Bye bye lazy eyes

Ever since Chloe starts to be four eyed, we are quite worry that her short sighted power will increase. After wearing spectacle for 6 months, spoil the frame of her 1st pair then scratch the lens of her second pair, it's time for her eyes checkup again. This round we brought her to another optometrist and we were very satisfied of their professional service.

This round her prescription is: -

R = -050 -175 x 180 6/7.5

L = -025 -150 x 170 6/7.5

Her vision acuity improve from 12 to 7.5, which mean no more lazy eyes.

We bought her a better metal frame of KIKO brand. Total frame with lens cost us RM270.

Parent Teacher Meeting November 2013

Year end and it is another Parent Teacher Meeting to evaluate the kids' performance throughout the year.

Chloe

Very disappointed on her result, especially the Chinese and Math. She has not do well on these 2 subjects, quite weak on recognize and writing Chinese words. My fault too as I don't really go through reading and writing with her.

Now got to burn midnight candle start over again on recognize 100, 200, 300, 400 words & etc with her. But now instead of read and recognize, I do let her write out too. Hopefully it can straighten her basic during this school holiday before go in standard 2 next year.

Cavin

Overall he is excellent, teacher comments he do well in all subjects. Fine motor skill is improving and he can write better compared to previous. His vocab and communication skill is improving too.

P/S: Full attendance for Chloe. Very glad of that.

Graduation Concert 2013

It's year end again, which means nice costumes, stylish hairstyle, pretty makeup faces, gifts and award CONCERT night.

This is his second year kinder concert, but unfortunately he down with fever, throat infection and mouth ulcers. Pity boy and he is moodiness that night.

We are so proud of him that he has been awarded as the Student of the Year for year 4 class. His sister was so happy and ran over to give him a big HUG when he came down from the stage. Well done Cavin.

Chloe's 7th Birthday

This is a very back dated post. Chloe officially turn 7 years old on 24th July. Long ago she already marked her birthday on calender, even told me what to buy for her as her birthday present. Well really no surprise for her but kids are innocent, she is so happy when she opened her pressie.

This year her birthday fall on weekday. We have an early celebration with her during the weekend for dim sum buffet at Toh Yuen Restaurant, PJ Hilton.

And on the actual day, she had 2 cake cutting session at daycare and home.

It has been half year both kids attend school, and it's time again school held Parent Teacher Meeting to discuss about the student performance in school.

Teacher comment:

过于好玩，对功课不注意。须知勤有功，嬉无益。

Focusing and attention span improve, able to sit still. But still a bit cheeky, talkative and sometime daydream in class.

Remark:

Her result overall is okay, A for all subject, except reading in Chinese, art and computer.

Cavin

Teacher comment:

Able to sit still, although attention span improve but still short. Like to win and take it seriously, cannot accept to be loser. Love Chinese and able to recognize all the words that been taught, need more guidance in sequence of writing Chinese words.

P/S: Full attendance for both kids. (So happy for this) *crossed my fingers

Popular Bookfest 2013

We have a quite fruitful programme last Saturday. Morning we went for swimming, or should I call it water playing at the pool.

After lunch, we went to Popular Bookfest 2013 at Viva Expo Hall, Cheras. All books selling up to 90% discount. Even those branded stationery offer 30% off for member. Bought some books, cheap KSSR work books and stationery.

Then we have a quick dinner before proceed to cinema for the animation, Epic.

This year the kindergarten holding Amazing Race No. 2. It's exactly similar to previous year, but we have so much fun, especially the children.

Today is Teacher's day, same like previous years I'll prepare a small gift to my children's teacher. Thank you and appreciate for their hard work, effort and etc.

This year Chloe is attending standard 1. She said teacher told them not to waste money buy nice gift during teacher's day. A red pen or marker pen is good enough. This really easy for me to prepare the gift. A small pink heart shape card to slot in the pen and it look nice and presentable.

Monday 0605 was Cavin's 4th Birthday, nothing special on that day as we really don't have any mood to celebrate.

Well luckily we have pre-celebrate his birthday before the GE13. A simple dinner for the family in conjunction with Mother's Day celebration. Hope you don't mind ya my dear.

We have our dinner at Hakka Restaurant. The food was so so, nothing special and don't think will revisit again.

