A few months back I started playing Words with Friends on Facebook. Being the scrabble buff that I am, and also being the highly competitive person I am, this seemed to be the perfect new time passing companion. Now, who the hell saw the train coming straight at them? Words with Friends is indeed a fun game, it entices you, lures you in, and becomes a vicious evil time sucker. It has taken my time away from other important things like family (and my partner would argue, housework) and the drive and addiction makes it almost impossible to stop. “Just one more move before bed… I just have to play all these moves I need to play, then when the move box it is empty I will feel complete and whole for the night and can rest and relax.” So simple, right?
Wrong! Because my cousin and my friend in Australia are on and they are trying to clear out their “Your Move” boxes too. They are frantically cleaning out their boxes and I am frantically countering their cleaning with an emptying of my own. “Must eliminate all of the moves that are my responsibility and take all my turns before I can head to bed.” It continues to escalate until, 45 minutes later, my cousin beats the crap out of me and I have no more moves to make…. until a little screen pops up saying, “X has beat you, rematch?”
I have had it with Words with Friends. I need to have real words with real people. So my resolution for today, 399 days ’til 40, is to stop playing Words with Friends….. as soon as I finish my current moves.
With a triple word score~
