Is it just me or has been an excessively shitty year? And it's only July??? I haven't blogged in forever and I may or may not blog again for a few months after this. Not sure anyone reads it anyway so doesn't really matter. My uncle died a little less than two months ago. He died way too young. Cancer. It was in his brain so they couldn't remove it surgically and was so aggressive that the chemo and radiation just made him feel sick, didn't really affect the cancer. We only found out in December that he even had cancer and he's already gone. It's been hard watching my family deal with this. They're all amazing people, just like my uncle was, but they shouldn't have to deal with this. If there's someone out there to blame for this please let me know, I'd like a few words.
My parents are divorcing. 23 years and now they're just done. It's odd because it wasn't like there was some big blow out, they didn't get mean and snippy towards each other. Just indifferent, like they have been for as long as I can remember. I'm angry about it. That small part of me wants to lash out and ask them why the hell they think they can do this? But then I step back and see that this is absolutely the best thing for both of them and when I'm being really honest I can admit that this probably should have happened a long time ago. Dad's got a new girlfriend already. She's been in the picture a lot longer than he'll admit. She's only 7 years older than me and she hides from me. How can I be expected to be polite and respectful to someone with no backbone? And if they think that there's nothing wrong with their relationship then why are they hiding it?
I got moved to the graveyard shift at work. It's been interesting having my sleep and work schedules completely reverse. This is night three and I'm doing better than I had hoped. I wish I could have stayed on graves but am totally fine with this shift. I figure if I have to be up all night I might as well start to go back to school. At the very least it'll give me something to do at work. It's so quiet here at night. Makes me twitchy.
Well...aren't I just a regular little Mary Sunshine?

Grandma
So my grandmother has made a few new friends. One of her new friends frequents the jail on occasion and knowing this doesn't really give me the warm fuzzies when I see him and his family over at her house. They are nice people and my grandma loves their little girls but at the same time she's my grandma and I love her and would have to put a serious hurting on anyone who messed with her. Do you think I'm being overly protective and irrational? He hasn't gone to jail for any violent crimes but still, I just don't think my grandma needs to be hanging out with past prisoners of our fine local correctional facility. I'm debating on speaking with him about it, kind of a "I know who you are and I'm watching you" kind of thing. Am I crazy?

Bocephus...Our Fuzzy Little Terrorist

So we got a puppy for my dad about a month ago. We were lucky enough to find a good Newfoundland dog breeder here in Utah and we just couldn't pass up the opportunity of getting such a great dog, especially since my dad has almost desperately wanted one for the past ten years. However, it seems like everyone in my family forgot what it's like to have a new puppy. The sharp puppy teeth, their insatiable desire to chew on everything (including my family and I), the house training, and the almost never-ending energy and desire to play. So in the past month, we've ripped out the carpet in the basement, gone through so many paper towels that I suspect that my family alone may be responsible for the destruction of an entire rainforest, and definitely remembered exactly what it's like to have a puppy in the house. As cute as he is (when he's asleep), he really is kind of a monster. He chews on our other dog, he eats an insane amount of puppy food, he cries for a good solid half hour when it's time for him to go to bed, and takes advantage of every opportunity that presents itself for him to pee in the house. Sometimes I wonder why the hell I wanted to get this puppy in the first place but then he takes a five minute break from trying to bite my fingers off and curls up next to me and takes a
nap and that gives me just enough time to start to like him again. I just hope we can teach him some manners before he gets too big. At nine weeks old when I brought him home he was 24lbs and now, three weeks later, he is weighing in at 33 lbs. I feel like time is working against me and my attempt to take this fuzzy little terrorist and turn him into a loyal and trustworthy companion. I'm sure I'll post more about him on here over time but I just hope that it will be mostly good things to post about.

So I've decided to start blogging but we all know that there is a really good chance that I'll get sick of this in two weeks and stop writing and move on, and even though I'll do my best, I'm not making any promises. For all of you out there who are creepy blog stalkers and don't really know me but are reading my blog anyways let me fill you in a little bit on who I am. Even though you are creepy blog stalkers :). I'm 21 years old, no kids, not married, smoke too much, drink too much, party like a rockstar :), love to ride my horse, rodeo a little bit, like to camp, hike, and fish, work on my truck, hang out with my friends...all the good stuff. I love reading pretty much anything so I thought I'd try my hand at writing and see where that gets me, plus I do have a pain in the butt friends and family members that live out of state so it should be easier to keep them posted on what I'm up to here in UT. So here it goes...
