[Livre] Le Guide Galactique / H2G2, tome 5 : Globalement inoffensive de Douglas Adams
Mar. 9th, 2026 12:12 pm

Not surprised by this, considering horror stories I heard from female animators
Mar. 8th, 2026 11:51 pmBasically, the cracks started to show with Brave:
Emma Coats, a former Pixar story artist who worked on Brave, told BuzzFeed that Brenda would advocate for those who were often talked over in meetings. “[She] would quiet the room and be like, ‘Emma, you started to say something,’” helping Coats to realize that her ideas were worthwhile and reminding others to listen. Coats eventually left Pixar, and animation all together, because of how disheartened she was about what happened to Brenda in 2010.
“To me, she could’ve behaved exactly the way any of the male directors behaved, but it would have been taken differently,” Coats told reporter Ariane Lange. “Without Brenda…there’s nobody I can look up to… Imitating the guys isn’t gonna give me the same results as it gives them… When she was removed from her project, I felt kind of lost,” she said. “I can’t see why what happened to her wouldn’t happen to me,” Coats concluded.
Because Brenda Chapman treated her female colleagues with respect instead of telling them to suck it up and take abuse from the men, Pixar got butthurt and fired her.
Between this and Pete Docter kissing the asses of homophobic parents and completely neutering one of their movies as a result, I'm calling for the complete dismantlement of Pixar. The sexism, homophobia, and racism that were their guidelines should consume them alive as they scream and beg for mercy, only to have their pleas ignored... you know, just like how they treated those they considered below them.
"Weh weh Pixar's been going downhill since Lasseter left!" Reminder that Lasseter directed Cars 2 and that his solo ventures since being kicked out of Pixar have been utter flops and rightfully so.
MORE SANIC!
Mar. 8th, 2026 10:40 pmI also watched the final story for Sonic Adventure 2. Lord knows when I'm actually going to get around to finishing it properly, haha. I fear I'm not in the biggest mood to play video games right now, so for a while I'm probably just going to be watching the cut-scenes and/or playthroughs of the games. I feel weird doing this, even though I'm intimately familiar with watching others play video games instead of doing it myself (cough cough FNaF cough cough). I guess I'm scared of feeling like a fake fan...? Since so much of the Sonic community is about playing the games themselves, as opposed to other game series I'm into/that are popular on the internet. I really shouldn't worry, though, since it's not like I haven't played ANY Sonic game. I literally beat Sonic 2! And nearly beat Sonic Adventure 2! That's gotta count for something, right...?
There's also the fact I want to "speed run" the games and everything that happens since I'm itching to create, but I generally dislike creating things (especially fanfiction) until I know every crack and crevice of the canon material. I've ignored this rule for the past couple of years, but I'd like to bring it back. And I super gotta stop engaging with fan content, too! Not until I'm ready!!
That's about all for my Sonic updates. I need to get back to watching Sonic X, it's been a hot minute since I watched an episode. Oh! And I started reading the IDW comics :) I'm pretty sure it's post-Forces, and it would be really great if my hold on the game actually cAME THROUGH-

Honestly the "Drink" prompt did not come to me because of St. Patrick's day but in the fact that I really wanted a female character as the prompt image in honor of Women's month/day, but then it kinda just felt right using the prompt with both communities especially when I saw that image of Emma. I didn't think through the Monthly Character prompts, otherwise I'd have done female characters there as well.
In other news,
So it's been awhile since I posted anything directly to here, I apologize for that, but February has oddly been busy? Mostly with work but I also wrote a lot more last month (8 fics/drabbles) which I'm so proud of. I also did something to my right foot (not quite sure if it's my ankle, it feels more like the top of my foot) so I've been dealing with that pain off and on since mid-February. Most of the time I forget about it because my full-time job is mostly a sit down job (and it only vaguely hurt while sitting), and I haven't had a lot of scheduled retail shifts last couple weeks (thankfully for my mental health, horrible for my bank account), but I do have to get up and move around at my full-time job - sometimes a lot so that's when it mostly hits me. I did rest it a lot when I got home from work as well and I rested a lot this weekend (although I did get some cleaning done), so I didn't spend a lot of time online thus my oblivious to the world becoming on fire (I listen to audiobooks at work, and usually on the way to & from work, rarely do I put on the radio and when I did nothing mentioned anything at all - all I noticed was the gas prices shot the fuck up and I'm like why? Found out last night. Yeah. Fuck. The world is on fire. Again/Still depending on your viewpoint.)
