Kitchen makeover

I have started my kitchen overhaul! This last week, we redid the cabinets. I don't know what I was thinking! :) You had to sand it first, then paint (which took at least 6 coats to cover!), then antique the edges, then topcoat! I was an idiot and forgot about primer, or I think the painting would have gone a lot faster. I still need to pick out my hardware. I can't decide on knobs or handles. I need to paint the walls too. Right now it's very mute cuz of the white/beige floors, white cabintes, and tan countertop, and some white appliances (those will be stainless steel eventually :) ).
Here are the before pics...

And the after...

Landon demanded he be in at least one pic :)
Here is an upclose of the antiquing

Food Revolution

So I don't know if anyone else is following this show, but I'm hooked! Its crazy to me to see how people can know that obesity is such a HUGE problem, especially with children, and not want to do anything to change it. On one of the episodes, Jamie makes a veggie noodle dish that has like 7 different veggies in it, but the head lunch lady says it isn't an appropriate meal because you have to have 1 1/4 cups fruit/veg in the meal and his portion isn't big enough. So, she says he can't serve it and to serve the chicken sandwhich and fries instead! FRIES, seriously? The sadest part is that fries are considered a vegetable for school lunch! If you want more info or are willing to sign teh petition to help Jamie's cause checkout jamieoliver.com. Adam and I have been on a little bitof a health kick lately and today I was looking through my coupons to go shopping and there was a Carl's Jr. ad. It got me curious of how fatty one of their hamburgers really are! This is what I found:

The Grilled Cheese Bacon Six-Dollar Burger

Total Cal: 990

Total Fat: 69

Cal from Fat: 610

Sodium: 2280

That is just the BURGER!! The sodium content on that one blew me away! With the fries you're looking at another 320 cal, 15 g of fat, and 830 g of sodium. And that is if you get the small fries.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but tell me what the rest of you think about school lunch in foods and childhood obesity.

Playhouse

I saw these felt playhouses online and thought they were so cute! But, they were kinda pricey and made to go over a folding table (which, I don't have). My friend, Katie, and I thought we could probably make our own and use PVC pipe as a frame. That way, we could make them taller too and the kids could stand up in them. So, a bunch of felt and 5 days later, this is what I ended up with......

The door unbuttons and the mail box is a pocket that holds felt letters and the flap opens and buttons closed.
On the Pirate themed side, the treasusre map comes off and the treasure chest is a pocket that he can put his own treasures in, but he can also take the felt treasure on and off. I haven't fininshed the ship yet, but I want to run a rope down the other mast and attach a pirate flag that he can raise and lower :)

This side is the apple orchard. He can pick the apples and put them in hte basket. The sun rays also come off and are double-sided so they can be either yellow or orange.

The train station has a ticket window with felt tickets off to the side. The train has pockets and the wheels button on. The puffs of smoke also come off.

I still have a few touch ups, and I want to make some stuff for the inside walls. The best part is where it's made of the PVC pipe, you can take it apart and it's portable. I have the hardest time getting Landon to stay put at soccer games or when Adam played softball. But, with the playhouse, I can take it with and set it up and it will entertain and keep him out of the sun. I have never really sewn and never thought I could make something like this! So to all you other moms out there that see something like this that you would want to make, but don't think you can! GO FOR IT!! If I did it, you can :)

Viva Las Vegas

The last weekend in Feb., all the girls (from adam's fam) took a girl's road trip to Vegas!! It was a blast. Unfortunately, the not so great weather followed us, and it rained both nights :( So, we weren't really able to walk the strip and get all the classic Vegas pics out front all the casino/hotels. The first night we got in, we were all pretty exhausted from the drive and just went to eat and went to see "Dear John" at one of the movie theaters. Wasn't the best movie we've seen, but we still had a fun night. The next day we went shopping at all the outlet malls and got some great deals. That night we went to Caesar's Palace and played a few slots and then ate at The Buffet at the Wynn. Endless crab legs, YUMMY!! Here is a few pics of our fun weekend :)

The Girls with Caesar

The Buffet was so good and the decor was georgeous!

We stayed at the J.W. Marriot. The landscape of the hotel was so awesome and so beautiful! I love waterfalls! I could sit around one lounging all day!!

Thanks again girls! It was a blast! Can't wait for our next trip!

SO EXCITED!!!!!

Adam and I are horrible at waiting until the actual holiday to give each other gifts. So, of course we have already given each other our Valentine's presents :) I got him a power tower and gave it to him early because he has stopped at the gym, and needed the tower to workout at home. Since I gave him his early, he gave me mine early :) He got me Daughtry tickets for when they come in April!! I'm so EXCITED!!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I love Daughtry! Hope all of you have a great Valentine's Day!!!

Help Please

It's crazy to me, but Landon is gonna start Preschool this fall. Apparently schools fill up very quickly. So I am tring to do some research and get him enrolled. The problem is, that I have no idea about any of the preschools out in my area. So, this is my request for help :) If you are familiar with any preschools in the clinton or surrounding areas that you would suggest, please leave me a comment and let me know. THANKS!!!