My 2 kiddos have very different character. One is brave and rough, another one is timid and gentle. They are so much different and sometime scratching my head to handle 2 different personality kids.

My boy is very obviously a mommy boy. A very gentle little man but sometime quite stubborn too. The way he plead you in his praying hands with his O shape mouth, it’s so cute. I hardly can refuse it, he can very good melting my heart.

Sometime when I did sometime wrong or forgot what I have promised him: -

Mommy: Are you angry with mommy?

Cavin: No.

Mommy: I promise tomorrow I’ll get it for you. Don’t angry ya.

Cavin: Why you never say sorry?

Mommy: Opps sorry my dear. It’s ok now?

Cavin Yes (and he smile)

He is a very forgiving boy, thus he hopes others are the same too. When he disturbs his sister and Chloe wail and complain about him. He will come forward to me and tell me “Mommy I say sorry already.” *laugh

Tingxie 听写

Since from K1 & K2, Chloe already start tingxie 听写. From 1 word till the maximum 2 words. Now she is standard 1, every Tuesday will be her tingxie. Teacher will ask them write it in their notebook 笔记簿. Overall she still manageable because I'll practice with her. Averagely she get all correct but sometime she also made silly mistake.

Last week I noticed a paper paste in her notebook. A list of all the tingxie for coming 10 weeks. I almost fainted looking at the short sentence tingxie. I doubt she can get full mark. She always forgot some words that already learn from tingxie. Nightmare for me soon when practice with her haha.

Smart in another way

My kids' daycare is very caring and concern on children diet, water consumption, hygiene and etc. Teachers also will monitor their water consumption & urine color. When they drink less, teacher will start to pump them enough plain water to avoid fall sick.

Yesterday the teacher told me Cavin has caught cheating. As usual teacher will check his urine to see whether he has drink enough. But yesterday while teacher need to excuse for a minute, came back found Cavin was spraying water into toilet boil. He was trying to cover the evidence 毁灭证据, spraying water to wash away his yellowish urine. At the end teacher punish him to drink more.

Teacher also complaining he start picky eating. During lunch time, he will pick and eat all his favourite dishes, left the rice at last. Therefore he takes longer time to finish his lunch. Teacher joking and said if other that never knows will thought he been torturing by eating a bowl of plain rice without any dishes. It’s weird as he never be picky like this when dining with us.

After Chloe complaint that she can't see the word teacher wrote on the whiteboard at the back of the class, we have decided to bring her for another round eye check. Since ophthalmologist has said she got astigmatism, I have told myself no choice she need to wear specs if she really needed.

The eyes specialist checked her eyes through machine and then proceed to read the Snellen Chart (the alphabet chart). Sadly to say her vision is not so good. Even after corrected with specs her vision acuity can't get 6/6.

This is her prescription: -

R = -075 -175 x 180 6/12

L = -050 -125 x 170 6/12

Right eye - Myopia 75, Astigmatism 175, Vision Acuity 6/12

Left eye - Myopia 50, Astigmatism 125, Vision Acuity 6/12

Since her vision acuity can't fully corrected with specs, it's advisable she wear the specs all day to improve and correct her vision.

The optical shop doing promotion for buy 1 get 1 free (only for kids' specs). Due to flat nose, Chloe has no choice to wear steel frame.

9th Anniversary & Valentine's gift

A very backdated post. On Valentine's day is also our Anniversary day. This year we don't have any celebration as it fall on CNY week. We just had a simple outing and dinner.

Hubby bought me a nice timepiece when we attended the Digi staff fair sales. A Swiss made watch that worth thousand plus selling at sales price with -70% off, really attractive deal. Thank you my dear, muak.

2013 Chinese New Year Eve

How was you guys Chinese New Year celebration? Mine was so fruitful, outing everyday from day 1 till day 8. Okay lets talk about the eve, as usual I'll cook and BIL's family will come over for reunion dinner.

This year I tried something special - Homemade Poon Choi. Google and found an easy recipe online from a guy chef. The recipe in step by step way, look easy but when preparing it's quite tedious work too. Luckily some dish can prepare a day before, so it still not too hard to finish the dish on the eve.

Chicken stock

1/2 kampung chicken, 10 pcs chicken feet, 10 pcs mushroom, 2 tablespoon small dried scallop. Boil it 1 day ahead.

