October Fun

We had such a fun month of October!  It started with General Conference weekend.  Maren came up for the weekend and it was so fun to have her here!  The Fall colors are beautiful this year and we took a couple of opportunities to see them.

For the Saturday afternoon General Conference session we had Gramma Lana over and for the Sunday afternoon session we drove up to Logan to watch with Dustin's dad.  It was a lovely weekend.

Dustin finally wore one of his new suits (I think he needed new black shoes before he could wear it)!  I had to take a picture because he looked so good.

Ryan had Region Cross Country to end his season.  He did great!

Dustin had a one of his parks win an award.  He was the Project Manager for Magna Regional Park and it won an Honors Award with ASLA.

I started another project!  I painted the carport.  Dustin helped me start the project by spraying off the loose paint the night before.  And then I spent a few weeks prepping, priming and then painting the entire carport!  It was a test of my patience and endurance.  Haha!

Now my outdoor projects are done (for the season...I need to fix the two beams on the front porch but that will have to wait until the Spring).

During one week, we had three concerts for our two boys!  Two choir and one band concert, and it happened to be a week when Dustin was out of town for work.  They sounded great!  Grant has recently switched from trumpet to Bass Clarinet and he is enjoying band again.

That week that Dustin was gone was spent in Dallas at a work conference.  They worked really hard...

Dustin had his 46th birthday!  Rod came down from Logan and took us all to dinner to celebrate at Buca de Beppo.  The portions are large and it was a fun night!

The next day was his actual birthday.  The boys made him a cake and we celebrated with Gramma Lana.  We love Dustin!  He brings a lot of fun to our lives!

For Fall Break this year we went to Cedar City to spend some time with my parents.  Their apple trees were loaded and we had a lot of fun picking all that we could!  We brought a lot home and I've been sharing them with neighbors because I don't think we can get through all we have!

Dinner at Pizza Hut and nobody spilled any root beer!  (It is a standing joke in my family because we seemed to always spill the root beer on our annual pizza hut dinner when I was a kid)

We took a day trip to the Grand Canyon!  It was gorgeous!

I only made it a short way on this hike before I realized it was not for me.  It was super high up, with ledges on either side.  If you don't know this, I am terrified of heights, and I had visions of me having a panic attack and laying down to die on the trail and them having to helicopter me out of the canyon.  So I opted to go back and take Pepper on a short, safe walk, while my elderly, not as stable on their feet as they used to be, parents and the rest of my family did the scary hike.  And everyone survived!

We also went on another hike with great views.

We stopped in Kanab for dinner and then headed back to Cedar City.

We spent the next couple of days going on walks, helping with random chores at my parents house, visiting my best friend from my childhood and her grandbaby (We are so old!!), and relaxing with my parents.  It was a great Fall Break!

We stopped in Provo on the way home to take Maren grocery shopping and visit for a couple of hours.  It was a lovely, relaxing Fall Break!

Also in October--we had a Young Women Halloween party at my house.  We painted pumpkins and made caramel apples.

On another day I helped Lynnette work on refinishing her kitchen cabinets.

Dustin and I went to an Orchestra on Temple Square concert.

Lynnette and Jim and their family were also at the concert so we got to sit by them.

The boys picked the biggest pumpkins they could find at the grocery store.  Ryan's was 45 pounds and Grant's was 31!  The store scale only went to 30 pounds, so they gave us the remainder of pounds free!  Score!

We had a 4 ward Halloween Trunk or Treat in our building.  Our boys both had other plans, so Dustin and I had a date there.  This seems to be the new trend of our household.  It's a weird stage of life to find ourselves in!

Mine and Dustin's small pumpkins were the only ones that grew in our garden this year.  It was a bust.

We had a Cousin Halloween party at Jen's house!  We had lots of spooky food and a fun game of Murder in the Dark.

I had fun Halloween parties in Preschool!  And, aren't the kids adorable in their costumes?? People couldn't tell if I was a cow or a Dalmatian, but I was a Dalmatian.  The kids knew, because I got my head petted by them.  That night the boys both went to Halloween parties with friends and Dustin and I handed out candy to those few people who came by our house.  It was a great Halloween!  And, now on to Thanksgiving/Christmas!
