Visitor

I only took pictures of this guy because I thought it was funny that we had one on our doorstep so soon after my sis-in-law posted about their visitor. I've actually seen a lot of these around our house lately. They are cool bugs, but a little bit creepy looking if you ask me. The girls loved him and wanted to keep him. Uummm. . . NO.

Where's Mieley?

Well if I would of known that Mieley would of been just as happy sleeping underneath her crib rather than in it, we could of saved a lot of money on the bunk beds. :) Last night I found Mieley sleeping soundly underneath her bunk bed again. Atleast it didn't take me long to find her, unlike last time!

Need some attention?

I just had to post this one. I stole this off my sister -in- law's blog because it rings so true! This seems to always happen around bed time or when I'm trying to have a decent conversation on the phone.

(Mute the music at the bottom to hear the audio)

New Furniture

Finally they came! I ordered these way back in July and we just barely got them set up on Saturday. The girls are so excited:

Bunk beds! We're really excited with these beds. I thought it would give us more space in their room, but since they're a twin bed over a full bed, they take up a lot of room. Poor Mieley has been sleeping in the crib until now. She has so much space now! She went from a crib mattress to a full size bed. Big bed, little girl. Now she just needs to get used to not having bars anymore - she's fallen out of bed a few times! Funny side story - I went to bed Sunday night and woke up to Adam turning on the lights everywhere and looking around. I asked him what he was looking for, and he said Mieley. I shot up straight out of bed and asked, "What do you mean Mieley??" Adam said, "We'll she's missing." So we hunted around the house to find her. Where did we find her finally? - underneath the bottom bunk bed, hidden and fast asleep. We think she fell off her bed and then just rolled under the bed and went right back to sleep. Silly girl! Adam and I couldn't stop laughing!

We barely got these set up and then had to move all our downstairs furniture out of the way because we had a carpet cleaner come early Monday morning. I tried to talk Adam into getting a new couch - moving the old one out and moving a new one in - but that didn't work. One new piece of furniture at a time.

Yellowstone

We went to Yellowstone National Park yesterday with Adam's parents. The girls loved it! I hadn't been there since Adam and I were dating, so it was fun to see everything again. Adalyn was really confused that there was never a yellow stone though!

Mieley with a little bit of a concerned look on her face.

Here's at the Firehole swimming area. Mieley had her pants off in a couple minutes and was ready to play in the water. Adalyn took some persuasion, but all the sudden decided to follow Adam and Mieley into the water with her pants and shoes and socks still on! Adam got her out quickly and soon she was stripped down too to throw rocks and play for awhile.

Mieley and Adam watching Old Faithful.

Adalyn got a HUGE ice cream cone a couple minutes before Old Faithful went off, so she sat down right in the middle of the boardwalk and watched the geyser while enjoying her ice cream. Oh the joys of being a kid.

Luckily for Mieley, when Adalyn had to make an emergency potty break, it left that huge ice cream cone unattended and Mieley got to enjoy the rest of the cone.

Adalyn was super excited to see these buffalo up close. There were tons on the side of the road.

Mieley thought the buffalo were pretty neat herself.

Can you say cheese?

And check out these cool trees that were behind us in the family picture. They're so cool looking!

The girls with the grandparents. Doesn't get much better than this.

It'll be fun to go again another year!

Hello Jello

These are the jello apples. They taste better than they look. There's no secret trick to them and they are super easy to do. I was told to first pre-treat your cut apples in a salt-water bath and then dip them in the jello powder. I tried that, and it just made a mess out of the powder and some of the apples got covered with WAY to much jello. So next time I tried putting the apples in a bag with the jello powder and shaking them. Same thing, big mess. So here's what I do and it works great.

I used a apple peeler/slicer/corer and it saves so much time. If you're doing a lot of apples, I definitely recommend one of these babies. They're wonderful!

Then, I put them in a salt water bath for a minute or so and then lay the apple slices on the dehydrator trays. After I had all the apples on, I took the jello powder and sprinkled it on top. This way the powder doesn't get all goopy, and it left just enough flavor on the apples.

