Würstchen
These forks were used everyday when I was a little girl in Frankfurt a/M. Tonight, I needed comfort food. Frankfurter Würstchen and good, good German mustard from Düsseldorf.
The heat, even after sunset, is still oppressive. Keeping the primary fermenter below 68 degrees has been a task.
I look out the window and see the Buick panting out there on the street. A bit of reading, and then lights out! What an exhausting day. More of the same predicted for tomorrow. The dog days of summer are upon us, and the living's not easy.

The fork looks awfully familiar, as does the food!
Have heard of your extreme heatwave. Why can't we just have nice comfortable summers no hotter than mid 20's (C) and with just light rains occasionally at night? Too much rain here this summer...
Keep cool, R, it will pass....
Never judge a sausage by what it's wearing. Some German würstchen have a discouragingly artificial appearance, as these do, (bratwurst even more so) yet taste like heaven. Is there a wider conclusion to be drawn about Germany here? That Germans are not amenable to the process known in Britain at least as "tarting up"? I hope I haven't trod on your doigts de pied with this.
Ach, ja! Würstchen mit stark senf. Ja Ja.
I'm with you, Marja-Leena. Time for some nice cool Riesling.
BB! These Würstchen are from a New Jersey lad whose German grandfather handed him down a superb recipe (no MSG and traditional spices in a natural casing). Delicious! Of course Germans tart up! Well, I can only speak for German-Americans ... you'll never believe what I have purchase for my upcoming holiday at the end of August. But I'll be looking me best, let me tell you. There may be blog post in the future ... a blog post filled with tartness.
Oh ja, FF! Senf und Lager!!
Oh, those Würstchen and the mustard look so delicious! Your photo of them brings back such nice memories of my years in Norddeutschland and the Volksfest each summer. Danke!
I hope your a/c has now been fixed and that tomorrow will be a much cooler and very relaxing day for you. Have a great weekend, Rouchswalwe.
Zaunkönigen! You have been on my mind. Yes, the A/C is back. And I feel for all here who do not have air-conditioning. I thought I was a tough cookie after 5 summers spent in southern Japan, but a good night's sleep was nigh impossible. Music helped, I found. The cat and I are happy tonight, and we are looking forward to the weekend. Friends are visiting and there are two bottles of white wine chilling in the fridge. A Rheingau (Trocken Riesling) and an off-dry Sardinian. Wishing you a wonderful weekend, too!
Oh I do like sausages, almost all sausages, including franks. Harder to come by here where the Alsace variety is favoured, but not unknown. I even bought and enjoyed some boudin noir the other day.
Glad you and puss are cool again!
Oh! Now a smoked blood sausage would thrill me, I must say!
