Halloween - 2007

David and I went to a Halloween party on Saturday with a bunch of our friends. It was so much fun. We were at the OSU game before we went to the party, and didn't have time to change. So we showed up as OSU fans. I happened to have a Diet Coke bottle in my hand, so we became drunk OSU fans by popular demand. I was drunk off of Diet Coke! It was so funny. We had a really good time with our friends. We wound up staying SUPER late talking with our friends Shauna and Jeff, and Shauna's Mom. Her Mom is hillarious! Anyway it was a blast! So, here are two pictures. The first one is us as OSU fans at the beginning of a football game, and the second one is a picture of us at the end of an OSU football game. Hmmm, interesting that I look like I had more fun than David did... Enjoy!

Can't Wait To Be A Mom

I got this quote from LDS Gems in my e-mail the other day and loved it. So, I thought that I would share it with all of you along with my thoughts.

"Being a mother has never been an easy role. Some of the oldest writings in the world admonish us not to forsake the law of our mother, instruct us that a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother, and warn us not to ignore our mother when she is old. (see Proverbs 1:8; 10:1;23:22).

"The scriptures also remind us that what we learn from our mothers comprises our very core values."

I love what these say. The part that warns us "not to ignore our mothers when they are old" stuck out alot to me. My Mom has been a great example of this to me. My Mom's Mother is still alive, and barely hanging on at times. She is blind, and somewhat senile. But, we love her none-the-less. Grandma has sure out put my Mom through alot in the last 4 years since my Grandpa Bailey died. She is extremely dependant on my mother for pretty much everything. My Mom has stuck through most of it. Like any human she has had her times that she wants to give up and say forget it. But she knows better. There are days I am sure that she is helping my Grandma only because that is what Grandpa would appreciate, but I know that deep down every day she does it because she loves her. I am sure the my day will come that I will have to take care of my mother, and my children will have to take care of me. :-) When I read this quote Istarted thinking about Julie B. Becks talk at conference a few weeks ago entitled "Mothers Who Know". Here are just a few bullets from the online copy of it...

* There is eternal influence and power in motherhood.

* Mothers Who Know Bear Children

* Mothers Who Know Honor Sacred Ordinances and Covenants

* Mothers Who Know Are Nurturers

* Mothers Who Know Are Leaders

* Mothers Who Know Are Teachers

* Mothers Who Know Do Less

* Mothers Who Know Stand Strong and Immovable

I love that she gave us this list. I feel that it gives me something to work on. I know that I hope to be a "Mother Who Knows" when my time comes to have children. I hope to be able to bear them up right in the gospel. I hope that I can bear children who know their parents love them and want the best for them. As I read these quotes and talks I get so excited to start a family with David and embark on that wonderful journey of motherhood.