ANYWAY due to my offline time, my newest obsession:
the Monsterverse (aka Godzilla 2014 & Kong: Skull Island shared universe along with the TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters). Caught the trailer for Monarch on Prime and I was like sign me the fuck up. I enjoyed every second of it.
Look I've loved Godzilla since I watched Godzilla (1998) and the animated series based on the film - I know most people shit on that movie but I enjoy it. And it satisfied the need for more dinosaur-type stuff I wanted back when I was a kid and in love with the Jurassic Park trilogy (haha, still am). I think the animated series of Godzilla also kind of synched it for me (I have the DVD set for it) and it's still pretty good - I want to rewatch again thanks to Monarch (they share some similarities that probably only I can see and enjoy but I'll take it). I also really enjoyed Godzilla (2014) film, which people also kinda dislike? I think or at least have mixed feelings about? I enjoyed all the sequels as well, and I appreciated what they were as monster movies, but I think Monarch show really kinda synched my love for the universe. I kinda wish I could have showed the show and the other newer movies to my Nana, she loved the original Godzilla stuff and would watch those, I'd love to know what she'd think of the show. I haven't seen those since I was a little kid and I don't remember actually enjoying them? Maybe it was the graphics, maybe it just didn't hold my attention - not quite sure (might try again). Anyway, as much as I loved Aaron Taylor-Johnson & Elizabeth Olsen in Godzilla (2014), I didn't really go looking for fanfiction or other fanworks (maybe gifs on Tumblr) until Monarch. The cast is just so good, and the characters! Ugh, I love all of them and I ship like everyone (as you can see what I've iconed so far). And the fact that they have Kurt & Wyatt Russell playing the same characters but at different points of time - BRILLIANT. I think my favorite characters are probably the "core" main characters: Cate Randa, Corah "May Olowe-Hewitt" Mateo, Kentaro Randa, Keiko Miura, Bill Randa (did not expect to like that character after Kong: Skull Island!) and obviously Lee Shaw.
Also I obviously noticed back when they did Kong: Skull Island, but a lot of Marvel/MCU actors/actresses appeared in the Monsterverse and all it does is making me want them to do a Godzilla/Marvel crossover movie. They won't do it, but there is at least I think a Godzilla/Marvel comics series I think.
It's a small fandom, so there's that... but at least it exists. Anyway, let me know if you like any of the movies or like Monarch! I'd love to hear what you think or who you ship :)
this take has absolutely no real-world implications but annoys me greatly and profoundly

Mar. 8th, 2026 08:52 amBut I've done updates on the Lemonade Cafe, both website and at
I'm still working through my inbox and found a comment from 2022 talking about The Mangar and getting back to it and I did! I finally got back to The Mangar! I went to mention this and ah, the entry is gone. ^^;; This will probably be the case more and more often as I get back to the truly ancient messages. Alas. (After a point I will also find the people and entire sites gone, which will be far more complicated.)
I suppose at some point I will claim true comment amnesty. ^^;;
Media Roundup, Accidental Advent All-in-One Again
Mar. 8th, 2026 07:49 amMobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers 1-5 (Katsuyuki Sumizawa, Tomofumi Ogasawara) - I have had all of Glory sitting around for ages and have tried to read it more than once only to repeatedly have Stuff happen. This time, I will grab my swords if Stuff gets in my way. While normally I'm fine with the Sunrise stance of "only animated is canon", this is a firmed up version of the story featuring a lot of amazing redesigns, extra info, etc. Looking forward to reading the rest.
My Love Story!! - anime, since I'd just watched the live action. Honestly, I liked the live action more. I thought the anime was only 12-13 episodes but it's 24 and it really drags in places. It's nice to have the setting and characters filled out, but it really drags in places. Can probably let it go since I can't imagine wanting to watch it again.
Tsukipro The Animation - S1, like with any idol anime, I'm here to listen to the songs as much as anything. One of the guys looks a bit like RS2's Noel so he's automatically my fave. I have S2 waiting in the queue.
Cyborg 009 vs Devilman - this is a lot of fun and a complete mess. Should you watch this if you don't know either franchise? No. Should you watch this if you do? Probably not. But you'll do it anyway, just like I have multiple times now.
