clearly collaborating with MICHAEL YONKERS and JOHN REIS have rubbed off on the BLIND SHAKE, but there's SOMETHING UNIQUE to their droned out lysergic two guitar/one drummer attack on psych / punk / garage that makes "BREAKFAST OF FAILURES" is a SERIOUSLY GO-TO RECORD!!!!!!!!!  could be their love for AMREP vitriol, NUGGETS fuzz and obscuro punk oddities that shines through this supercharged set of new songs, or it could be that these guys are some of the hardest working, creative rock n rollers around.....  cuz it certainly shows on their new lp.....

i was way stoked that SHOVE RECORDS reissued the 87 ep PUSSY GOLD 5000 by my fave noise punks PUSSY GALORE this year for RECORD STORE DAY........so now i finally have a copy to blast out my windows and the annoy the neighbors with!!!!!!!!!

2013 has been a fucking killer year for music, especially with an onslaught of amazing new bands that appear out of nowhere every day!  one such band i've been meaning to post about all year is memphis' new garage punk miscreants, MANATEEES!!!!!!   and everytime i was just about write about them i found out they were releasing yet another down n dirty single for yet another of my favorite record labels....  so i guess we'll cover them all right now, cuz you need to hear them yesterday!!!!!!

this year MANATEEES have released fucking MUST OWN 7 INCHES on PELICAN POW WOW, GONER, TIC TAC TOTALLY and JKSHK....  all of them blown out, drunken, thrashy punk like i can never get enough of.....   and as far as i'm concerned they might just be THE BAND TO SEE LIVE if yer ever in memphis....certainly they keep the city's longstanding tradition of unruly punk chaos alive.....

so if yer a junkie for BUCK BILOXI & THE FUCKS, TRUE SONS OF THUNDER, THE OBLIVIANS, REATARDS, GOLDEN PELICANS, PAMPERS, FOSTER CARE, GARY WRONG GROUP and anything on GONER / TOTAL PUNK / PELICAN POW WOW / CRYPT / JKSHK RECORDS, YOU FUCKING NEED TO INTRODUCE YERSELF TO YER NEW FAVORITE GO TO BAND!!!!!!!

RUNNING fucking smash hardcore, noise and post punk into one squalling wall of PSYCHEDELIC ENTRANCING FEEDBACK quite unlike anyone else.....think lighting bolt, clockcleaner, the fall, christian death, monoshock, coachwhips and unholy two all rolled into one furious malevolent firebomb of punk rock....but that still might be far from describing the screeching delinquency found on VAGUELY ETHIC....... just know, one listen and yer never gonna be able to live life the same.........

it's 2013 and we have another CHROME CRANKS album to throw on our turntables !!!!!! yes!!!!!!!! after last year's excellent reunion album AIN'T NO LIES IN BLOOD, CHROME CRANKS have released a new tour EP / demos LP titled MOON IN THE MOUNTAIN and as with anything CHROME CRANKS related, it's hands down recommended......

the title track is a side long epic snarl of swampy garage punk noise taken from the AIN'T NO LIES IN BLOOD sessions and the B SIDE is comprised of five tracks recorded during a PEEL SESSION in '95, when the CHROME CRANKS' were at their fiercest, most raw and unruly part of their short lived heyday........  though not really a new full length album or much new material, MOON IN THE MOUNTAIN is still one of the most intense and rockin lps you can get your hands on right now, cuz no one plays garage punk this unhinged and explosive as the CHROME CRANKS........

maybe this new ep will finally cement their place with the greats, like PUSSY GALORE, the SCIENTISTS, feedtime and the CHEATER SLICKS, where they've always belonged........

action swingers - miserable life 7in

the newest single from TOTAL PUNK RECORDS is by none other than legendary dirge punk delinquents, ACTION SWINGERS.......the 7 inch MISERABLE LIFE B/W LOSING MY COOL is two trashy as fuck noise soaked garage punk stompers that are a more necessary addition to yer rowdy record collection......

formed in the same garbage crusted alleys in NYC as PUSSY GALORE, CHROME CRANKS, HONEYMOON KILLERS and SONIC YOUTH, ACTION SWINGERS slashed and burned rock n roll like no one else in the early 90s......

you might compare them to FLIPPER, CHEATER SLICKS, ROYAL TRUX and/or the BEGUILED, but the Action Swinger's shit storm of noisy garage is much more explosive, vitriolic, in yer face and fun than any of those aforementioned bands.....the mastermind/vocalist/guitarist behind Action Swingers, NED HAYDEN, was joined at times by members from bands like Pussy Galore, Sonic Youth, Unsane and A Bones to complete his unique, angsty vision of demented feedback jacked punk......lending them a sort of all star lineup of noise junkie guitar mangling rock n roll status.....which they certainly lived up to.....  

this 7 inch is from the early more off kilter version of the band which features Julia Cafritz, Johann Kugelberg and a one J Mascis on drums for the B side of this fucking thrashy unhinged raucous single. Action Swingers' gutter blues meets noise punk scrap heap ought to have cemented their reputation as cult rock heroes, but alas they've slithered back into obscurity until now........

but thanks to TOTAL PUNK, we have two lost songs from the Action Swingers resurrected from their short and mean existence...... both of these songs were released on the b-sides comp QUIT WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD in 1994, and never on vinyl.  so MISERABLE LIFE is cause for celebration...... and certainly since this is the only ACTION SWINGERS music that's still in print.......

this is so very very recommended, and i hope this isn't the first and last installment of reissue love for the ACTION SWINGERS, cuz this is CLASSIC AS FUCK NOISE PUNK.......

Those who like their punk Back From The Grave, scratched up with feedback and menacing as fuck need to introduce yourself to Hank Wood And The Hammerheads now.  i'm glad some young new yorkers are taking up their no wave / noise punk heritage and playing some of the best IN YER FACE FUCK YOU GARAGE PUNK SCREE AROUND.........

highly fucking recommended.  everyone who heard this lp when it came out, put GO HOME on the year end best of list......seriously it's that good.  just wish i was quicker on the uptake here cuz i'll be spinning HANK WOOD AND THE HAMMERHEADS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN AT FULL VOLUME........

so the wait is almost over........a new HEAVY TIMES lp is just about here....... brought to us by my favorite noise mongers HOZAC RECORDS of course.......   and since they know we need a fix soon, hozac has given us junkies a little teaser in the form of a new banging 7 inch from HEAVY TIMES entitled I'M SINGLE...... both their previous albums, DEAD on ROTTED TOOTH and JACKER on HOZAC, thrashed their way into my top of the year lists, and if this single is any indication, HEAVY TIMES' forthcoming noise popped drunk punk album is gonna make that list too........

I'M SINGLE is three new tracks all worthy of the A side stamp...... what more could you ask for than a couple more fuzz coated melodies slamming into yer brain with this kinda punk rock fury????? and man oh man does HEAVY TIMES deliver.....their mix of punk, noise and post punk is so infectious that I'M SINGLE won't leave your turntable for quite some time.......
