First Thanksgiving

Avery had a wonderful first Thanksgiving despite having her first cold! We spent the day in Orinda with her paternal grandparents, great grandma, great uncle Uldis from Latvia and cousins Lisa and Chase. Avery has enjoyed the time with extended family and being passed around from person to person. She especially likes to sleep in people's arms. And of course Avery had a special outfit for the day.

Meeting New Friends

Avery has already had the opportunity to meet a new friend who is younger than she is. Samantha was born six weeks after Avery to our friends Andy and Alecia. Here's a picture of the proud daddies and their daughters.

Avery's First Bed

Since we have had so many questions and comments on Avery's first bed, I thought I would post a picture so everyone could see her in her drawer. We have a tiny condo and there is simply no room for a bassinet. So instead she is sleeping in a drawer in Chip's dresser. It is however a giant dresser and each drawer is the size of a bassinet anyway. Avery is quite content in her drawer, and we figure it will give her plenty of stories when she grows up!!

It's NOT just gas!!

Avery started smiling at about 5 weeks with legitimate smiles that were socially motivated and not just a byproduct of the ever present gas bubble in her tummy. It did take us over a week to capture the wonderful proof digitally....Here it is:

Grandpa's Hair??

So after my morning shower my parents thought I looked so much like my Grandpa Brian with curly brown hair, they took a photo of me so everyone can see. I think it looks a little like a mug shot...Mom is also trying to get me to strengthen my neck muscles and makes me spend time on my tummy. Here's a picture.

3 pounds in 4 weeks!!

Avery's first month has been fun, tiring and an experience Chip and I treasure daily. We took our little girl to get weighed and couldn't believe our eyes when the scale read 10 lbs and 2 oz. We actually had the staff come and help us because surely our little girl hadn't broken the 10 pound mark yet! But sure enough we had used the scale correctly, and Avery was 2 oz shy of gaining 3 full pounds in 4 weeks. Notice the cheeks are getting rounder and she is working on filling out her double chin..
