A Very Merry Christmas

A belated Merry Christmas to all of our dear family and friends who are reading this.  We had a truly magical Christmas in Austin (although we missed the Varner clan in Tucson so much).  Ava Grace enjoyed all of the lights and she wasn't too concerned about the tree or the packages under it.

At Christmas Eve church service, she did a great job, especially considering that it kept her up an hour late.  She started "singing" at the top of her lungs (some may call it yelling, but it really is just the way she "talks") each time we sang and it amused the congregation.

Getting ready for church

Before she went to bed, she got to open one toy.  This would have been enough excitement for her for one Christmas, but she had no clue how much more stuff would be awaiting her in the morning!

Case in point: this is all for Ava Grace.  Santa clearly made a stop here!

It took her a while to take it all in

Thanks to daddy for helping her unwrap each gift

"Singing" with excitement (again, some may argue it's yelling, but it's too sweet to be anything but angelic)

More singing...

And we kept adding fun accessories as she opened them.  Note the new hat and tutu!

Finally came the quintessential box, which she was, of course, enthralled with!

Loved the packing peanuts more than the gift :)

After Christmas dinner, she helped Horst make his famous German wine, where rum is poured over the sugar cone into a pot of deliciously prepared red wine.  She loved the flames the rum threw off of the sugar... but not as much as she loved Horst's beard!

We ended (her) night with hanging out by the fire place.  It truly was a magical day and we feel so truly blessed.

Happy New Year to everyone from the three of us!

Wanna buy some jewelry?

Ava Grace got a part-time holiday job at Cristiani's Jewelers this year and she did a GREAT job!  If she were paid just based on the smiles she brought to our customers, she'd be rich :)

Already drooling over Rolex...
Spotting the big wrapped decorative packages...

Practicing for Christmas morning!

If her expression looks to you like "This package won't stay wrapped for long," then you're interpreting it correctly.

Merry Christmas to all of our wonderful family and friends!!!

Santa Claus

We met Santa Claus (and there were no tears!)!  I have no idea what she asked him for, but I'm sure she'll get it...

Getting ready to go

Riding High

Ava Grace's patience seems to get tested while confined to her infant carrier when we run errands.  So we tested out the shopping carts at Central Market.  BIG WIN:

Handlebars... yes!

This is really cool!

Let me check out this strap...

... by tasting it... (yucky!)

I love it so much that I'm going to sing the whole time!

So that's what I did!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We are getting ready for Santa Claus at our home!  We started with the Christmas lights and the house looks great.  More importantly, Ava Grace is mesmerized and just loves going outside to admire them.  Great job, daddy!

Trip to the Ranch

Andy's maternal grandmother's family, the Noon family, gather every year at the Noon family ranch (near Arivaca, AZ) each year on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  Everyone brings Thanksgiving leftovers and enjoys visiting, hiking and, of course, eating.  It is a wonderful tradition that everyone looks forward to each year!

Ava Grace and Emma started the morning seeking inspiration for their trip to the ranch in their new matching horsey pj's (thank you, Grandma D!)

This is the road that leads down to Oro Blanco, the Noon family ranch, which is just a few miles from the border with Mexico.

This is the ranch house at Oro Blanco.  It was built in the 1800s and there are some amazing stories about this place!

Taking a walk to the pond

Skipping rocks with the cousins at the pond

Playing in the dirt!  (so much fun!)

Trying our first banana

Not sure if I like it

Jury's out

Then we head to Andy's great-grandparents' ranch, Grantham Ranch

Love this road leading to the ranch (it's awesome for those of us who suffer from motion sickness)

Gorgeous views of the desert

Emma helped wake Ava Grace up from her nap

Cutie pie cousins!

A few of the local hangouts as we head back to Tucson

We are thrilled that Ava Grace got to meet so many family members and experience such wonderful traditions and culture this Thanksgiving.  We are already excited for our next trip to the desert!!!