We've now tried strawberry, raspberry, lime, and lemon jello. Our favorites have been the strawberry and raspberry, but the lemon was good too. The lime. . .well if you really, really like tart things go for it.

Just be careful how many of these you eat. I've had a belly ache for two days and I know it's from the mounds and mounds of apple slices I've eaten!

Fruit Galore!

So how's this for a scowl? I swear my mom used to give me looks like that too when I was younger. (ha ha mom!)

Addy actually was really was happy this day and asked me to take pictures of her with her pink fuzzy hat on that she adores. She's so into dressing up.

One other funny conversation from Adalyn at bed time the other day:

Adalyn: "Mom, can I get some water?"

Me: "I don't know, we'll see if you stay in bed."

Adalyn: "But MOM, I'm sooooo drinky!"

She just cracks me up.

Lately, I've just been dehydrating peaches and apples like crazy. I've never been much of a "canning" person, even though I've had multiple offers from both my mother and sister Jandy to help me. I know, I know, call me a slacker. However, this past week I bought a box of peaches and picked a box of apples and knew that I had to do something with them fast before they all went bad. When I was out picking the apples, the lady we picked them from gave us some apples she had sprinkled jello powder on and then dehydrated them. They were yummy! So that's what I've pretty much been doing for the last week. Cutting up apples (thanks Jandy for the tip of the apple corer/slicer/peeler - that's a life saver!!!), and slicing peaches. The girls love the jello apples, not so much the peaches.

In other news, Adam and I got called to teach the 7 year olds in primary. I'm excited. I'd rather do this any day than teach Sunday School or Relief Society (quick! I need to knock on wood!). We start on September 21st. This Saturday we may head to an air show near Boise. We went to this air show a few years back and it was awesome. We'll see if we really go or not, but it's something to look forward to.

I Did It!

Can I get a Woohoo?!?! I finished my fourth (and final until probably next summer) 1/2 marathon last Saturday. This race was in Pocatello, ID.

Of course I wanted to beat my best time, but no such luck. I must say at about mile 9, I was 7 minutes. . .7 MINUTES ahead of schedule to where I needed to be to get a better time, but my body had a total shut down right after mile 10. I think the conversation with my body went something like this.

My body: "Ouch! Cramp! Ooohh, that hurts. Stop! Walk! Now!"
My brain: "Quiet! You're fine! Only 3 more miles. You can do it."
My body: "No! Stop now!"
My brain: "No! Gotta keep moving."
My body: "Why are you torturing yourself? You've already done 3 races. Who really cares if you finish 5 minutes slower than you want to. Does it really matter?"
My brain: "Yes, it matters. Define yourself. Don't be weak."
My body: "You're so tired. Just walk, just walk, just walk. Just for a minute."
My brain: "Crap . . I'm walking."

And so in a moment's time, I started walking and couldn't really get back to a good jog the rest of the three miles. I didn't do horrible, but not my greatest either. But I must say I am proud of myself for doing two 1/2 marathons two Saturday's in a row and four 1/2 marathons in one summer. And yes, I do talk to myself a lot while running.

My stats:

Time: 2 hours 10 minutes 15 seconds
116th place (out of 213) for all runners, male and female
45th place (out of 123) for all female 1/2 marathon runners
12th place (out of 25) for my age division: Women 25 - 29

I don't have any pictures running, but hopefully I can get one off the Pocatello marathon website when they post them. Here's my cutie patootie girlies wearing my racing shirt and medal. And the lovely background is the dreaded treadmill.

Saturday night and Sunday day we went to Palisades to visit Adam's family who were camping up there. Saturday was nice, but by the time we got up there Sunday the thunder clouds and rain had moved in. So we mostly drove through the mountains, which is always nice and a good reminder of the beauty on this earth. Monday day started out wonderful, but by that afternoon I was so sick. I stayed on the couch all yesterday (thankfully Adam's dad rescued me and came and got the girls for the day - THANK YOU!) and tried not to move too much. Today is a much, much better day. By tomorrow, I should be back to 100%. I hate getting sick. So not fun.

And one last thing! Congrats to my brother and sis-in-law MARDIE for their new beautiful baby girl born August 30th! I'm so happy for them and can't wait to meet my newest niece. Love you guys!