Ingredient

Radish, carrot, Chinese cabbage, Broccoli & crab stick (steam)

Braised mushroom & sea cucumber

Baby abalone (steam the whole can of abalone for 2 hrs till it tender)

Prawn, yam stick, fish roll (deep fried)

Roasted chicken (I bought from chicken rice shop)

Giant dried scallop (Steam and keep the soup)

Method

1. Place the radish and carrot at the bottom, follow by Chinese cabbage.

2. Arrange all the ingredients on top. Broccoli in the middle and giant dried scallop on top of it.

3. For the soup base, use chicken stock and the soup that you steam the dried scallop. Boil it and coated it with cornflour. Then pour on top of the Homemade Poon Choi.

Serving

It's good to serve in hot, you can heat it on gas or electrical stove.

This is my version of Homemade Poon Choi, taste wise oklah eatable, presentation still ok can be put on dining table. LOL

Astigmatism

We brought Chloe to opthamologist for eyes checkup last December. Doctor found out she has mild astigmatism but no myopia, so glasses is not needed.

What is astigmatism? Astigmatism is a condition in which an abnormal curvature of the cornea can cause two focal points to fall in two different locations, making objects up close and at a distance appears blurry. In Chinese it calls 散光.

Mild astigmatism is a common and normal finding in many young children. As they grow up the cornea changes shape and most children lose the astigmatism. Astigmatism could be in born or inherit from parent.

Last 2 weeks she complained she can't see clearly the home work list written at the back of her classroom. Currently she is sitting on the first row, she can see clearly the front whiteboard. I said can you walk to back to copy the homework list? She said teacher ask to copy on their desk, it's too far for her and she can't see.

We decided to bring her to do another eyes test and get her a glasses. But we are so busy lately for Chinese New Year preparation and hubby always outstation on weekend. Hopefully it can be done soon without further delay.

Cavin back to school

After a long school holiday, Cavin back to kinder on this Monday. 3 and 4 years old class start school much later in his kinder. So he has been stayed with me while I accompanied his sister to primary school. Good that he can accompanied his sister and I took the chance to clarify with him that his sister already graduated, now attend big school, no longer same small school with him. He said he wants to go big school too. *laugh

I'm glad that I made a correct decision by sending him to kinder last year while he was just 2 years plus. After a year in kinder, he adapt well with school life and familiar with all his teachers. I have no problem with his first day back to school. All I need is to drop him at the school gate, then he will happily bid goodbye to me before teacher lead him in. No shed tears, no tantrums and I feel so much relieve as I really can't handle if 2 kids attend their new school for the very first day.

She is going primary

This school opening Chloe is going to primary. Her school is full day so she need to get up at 6.10am and reach school at 7am+. On 1st day we took Route A, heavy congested traffic and we were late to school. On 2nd day, my alarm made problem and we were late again. But this round we took Route B, the traffic seem better. Then on 3rd day which is this morning, we leave the house at 6.45am and reached school at 7.10am. Just nice for her to queue at assembly hall before climb up to class.

Yes climbing up, her class is on 1st floor. I wonder why school allocate like this. Pity her got to walk up with school bag. At the end, we bought her a new light backpack as her roller bag is really not practical. Then we will prepare her a small tuition bag to put exercise books. To lighten their bag, teacher let them put their activity books in school. Homework will be done with teacher guidance during 1 hour homework class in the afternoon. Those homework that have been done will pass up and only return back to them on Friday.

Overall she is alright and adapt well on her new school. Her class has total of 44 students, but teacher said later on will readjust as some other classes are small. Hopefully Chloe will remind in current class without any changes.

We have cater lunch for Chloe but it will only start on 14th January onward when the school start full day school till 3.30pm. I'll prepare breakfast and let her bring to school. Morning recess time is her favourite session. Amazingly she can finish her breakfast fast within few minutes. Then she will quickly queue at canteen buy snack and enjoy it. First day she had a waffle with egg and she bought a pack of biscuit with 50 cents. Second day she finished her hot dog and a slice of tuna bread, then she bought a small bowl of french fries with RM1. She definitely a big spender and I guess when afternoon class start, RM1 a day is not enough for her.

2012 Christmas Eve

This year Christmas Eve we have a night stay at KL Hilton. A high class 5 stars hotel but I don't really like their lobby, no proper guest sitting area, not homely feel to me. A night before, children were extremely happy and busy packing their luggage, especially their swim ware and water shooting gun.

