Some weeks ago, I was watching a Hong Kong action flick. The heroine came to a nasty end because, in her own words as she lay in her lover's arms breathing her last, "I should not have doubted you." I waited in vain for the hero to say to his love, "I should not have given you reason to doubt me."
Ah, sweet Fidelio, who had a heavy heart and yet was able to sing so beautifully:

These dudes had moments when they were flying with cleavers in their hands. All good summer fun, and the villain got his just desserts in the end.
That was harder; needed four or five visits to the Wörterbuch but, switching to my larger competence, Il vallait le voyage. When I said Fidelio was a mish-mash I was referring to the plot. Revolvers and all, slightly ridiculous. But the music and the sentiments are moving.
Hong Kong actioners! I wanted to pin a putty medal on your jacket but, alas, the online dicker let me down: Leider haben wir in unserem Englisch-Deutsch-Wörterbuch keine Übersetzung für 'eclectic' gefunden. A shocking admission given it's such a humdrum, everyday word. Je plaisante! Je plaisante!
I keyed in eclectic to www.leo.org and it brought back some nice choices. When I put Je plaisante! in, I found Madame Je-sais-tout. What fun!
So what's a "putty medal" then, BB?
I'll stop this French transmigration; it's me that needs to learn German, not you being compelled to learn French. However, I won't stop chucking in five-dollar words. You've established such a brilliant track record with English I'm determined to overload you to bursting point. I'm not absolutely sure I'm right about "putty medal" but I think it means a small recognition of a small achievement.
