Yesterday Audrey says to me, "Mommy, I am four years old, my favorite animal is a kitty cat, my favorite number is 11 and my favorite color is pink." I think she told me. Few other things but now I can't remember. Ask if you get a chance!

Five Years Old!
I was really handling Jocelyn's birthday very well. I was not emotional at all, thinking having her turn five would be super easy. Then we hosted her birthday party with 13 little preschool friends. Then Tim took a day off work so we could clean out the basement, which allowed me to reminisce about the early days of being a mom and seeing lots of baby toys that haven't made it out of storage since we moved three years ago. And then....BOOM...I put my four-year-old to bed for the last time and, the next morning, my BABY woke up as a five year old. My last little one to celebrate her 'Whole Hand
Birthday'! Bring on the waterworks.
Jocelyn woke us up with a fun request, "Put on the news mommy! We have to see what the groundhog says!" Finally! Someone in our house will remember if seeing the groundhog seeing his shadow means six more weeks of winter or vice versa! :)
Now that Audrey and Drew are both in school full time, Jocelyn is my little sidekick, keeping me busy and on my toes, but also keeping me company at we run our errands, etc. Why is it that when it's finally easy and enjoyable to have your kids in the store with you, it's almost time for them to leave you and head off to school?! It's just not fair! We have our own routine on the days she is home with me and it usually includes a trip to the grocery store or Target or any other errands I've saved up for our day together. She is a good helper and has been using Drew's booster in the car for our short trips around town since it is easier for her to get in and out of her seat belt. Today, on her birthday, I let her have her last ride in her five-point harness and exchanged it for the high backed booster. Of course, I think she too is struggling with being 'big' and has already asked for her old seat back! :)
Jocelyn is doing really in school this year. When we had a conference at school, her teacher actually said, "We couldn't ask for a better student in preschool." She is quieter at school than at home (apparently) and doesn't speak out of turn. She is a good helper and has been asked to step up when there is a substitute to help her with how the classroom runs. She isn't shy and is a good friend to all the girls in the class. She is in her second year at Mary Queen of Peace and wears an adorable navy jumper uniform plus she now gets out of the car in the carpool lane with Audrey and Drew! They usually walk her in, but she has no problem hopping out like a big kid. She still naps every day and still asks for a nap when she is tired. Every now and again we have to skip the nap, but then she is so tired and cranky! This is exactly why she comes home from school after half a day! She is learning so much and can identify and say every letter and seems to enjoy words as much as Audrey did. She is sounding out words and can make her way through the easier BOB books. My first kid to 'read' before kindergarten! I always thought Audrey would, but she just never quite got it, or maybe we were too distracted with babies to really work on it!!
Jocelyn has the same amount of freedom that I gave Jocelyn and wouldn't have considered giving Audrey. When she wants to play with the neighbors, she tells me she's going and will walk over to play with our new friends Lilian and Amelia (MelMel). She plays until I text their mom to send her home unless they've already made their way back here to play for awhile. They love dress up and I will usually find her room in a state of chaos after her friends have left. Clothes are everywhere!