Happy Birthday Chelsey Lynn

Tomorrow, October 15th, my oldest niece, Chelsey Lynn, is turning 15 years old. It is crazy to me. She is Mike's oldest daughter (Mike is my oldest brother for those who don't know). I can still remember the night that I found out he was going to be a Daddy. We were all in my parents bedroom and they told us and all my brother Bryan and I could talk about was that we were going to be an Aunt and an Uncle. We pretty much just liked the idea of having a title. :-) I was SO excited when I found out that she was going to be a girl. I pretty much knew from day one. See, I am the youngest and only girl in my family. I would ALWAYS beg my Mom to have another baby in hopes that it would be a girl. I'm not going to lie, in looking back I am pretty darn glad that I was the youngest now! :-) Anyway, so I always wanted a Sister. So, knowing that I would now have a niece was way exciting. I was only 11 years old when she was born, so it was pretty much like having a sister, just not having to share EVERYTHING! :-) I remember the day she was born I was at school in Green Oaks Elementary school. We had a Jackir Robinson day that was SO much fun! I was playing on the black top when a office aid came out and handed me a note that said, "Chelsey Lynn Boehrer, 10:10 am." I was SO excited. I told me best friend at the time Kim Balog and we jumped up and down. I got to go and see her that day after school, and my brother handed her to me and I fell in love right away!
From day one Chelsey and I were buddies. I loved to babysit her. I remember the first time I got to babysit her by myself I thought it was the COOLEST thing ever. As she got into her toddler ages I love to do her hair and take her everywhere with me. I have always felt a special bond with Chelsey Lynn. I truly believe that she was meant to be a part of our family, and holds a special purpose here on earth.
As I look at her now as she turns 15, I can't help but wish for the best for her, and hope that she not only reaches the potential that she has but exceeds it! She is an amazing person! I look at her with her little sisters and how much they look up to her. I love to spend time with Chelsey. The little time that we get to spend together is awesome. It is great to have such a good open relationship with her. I hope that she knows how much she is loved by me, her Uncle David and the rest of her family.
We are hoping that Chelsey will get to come and stay with us the weekend before Thanksgiving. It would just be one more thing to add to the list. I used to always tell Chelsey that when I get married she will have to come and stay the night with my like I would stay at her house when she was younger. I also promised that when I have babies she will come and stay with me for a week to pay me back for all the times I watched her! :) It sure wasn't hard to get her to agree to that.
So Chelsey, I Love you Poopy! I hope you have a happy birthday and I can't wait to see you soon! :-)

Funny Story... Includes a Fire Truck

I thought that instead of just posting current things on our blog, I could use it to share some funny, interesting, and various things that have happened to David and I since we have been married. So, why not start with one of the more funny ones..
It was a Thursday evening. I had already worked out and David was working until 6:00. This was back when I got off at 3:30 on Thursday (those were GLORIOUS days). I decided that I would have dinner totally ready for David, so when I pick him up and we get home he would be surprised and satisfied because he's always STARVING right after work. We had fajitas on the menu that night, so I was preparing the chicken and all of the veggies. I had veggies in a pot steaming and some of it started to overflow, I caught it before it got too out of hand, thank goodness. So when the veggies were done I turned off the burner put the pan on it with the oil. I then turned the burner on very low to start heating the pan. The pan heated a lot quicker than I had thought, so when I tossed the chicken in, it had produced alot more smoke than I had anticipated. So I opened the door and all of the windows and blinds so as not to trigger the smoke alarm. Clearly I didn't act fast enough, before I knew it the alarm in my apartment was sounding... not a big deal, just fan the smoke away. By this point I had closed the door because I was embarrassed. Mind you, all of my windows and blinds are still open. Suddenly the alarm turns into more of a ring type alarm and a LOT louder! I called my landlord and told her that my alarm was going off and I couldn't stop it. I confirmed to her that everything is okay and there is no fire. She said she would call the fire department to make sure they knew everything was okay. When I hung up the phone, I looked out my window and realized that she didn't get a hold of the fire department in time. We had two big fire trucks in front of our building as well as the Fire Captains truck. Again, let me remind you that my windows and blinds are still open. Well, at this point my whole apartment building is standing on the front lawn hanging out, and many of them walking past our windows to the front lawn. So, imagine if you can, I am ducking behind walls and crawling on the floor to lower the blinds on each of my windows (we had 5 big windows in the front room of that apartment), so as not to be seen by any of the other tenants.
So, now the fire trucks are there, and I walk out of my apartment into the hallway now trying to act as if I am some sort of assistant manager or something and let the firemen in (you have to have an access card or a code). Once in the building they go to the apartment kitty corner to mine because the main box in the front said it was the alarm right outside his apartment that triggered it (my smoke obviously traveled). We go into his apartment and nothing, then they go into mine and smell some smoke. They asked me what I was doing and I explained dinner to them. They chuckle and check a few other areas in the building and come back to the main part where I was. When it was cleared that there is no problem, the chief decides to be a funny guy and says, "Your husband must not eat much if this is you cooking." Ha! Ha! Ha! Funny guy!
Everything ends just in time for me to go and get David from work without being seen leaving out the back door of my apartment building. When I told David the story all he could pretty much do is laugh. However, I must say that the dinner turned out pretty darn good.
Ah yes, this is just one story in many of the excitement in our lives.