The Omen 1-4 - ah, boycritter brought these over because I'd made a comment about never having seen the first one (or being aware of there being more than one, I guess). The first one was pretty good, 2 had me laughing uproariously at the bad special effects, 3 was decent, and 4 was atrocious. Good fun, but more ridiculous than scary and I also feel like 4 forgot half the plot of 3.
Yoroiden Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors - technically the latter since I watched the dub. Absolute fun except for the middle part which I want to edit down with a knife. This is one of those "I have watched good chunks of this in the past but never made it all the way through" shows, and yay, now I have. (Except the OVAs which... I can continue skipping, lol.)
And now, I can't believe I'm watching these before even the halfway point of the viewing period - JFF Theater!
The Lines That Define Me - culture drama about a young man finding healing through sumi-e. Absolutely gorgeous and takes the time to explain sumi-e and demonstrate beautifully without feeling like it's taking away from the plot. Also very tropey, as far as culture dramas seem to go. Definitely recommended if you can watch JFF stuff.
Bonsai Warrior - a documentary about a guy traveling the world teaching and demonstrating bonsai. Interesting watch, worth it also for the information about bonsai practitioners around the world.
Thermae Romae - if you can watch any JFF film this quarter, watch this one. It's fucking hysterical in every way. The gist is that a Roman bathhouse architect is in a slump and ends up magically transported to a modern Japanese bathhouse. This happens again and again, and he experiences all sorts of interesting things (like a bidet, lol) but not really understanding what's happening. At one point, a group of old Japanese men end up in Rome.
(Roman slavery is a fairly prominent concept, however, if you would rather not.)
MDZS, the Brindlewood Version
Mar. 7th, 2026 11:28 amOr rather, based on one small detail of MDZS/The Untamed, using a modern-AU setting: Investigating the death of Lan Furen. (Adventure title: Lost in the Clouds. Complexity 7. Would be 6, but the death is 30-ish years old, so they're working with some difficulty.)
Brindlewood Bay has a different approach: Instead of "GM decides on the details of the murder and sets a bunch of clues that the players have to find and figure out," the GM sets the location, a list of suspects, a list of clues - and the players then come up with their own idea of who did what. Then they roll. If they roll high enough, they were correct and have solved the murder. (If they roll almost high enough, they were correct but now there is a complication - the murderer is getting away, or attacks them, or someone is in danger because of what they've revealed, etc.)
I don't have to decide what happened to Lan Furen to have it as the base of a murder mystery here. I just have to figure out who might've been involved, invent some clues, and throw them at the players.
( It's been more difficult than I thought. )

Mar. 7th, 2026 02:22 pm:(
Mar. 7th, 2026 07:28 pm(some links go to PF, because i wrote this post there and am cross-posting)
well, i'm bummed.
so you know how last year i participated in a publishing challenge and actually published (!) my first book (!!) thanks to it? well, it's a yearly event and i was really, really exciting to give it a go again. i had the signup date marked on my calendar and everything!
and now the mods have announced that they'll be using generative AI art covers this year.
like, good on them for announcing this a few months before the event. i'm glad they're transparent about this. but i am also bitterly disappointed, and i get more and more disappointed the more i think about. i guess i shouldn't be surprised: the mod responsible for making the covers is fully onboard with using AI art for book covers.
they're still also going to do the full roster of book covers using stock art so people can choose not to get the AI art, they've said. that's like 100 covers, or possibly 120? i'm a bit confused.
for clarity, the event works like this:
100 people signup, and once signups close, a ranking spreadsheet is sent out and a site goes up with all the covers (at least 100, so everyone gets one) available. you rank the covers (ideally up to like 30 of them) and you'll be assigned one of the covers by the mods. you then must create a story based on that cover and publish it before the event deadline, or the cover rights revert to the organizers. it's an anon event, too, so you must use the pen name already on the cover (though you can change between a masc, fem name or initials) and you can not reveal who you really are until the event is fully over. it's also a no-spend event, so you're not allowed to spend money on anything. paid marketing graphics, paid beta readers, paid services etc is off the table. this is to give everyone in the challenge the same starting point.
up until this year, they used only stock art for the covers. mainly grandfailure, who is of course an amazing artist.