After a short nap after swimming session, we dressed up and took a train to KLCC for our Christmas Eve dinner. It is Cavin first ride on train, he was so excited.

After dinner, we straightly walked to cinema for movie. Children love this animation, Rise of Guardians. Chloe was excited when see the part on tooth fairy took the children shedded tooth and left a gold coin underneath the pillow. She was so innocent and never know mommy is actually the tooth fairy.

We then walked along the mall after the show. Nice lighting and cute elf decor at the mall and not to forget to snap some photos for the children.

The next day, children were happy unwrapped their Christmas presents. An angry bird wallet from mommy and remote control car from Aunty Hazel.

First ferry experience

It's the first ferry experience for the kids. We reached Raja Tun Uda Terminal and took a ferry from Penang Island back to Butterworth. We were surprised as the port worker told us FOC, while Butterworth to Penang Island need fare.

This holiday other than food hunting we also take the opportunity to prepare school stuff for our girl. We bought school uniform and trolley bag at Kimnovak, Magazine Road. Friends recommended this local store 'own brand' good quality school uniform. All together we spend RM280++ for white shirt (3 sets), blue pinafore (3 sets), PE blue sport pants (1 set), white shoe (1 pair, her old white shoe still fit and in good condition) and a ergonomic trolley school bag.

Day 2 Pinang Peranakan Mansion

After visited Temple Kek Lok Si, we headed back to town for the last sightseeing at Pinang Peranakan Mansion, Church Street. Peranakans aka Babas and Nyonya, a very unique was a prominent community of acculturated Chinese unique to this part of the world, especially in the Straits Settlements (Penang, Malacca and Singapore) hence its other name, the Straits Chinese. (source from Pinang Peranakan Mansion). Admissions fee is RM10 per adult, Children below 6 is free.

After the sightseeing we dropped by Joez Coconut, Jalan Dato Keramat for their coconut ice blended (RM3.50) and coconut jelly (RM4.00). No regret, the jelly and ice blended is really refreshing for a hot weather.

On the way back to hotel, we passed by Siam Road and take away the famous charcoal Char Kuey Teow. Very long queue, I waited for 20-25 mins for my order. But worth for the long queue, because his Char Kuey Teow is delicious.

Day 2 Temples visit at Penang

On the second day we proceed for temples visit at Penang. First stop at Wat Chayamangkalaram which located few hundred meter away from the hotel. This temple is notable for its Reclining Buddha statue.

Next we visit Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temples, which is opposite the Wat Chayamangkalaram. The temples has 200+ years old and believe is Penang first Buddhist temple.

After bought the school uniforms and bag for my girl at Kimnovok, Magazine Road, We proceed to Penang Road for the famous Teo Chew Cendol and lunch at nearby restaurant.

Shed her first teeth

2 weeks ago I noticed a gap on her lower incisor, the tooth is shaky . Unbelievable she clapped and jumped for joy because all her kinder friends have shredded theirs and now it's her turn. She even phone her dad and told him she was really happy and glad. @.@

She keeps pushed her tooth with finger and tongue, the tooth get more shaky but still remain there. On the morning before we depart to Penang, I send her to dentist to get teeth filling. The previous filling had came out. After the teeth re-filling, dentist applied numb gel on her gum and extract her shaky tooth. She is really happy and never forget to ask the dentist gave her back her tooth. The tooth is keep safely in a container and hoping the tooth fairy will come and leave her a gold coin.

After few days, I noticed another incisor next to the shed one is shaking. Look like someone is going to get another gold coin from tooth fairy soon.

Surprise birthday present

Today I will be another year wiser. Ever since after celebrated my 21st birthday, the age seems to be added up pretty fast hahaha. If I have 60 years old life, then I have been through more than half of it now. As I get wiser every year, I get more absent minded. If someone ask me my age now. Gosh I can't answer them straight forward. I need to take today year and deduct with the year I born. (paiseh) My memory seems worse huh, or should I said it's because I didn't bother of my age? I feel great and I'm still very young!! (laugh)

Today there is no any birthday celebration as hubby is not in town. But I got my surprise birthday present past few days. A high tech gadget, a Samsung Tab 10.1. Thanks dear for the special gift.
