Back again

I didn’t realize just how much time has passed since I posted here. So many life changes. Might be a good time for me to return and restart. 

The way it was

This is quite touching. I feel some connection to these individuals. A look into how mental illness / emotional struggles were treated many years ago.  Well, actually not too long ago. It appears that some of these people were grieving the loss of a loved one, while others had been struggling emotionally with other issues for extended periods of time. Perhaps some people were considered "too different" by the rest of society. 

On another note, at one time lobotomies were considered an alternative for various problems. I watched an amazing documentary about Dr. Walter Freeman, the man who is considered "the Father of Lobotomy." If you can find the documentary, please take a look. One young man, about 12-years-old, was given a lobotomy because his stepmother thought he was too difficult to control.

The flowers

I'd forgotten about this for quite a while.  An artist filled a mental hospital with flowers before its closing.  Both funeral and rebirth.  Brings up relief and sadness in me to realize that someone wants to honor a place of such pain with beauty.

I bought both of these at SuperTarget.  "Scarface" was $15 and "Bob" was $5.  Quite a deal.  I will not allow the gerbils to watch many movies and, oh, "Scarface" is one of those.  However "What about Bob?" is fine.

I have a room that I use (or hope to use) for creating and reading and putting jigsaw puzzles together.  Progress was made today and I spent some time looking through my book collection.  These are some of the art books I own.

From the crypt

My mom is sending boxes of my old belongings to me so that she can make room for herself.  Really fun to look through these things.  I was a sticker and collectible eraser nut back in the '80s.  Here's a sample.  My vintage Mrs. Grossman's Sticker Idea Book.  I'll be posting photos of more stuff.  I'd be curious to know if there's anyone else out there remembers these sticker books.
