We went to Fish Lake for a family reunion with my mom's side of the family over the 4
th. It's something we always did while I was growing up, but it seems kind of hit-and-miss the last few years. With the Taylor family spread out around the state this is the only time of the year we see a lot of them. My grandma mentioned to me while we were there that there are 120 of us. This includes my
grandparents, their children and spouses,
grandchildren and spouses, and great-
grandchildren. We figured we had about 70 people there....69 relatives and 1 foreign exchange student.
Jaxon spent Friday sliding down a dirt hill with his cousins. He was filthy from head to toe and in every crevice. It was disgusting, but he was happy. He wasn't so happy when Brian washed him down in freezing water before bed. I'm sure it was the memory of the water that kept
Jaxon far away from the hill of dirt on Saturday. Well, that and a few encouraging words from his parents.
Ryker spent the weekend being passed to whoever was willing to hold him. Poor kid. It really wasn't a great place for a baby. He did fairly well
considering he didn't go to sleep until it was dark, it was freezing cold at night, he awoke as soon as the sun came up, he had no naps on Saturday, and I wouldn't let him eat rocks. It was rough...for all of us.
On Saturday Uncle Marc taught
Jaxon how to cast with a fishing pole. He spent at least an hour in the parking lot practicing his new skills with his cousin Jeffrey. Later they moved to a large rock where they (
unsuccessfully) cast into the grass. At least from the rock they were able to get a view of the lake. It's as good as being there, really.
A little bit later that day we packed up our belongings (24 hours was a long enough camping excursion for us) and headed to the lake for a picnic before driving home.
Jaxon tried casting into the water, but soon realized that throwing rocks into the lake was just as much, if not more, fun.

That night we went up to the Brigham City fireworks with Brian's parents. Jaxon loved them. Ryker slept through them. They weren't as good as in years past, but still a fun show. We're blaming it on the economy...they have to save money some where and if they have to cut money I would rather it be with the fireworks than the classroom.
