Eagle Rock

We have been itching to head over the Eagle Rock out in Warner Springs. It’s 6 miles total. With spring break upon us it was the oerfect chance! We got out to the eagle without a problem but Macy wasn’t having it and did NOT want to hike back. So the kids and I trekked over to the road while Tommy took the trails back. But it was beautiful and nice to get out. 

La Brea Tar Pits

In all our years of living in Southern California neither Tommy or I had been to the tar pits! We decided to check it out! It’s about 2 hours from our house so we made it a day trip. Imagine our surprise when we got there and Covid vaccines were required to get in! Anyone over 12! So, we said the kids were all 12 and under. (Which is comical because Jason looks 18.) 

We continued the exploration by driving past the Mann Chinese Theater and seeing the stars on the sidewalk. We checked out the view from the Ghetty Center and Griffith Park. We finished the tour by driving through the neighborhoods below the Hollywood sign. 

Museums!

During the month of February the local museums were all half off! So the Midway with the Hatchers was half off and then a trip to the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla was half off. This was a dad and kids trip. They had a great time. Tommy said that he learned that Wolf Eels are terrifying 😆

Projects

The girls always have Friday off from school. During that “free time” they have weekend projects to do. Lyla recently had to make something to sell on Shark Tank. She made a portable microwave to heat up her lunch at school. She worked really hard to perfect her project and she aced her presentation. I wish I could have been there to watch. 

Macy had a week of celebrating Dr. Seuss. They did a lot of little activities and read many books. On the day of his birthday she woke up and said she wanted crazy hair. So we came up with this. No Pinterest involved!

The kids have their projects and I have mine. Danielle and I did a mini bathroom makeover. I had started with the idea of wallpapering the back wall… and then I thought about putting decals on… and it ended in using sharpie!

Pet Obsession

This cute little dingbat “buries” his bones. Sometimes they are actually hidden under rocks outside and other times they are just under a pillow or in the couch.

We had Hank and Violet here at the same time. They did really great and played each other out!

Knotts Berry Farm

On our last full day with them we went to Knotts Berry Farm! The adults all have memories there as kids but it has been at least 20 years since any of us had been. Macy is still timid when choosing rides. She prefers slow, steady, and predictable. Lyla is middle ground. Jason wants to do them all and then do them again!

While Jason, Tommy, Lyla, and Mia were all on a ride Jason’s phone slipped from his pocket. Luckily for them I had seen something fall. When Jason came off the ride bummed out I was able to guide him right to it! The phone wasn’t broke. Or anything. What a miracle!!

We all went on some rides. The scariest ride I have ever been on was Hang Time. Jason and I did it together and it was crazy! So fun and so scary!

USS Midway

They took a tower tour into the captains bridge. It was really cool. The kids liked sitting in the control seats and trying stuff out. They all “earned their wings” by finishing the scavenger hunt. Jason really liked seeing the planes and helicopters. 

Volleyball

Lyla joined the Ishine Volleyball team for 6th graders. It was a great way to get an introduction to the sport. She had a good time and would do it again.

Annie’s Canyon Trail me

The Hatchers came back!! Big Famoly Reunited!! The first day they were here the dads and kids went to the USS Midway. None of them had been so they all really enjoyed it. The second day we went to Annies Canyon Trail and enjoyed some Pizza Port afterwards. It was more crowded than I had ever seen but it was still worth it! Everyone had fun and even the little girls kept up.