they've stated the reason for this shift as being because they're running out of grandfailure's stock art (120 covers a year (erring on the side of caution) * 5 years? 6 years? (the event has been running for a while) = 720 stock arts. grandfailure has like 2k images on shutterstock, though, so i think they're overreacting a bit too this.) and they don't trust other stock art because there's so much AI art on all those sites now anyway. so they might as well make the AI art themselves and they'll be sure which is AI!
which like. yeah. that's a stance you can take, i guess.
they also reuse a lot of the covers, though. like, last year only 38 or something of the 100 participants finished the challenge, and consequently i assume that like 70 of those covers should have gone back into the pool? that's how i understood it, and i know some of the covers have been in that pool for years. idk, maybe it's just me, but i think they're being a little bit pessimistic here about how quickly they'll go through grandfailure's art. idk, maybe they're combining images more than i thought? maybe they're discarding some covers? i truly don't know.
they keep saying in the discord server that they're open to alternatives, but every alternative presented gets rejected. like, it's very clear it's not open for debate this year. which, they can do that! it's their event! freedom and all that. but the tone is very defensive to me, and they definitly feel like they're trying to die on this hill.
they're going to make 100 stock art covers for this year, plus presumably 100 AI art covers. that's a lot of work if they're not a-okay with AI art.
so. i'm bummed.
i won't participate this year. i'm not okay with my writing being associated with AI art and more than that, an AI art positive event. even if i personally got a stock art cover, it'd still feel like i'm getting poisoned by association. i don't want to have my name connected to something like that. i don't want to support the authors that get the AI art covers, i don't want to hype an event that uses it, and i don't want to contribute to the prolification of AI art used for book covers in general.
i'll stick around in the discord server because i'm really, really curious how this will play out. last year, they got 100 signups within a single day. there's been quite a lot of people in the server announcing they won't participate due to the pro AI-policy being enacted, so i'm incredibly curious to see how many signups they get this year, and how quickly they'll hit 100. it seems like they don't think this will majorly effect the event, even if a lot of people leave. and it seems like they think there's quite a lot of people in server that are pro AI, more than there are people who are anti.
it's very 'well, they don't say they support generative AI-useage, but that's just because it's so frowned upon right now. i'm sure they're still here!'
while some people have left, and told the mods they're disappointed and won't support this etc, quite a few people have also stated their support. and that they'll still participate. some of them said they'll just only rank the stock art and veto AI art (which the mods have said they'll consider that being an option), but imo that's weak fence-sitting.
i'm very bummed, and very bitter. and just honestly kind of sad.

Mar. 7th, 2026 06:09 amGoing to try to actually go through my cassettes and get through my cassettes this time... I wish I was more attached to my old radio shows, but I'm not. You know how some people have a face for radio? I had a voice for print and I sort of wish someone had done me a kindness and pointed this out sooner. So far, on my actual demo tape, I've found one incredibly good cut and that's it. I also found the single for MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This. ^_^ Right now, there's a mix tape I made at a station... So many empty cases, too. At one point, I was finding piles of my cassettes at home among my mother's stuff and I never figured out what she was doing with them.
Sorting through papers, too. I'm finding cards and whatnot from ~xmas and argh, I'm sorry and thank you to everyone who sent things. ^^;;

Mar. 7th, 2026 03:11 amI again write things down
Mar. 6th, 2026 09:48 pmI think I'm also reaching that funny point where I just straight up won't write anything or much for a while. Last year that happened also in March (though I was going through a burnout at that time last year due to writing so much stuff back to back for a bingo event) so it might just be another month like that. Linda sad since I do have an event to participate in and I wanted to do better than last last time I participated in it (though I'm already doing better by actually writing more than twice for it). We'll still see now the month goes along.
And as now it's March that also means another thing: Gregor torture allowed. I've mentioned some stuff I wanna do with that, right now it's really just the matter of when I do it. I'm hoping these end up being a bit longer too, it's been a while since the last time I did a longer fic. I also need to work more on the creative bingo, as I've done very little so far. I'm expecting most stuff to get done in the latter half of the year just like how it was in 2025 too, so right now I'm not too worried about it.
I also need to get working on the fannish 50 in 2026 because i haven't even started yet. I have a few ideas on what to work on, so I need to get around that.
Now I need to sit down and write stuff, one way or another.
music, again
Mar. 6th, 2026 01:48 pm( Read more... )
I think that's about enough music listening for me for one day. There are so many more D songs to get through, but I'm burning out.
