My photo
I'm a hobbyist photographer, a school counselor, a health junkie, and a mom. But above all, I'm just a woman living my truth. My biggest happiness in life is to savour each moment while it happens. That's all. That's everything.

One Winter Past

This is one of my favourite photos of my boy... it's from last year.

I used this photo for his 9th birthday party.  I printed it out very LARGE and had all his guests sign it.
It was a great day.

As for being a favourite, photo.... I don't know if it's the smile on his face.

 Or the hair.

Or the fact that it was a sunny day in winter.  I hate winter.  Did I ever mention how much I hate winter?  Except for sunny warmish days in winter.  Those are okay.

Nope,  I think it's the hair.

 Definitely the hair.

Growing In The New Year

Although it's only January, I find my attention drawn to gardens, and plants, and growing things. My son says I'm weird that way. I tell him it's that I'm wired that way. Sigh. Nine year olds.

Yes, I'm already planning my garden. And yes, it's mostly mapped out. But, since it'll be months before I can actually do anything about it, I keep my attention focused on what I can grow now. Which is, I keep a growing shelf year round in my dining room.

Right now I have succulents and herbs, like basil, catnip and rosemary. Not pictured are the occasional sprout plates and jars. (I have a jar of sprouts in my fridge today.)

In the spring, when it's time to start my seeds, I'll put them in the bright sunshine on this shelf to get them started, which is great excitement to me.

And speaking of the rosemary, I've had this plant for years (bottom shelf in the above photo). They say it's hard to grow rosemary, but I guess I've lucked out here because it's almost five years old. It's become a little tree.

Cute little thing, isn't it.

Happy New Year

I didn't do this last year... was in some kind of slump, so I skipped it.  I felt sad about that because this is my thing.  Maybe not worth bragging about, but... we do it because I like it.

It's my way of welcoming in the new year.

Welcome to 2016.

Last Day of 2015

Yikes! After tonight the year is over.

People tend at this time of year to look back over the past 365 days and evaluate it... attempt to summarize it... even make promises or goals for the coming year.  I respect that.  I'm just not one to do that.

I don't mean to be flippant here, really.  I don't.  It's just not me.  I get bogged down in morose aspects of it, relive embarrassing moments wherein I want to hide away from society altogether, or cringe with regret about my thoughtless antics.

You see, I'm flawed.  I have regrets.  I make mistakes.  But those don't discount all the good that exists either.  So instead of getting caught up in the past year, I'm focusing on the present... what's good in it that grounds me, anchors me, keeps me here.

Happy New Year!

Pretty People

All I can say about what I've learned along the way is that, all other photography skills aside, it's easier photographing beautiful people. And I've been quite fortunate to have been able to almost exclusively photograph beautiful people. Lucky photographer am I!

Don't believe me?  Check out my last post.  Or check out the photos here:

Adorable, right?

I don't lie about things like this.  Other things, yes.  This? No.

I mean, look at them!  They enjoy having their pictures taken, too, so it's a double-win to me.

Starting Again

Well.  It's been a couple of years since I last wrote anything here or shared a photo.  I don't know where time goes!

I know I've been distracted by life; my focus the past few years has been on health, through learning about nutrition, cooking and baking healthier recipes (even developed several of my own), gardening, and exercise.  Unfortunately that has allowed some things, like this internet space and even my photography, to take a back seat.

As a (very casual) hobbyist my photography is still here.  Fortunately I have some friends who like to make use of my skills, which makes me incredibly happy.  I think I'll start out here again with sharing some recent images.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
