit 5 months you stopped waking up around 3am for me to put your binky back in. yeah!
• we have learned that anything on the table, according to you, is fair game, which has made eating-out a new experience
• you love reading books and going on walks
• you are growing up so much, Mommy now holds you on her hip so you can look around.

This was the first time we’d seen you roll over from your back (sort of).

Today she couldn’t decide which Binky to have. Why should a girl have to choose?!

stop and smell the roses

Well, we didn’t actually stop to smell any roses on our visit to the Botanical Gardens. But we did see a lot of other beautiful plants to gaze upon. It was a free day so we, and lots of other people, saw one of the best botanical gardens we’ve been to. It was really big, and had a huge variety of plants and sculptures.  

I sure do love this beautiful world we live in!

Pool Babe

Lily had her first experience with swimming this weekend at our ward party. She wasn’t too sure about that really big, cold bath tub. But she didn’t cry either. So I guess it was a success.

She needed some reassuring motivation from Mommy before jumping in. 

OK I think she’s ready now.

 

She didn’t want to take her eyes off the water no matter how much Matt tried to get her to look at the camera. And don’t mind the awesome hair she’s sportin’! We had to put some sunblock on her head since her hair is thinning, poor girl.

She was kicking her feet like a natural-born fish.

We had to try a little sun-bathing before getting out.

Getting some warm snuggle-time with Daddy.

Judging by how well she did, I think some more pool trips are in the near future.

…pass the Mod Podge please…

I’ve been bit by the crafting bug! My first project was mod podging paper on some letters for Lily’s room. Too bad she doesn’t really have a room that they can go in yet, someday.

I liked mod podge so much I decided to try something a little more difficult. I got the idea from a fellow blogger and actually found the same fabric she used from Hobby Lobby but chose to use this fabric instead. The shoes I got for $7 at Walmart. The mod podge and fabric made the shoes a little tighter so I added some felt to the heels. Hopefully they won’t hurt my feet. But at least I’ll look cute in them, right?!

My next mod podge craft is a photo frame, but I haven’t decided if I’m going to use paper or fabric.

Also, I’m so excited that I have a working sewing machine again. My old Singer machine that my mother-in-law gave me bit the dust last December. Ever since then I’ve come across so many projects that I want to do but most of them require a sewing machine. So last week Matt convinced me to go ahead and get this machine.

I’m so glad I did. I LOVE IT! This machine makes sewing so easy, no more turning the wheel to get the machine going. And I love all the stitches, so fun!

I have finally started the finishing touches on a project YEARS in the making. I think I started this quilt the summer before we left for Virginia and it has taken me this long to finally start piecing it together. I’m excited to be done so I can move onto another sewing project.

Happy Birthday America

We had a fantastic 4th of July weekend exploring some new things in Denver. To kick the weekend off on Friday we went to a free factory tour of Hammond’s Candies. If you know my husband then you know how much he loves candy and this was first on our to-do list. We’ve come to realize you can’t properly celebrate anything without a little sugar in your system :)

It was neat to see them making candy-canes. They start with a really BIG chunk of candy and then the candy-maker twists and stretches it until it’s the right size.

       

 

Sophie loved every minute of the experience, especially getting a free piece of candy at the end.

Lily is following in her Daddy’s footsteps and has already discovered she has a sweet tooth.

 

Saturday we went to the Lakeside on Parade. They had tons of fun things for the kids like making bracelets, make a hat, face painting, and lots of blow-up toys. But we didn’t end up doing any of that. For us, it was all about the food, as usual. We enjoyed some food that reminded us of our east coast days – funnel cakes and southern style pulled pork sandwiches (with coleslaw).  We also watched a bird show in anticipation of show coming up after it. What we thought we were going to see was a dog trick show – dogs doing flips, catching frisbees, jumping really high, you know. What we actually saw was quite different, a dog dancing show – ladies dancing with their dogs. We were pretty sad when we realized there wouldn’t be any frisbee catching. But the fireworks were great and ended the night wonderfully.   

We sure LOVE being able to spend the holidays with our family again!

On Sunday we had Dan and Jessica over for dinner. I made yummy shells and cheese (made me think of you Kimberly)

Monday we went the the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. It was HOT but a lot of fun. We got to see some really interesting and amazing art. My favorite was all the photographers (surprise, I know) and Matt’s favorite were all the ceramics.

The guys had their picture taken with this funny guy. This is their “sexy pose”.

We had lunch at a really good crepes cafe.

Lily was a trooper the whole time even though she was hot and sweaty. We sure love her!