My Shoulder Appointment

I went to see the Orthopedic surgeon today for my left shoulder. It has been bothering me a lot lately, aching all the time, and really sore. So I finally gave in and made an appointment with the Dr. for this afternoon. I went in expecting the worst and hoping for the best. And I think that I got the epitome of a happy medium.
The Dr. told me that I have what is called Bursitis. I have an overgrowth of bone that rubs on my tendon and causes it to swell. The exact definition of bursitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) that lies between a tendon and skin, or between a tendon and bone. The condition may be acute or chronic. Fortunately I have an acute condition. It's hurts like a mother of a gun! Of course when I went into the Dr. today it didn't hurt as bad as other days, but he still got the gist of it. So, he told me that I have an overgrowth of bone, and that it's not too serious. He gave me strength exercises to do, and a shot of Cortisone! I would love to say that it is feeling better, but it's just not. My parents have both experienced bursitis, oh and my best friend Lisa. My parents both told me that shot made it feel better, but Lisa was quite the opposite, she said that it continued to hurt like a mother of a gun! So, I'll have to give it time. I have a follow-up appointment on November 16th, so we'll see how it is then! If you are interested here is a link to a site about bursitis:

Ah....Changes!

So, I have a funny story to share. I have been highlighting my hair since I was a Sophomore in High School. Honesty, if it weren't for my roots I wouldn't know what my natural hair color is. David has only ever known me as a "blonde" and it is foreign for him to think of me as a brunette. Well, I decided to make that easier for him. Anyone who has their hair highlighted or colored knows how expensive it is. I mean really, $70.00 every two months for hair is not cheap. Well my roots were getting pretty bad and I didn't want to pay the money for a professional, and last time I tried to highlight my own hair it was really sad. So, I made my way over to Fred Meyer on Tuesday and bought a box of hair color. I didn't want it to be too drastic so I got a "Light Golden Brown" color. I didn't tell David because I wanted to just surprise him, and I knew he had to work late Friday night so I would do it then. Friday night comes along and David heads off to work. I work out for an hour and decide to start in on my hair. All gloved up and ready to go I mix everything up and start applying it to my hair. At first the color doesn't look so dark, but as I am applying it to my hair it's getting darker and darker. I don't get too concerned because I remember that it said on the box that the color of the product does not reflect the color of your hair. So, I finish the application and set my timer for 25 minutes. The box said 25 to 30, but I didn't want to do the whole 30. When the timer goes off I jump into the shower and start to rinse my hair... holy cow, that color is DARK! No worries, I'm sure my hair isn't that dark. I get out of the shower and decide to blow dry my hair. I wanted it to look as good as it could because I didn't want David to see it all messy. While blow drying my hair I realized that it's not so light. It's actually REALLY dark! But, I am lovin' it! My roots aren't obvious at all. I think I might have actually found my natural hair color. I try to stay awake long enough for David to get home and see it, and I just crash.
Now, this morning is where all of the fun comes in. We wake up about 8:30 to watch conference a 9:00. I didn't turn the overhead light on in the bedroom, just my bedside light so I could take notes. I am waiting for David to see my hair but he isn't saying anything. So, I get up to get something during a song and as I come back into the bedroom I flip the switch for the overhead light. Here is what happens... Flip the switch 3...2...1... David says,"Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, what is going on. Whoa! Who are you?: My wife is a blonde. Who are you, what did you do!?!?!?!? I can't sit on this bed with you, you aren't my wife!" All this while he is walking in and out of the room! Oh man, it was the funniest thing I have ever seen. He was so shocked! He finally got over the shock of it and got back on the bed. I kept telling him how everyone that had seen it (I text a picture to a few people while he was freaking out) thought that it was so cute and perfect for winter! So we kind of laughed about it, and for the rest of the morning and afternoon I would catch him just kind of looking at it. Once I had finished working out and showered I did my hair and he realized that he doesn't mind it, it will just take some getting used to. So, we'll see how long it lasts. I love it! It's nice to be all one color again, and mostly my natural color! :) Here are a few pictures for everyone to enjoy!

This is the last picture I have of my natural hair color from Freshmen year Basketball. The other two girls are Lisa Dent (far left) and Sarah Forman (center). My hair was SUPER dark!

This is how blonde my hair was before I colored it last night. This is David and I at OMSI.

And now... the revealing...

Not The Most Attractive Pictures. It's Been A Long Day!

It can't already be...

October!! Where did September go? If time flies when you're having fun, then my life is going to pass before my eyes.
We have been so busy this last month. School started for David, and he is enjoying his classes. It's a little different this semester than others for a number of reason.
1) Now, on top of his classes, he has a job that requires alot of his time and energy, on and off the clock.
2) No more fun classes, it's all about core classes now.
3) 3 more semesters and he's DONE!
It is crazy that he is actually almost done. When we got married, I knew he had two years left and didn't really think anything of it. Now, it's weird to think of. The only life we have ever really had together has been here in Corvallis, as a broke college newlywed couple. And this time next year, if all goes well, we'll be living somewhere other than here (hopefully), and I'll be at home with a brand new baby or pregnant, while David is working! AGH! Insane to think of! Kind of scary to enter a life we've never known. I guess that's marriage though, full of unknowns! And we love every minute of it!
September was not so eventful for me. Pretty much the same old stuff. My job is going really well. I am learning everything quickly and every day am gaining more responsibility. It's nice to know that they trust me enough to give me more! :-) Then, there are the days when I wish that I could be so unreliable that they don't give me anything! Oh well!
The highlight of our month was at the very beginning when we go to go to California for our niece Taylor's blessing, and we also got to be there for our niece Cali's 1st birthday! It was so much fun. We drove down on a Friday and had a surprisingly good time in the car. I say surprisingly because if you know me, you know that I am not a good car traveler. But, I am getting better. And, I just read the August e-mail and realized that I explained it all in that one, so refer to August for the rest of the story! :-)
We are looking forward to this month. With football season in full swing we are both enjoying the weekend games. I am even enjoying them some, to a point. I will watch them with David, and eventually migrate to the bedroom to read or watch something else. But I try! Last weekend I was in bed all weekend with a bad cold. David went to the game and I remember thinking to myself, "Yes, I can watch whatever I want." So, what do I watch... "The Beaver game because it was broadcast on television." Oh well! I was glad to watch it, even though it ended in a terrible loss. Sunday I didn't make it to church, so David went alone. When he got home, I was on the couch and we started watching the Seahawks vs. Niners game. I was born and bread a Niner fan, marrying a Seahawk fan almost resulted in disownment! Not really, but sure makes it interesting when they play each other. While lying on the couch David asked me if I wanted him to go and get my Niners shirt for me so I could wear it. I said, "No thanks, they'll win whether I wear it or not." I should have worn the shirt! Oh well!
As for the rest of life, it is great. We are excited for Conferece this weekend. We have the BYU channel on our cable now, so we are having some friends over to watch it and make breakfast. They best part of conference is the pajamas. :-) I love to take notes and just soak it all in! One of our friends that is coming has a little baby named Madeline. Oh, she is SO cute and David can't let her go. He loves to just sit with her and hang out. They are pretty much buddies. We have another couple coming over who's baby is about a month old now, so I don't know what David is going to do with two babies to choose from. I have attached a picture of David hanging out with Madeline one evening when we babysay. :-) They are so cute.

Well, we hope that everyone is doing well. The rains have started here in Corvallis, so hopefully wherever you all are it's beautiful! If not, rain and snow can't be that bad! :-) We love you all and can't wait to hear from you soon!
Love,
Jenn and David
