I hope to share my little ups and downs though life in a small town with hopes and dreams of the country life. With that I have learned to bloom where you are planted.

IT"S ME!

I'm Henrietta! You met my sister the other day so I thought you should meet me. You see she is the hefty one, okay fuffier one. Everyone wonder how you tells us apart but don't worry Mom knows. She really does know everything about us.

I do have one problem with Mom. I heard her talking the other day about getting a couple more chicks. My goodness does she realize her luck with getting roosters instead of hens. Then we will have to go on a search for good homes for those boys. You see we live in town. Yes, my little town does allow roosters but I have a neighbor that complains. Mom always say they have a beautiful voice. Too bad the neighbor doesn't agree. So to keep piece in the neighborhood the boys must go.

Hey Mom, instead of sitting there at the computer come let us out of our coop. We so enjoy pecking around in the yard all day. I promise Mom will introduce you to my sisters at a later date. Until then, cluck, cluck!

LET ME INTRODUCE

Hi there,
My names is Patronella, yes you see that correct. But let me make it simple, just call me Nellie. You see I was named after an Aunt who lived in Iowa. So it must be a mid west name. I am suppose to be a bantam but I think maybe a big rooster snuck into the hen house. So I'm a in between! I have a sister who looks alot like me but I seem to be fluffier. No not fatter, okay, got it!!!! I am a great layer sometimes two a day, you know that is work.

This picture doesn't show off my pretty fluffy feet, but they are pretty cute. They may get a little dirty with the wet weather but I do clean up petty good. I love that every morning I get let out of the coop along with the other hens. We spend the day pecking around and finding all kinds of treats. Then come dust we cozy up in our hen house to keep us safe for the night.

One of these day you will meet my sister and my other friends. Until then, keep clucking away!
Nellie

WEEKEND

What a busy weekend. I went to the coast for various reasons, memorial, 90th birthday party and visiting pesky brother. It was a weekend with sadness saying good bye to an old family friend but also happy celebrating a 90th birthday party of one of the sweetest ladies I had the privilege knowing. She has been a family friend before I was out of diapers. So you can see a long time.

I also got to sneak away for a drive to some of my favorite spots. Saturday would have been the day to drive out to the ocean with the sun shining but at the coast wait two seconds and the weather will change. So on Sunday morning it was quite the opposite. Windy and rainy but still enjoyable. It is always so calming watching the waves.
The last picture is the bay just inside from the ocean. A great place to go crabbing, YUM

It is Monday and I'm wondering what this week will hold. I have no special plans but to go to work and go home. So I'm exciting what I can find to get into!!!

Enjoy - June

Look What I Found

After work yesterday I went for a walk around my yard and guess what I found? It sure seem a little early for then to be popping their heads above ground. But it is so exciting to think I might have a bloom or two coming.
Look close they are really there!

Pretty short stem daffodils, think they have their timing off.

Now these cocuses will show bloom soon.

As I was walking and checking out how everything has wintered over, I noticed the sky. I didn't want to take a picture from the yard because of houses blocking the view. So my boots were make for walking and I headed to the edge of town. Only a few blocks away. I tried to capture the colors but I must have been a slow walker since the color in the sky wasn't as vibrant. But still wanted to share.

It was so nice to be outside and have a little time after work before it got dark. I am so looking forward to longer daylight. Just picks the spirts up!! Here wishing another day of sunshine!

Smile for it is contagious! June

Still Dreaming of Sunshine and Wanting to go Back!

I have had such a bad case of Spring Fever that all I think about is sunshine and warmth. Last spring I was a lucky gal for I got to tag along with my son and daughter-in-law to the beautiful island of Roatan. Up until there trip planning I had never heard of the island off on Honduras. So for the next few pictures I will reminisce and feel the warmth.

The beach at our resort!

Playing with the monkeys!

A gorgeous sunset every night!

Saying Goodbye and hoping to return Someday!

Just posting these pictures I can close my eyes and feel the warmth of the sun, hear the water, and the laughter of the islanders. They are so friendly and willing to help you. I sure hope I get a chance to return. But then that makes me think of all the other places I want to visit and explore. And some are right here in my State. Hummmmmm,, maybe a road trip coming up. I will take my camera and share!

Enjoy - June

What is White Wednesday?

I see all these blogs that refer to white Wednesday and wonder why. Did someone out there in blog land just come up with the idea on Wednesday to post something white? Or is there some more significant meaning? Anyway I decided to keep with that trend and also I'm still on flowers and spring fever. Now if the weather was colder, wetter or down right snowy I might not have this fever. We have been having very mild weather. So here is my white Wednesday picture.

A bouquet of white peonies and irises.

I never made it to the store to get cut flowers for my house last night so I will be happy with posting bouquets from my yard - of course last year. I have been looking for a flower arranging class at our local community college but they don't offer it. I sure wish I could find one, I think it would be fun!! Plus it would improve my skill since I don't have any.

It's off to that opportunity that pays the bills - WORK! Enjoy your day, June

Spring Fever Already

How can it be??? It is only mid January and I'm wanting to dig out in the yard. I think when I retire I will have to head south for a few months. Maybe sunshine and warmth will help with this fever. I stopped at the local feed store to get chicken crumble and they have all their flower and vegetable seed packets out. It was hard to resist. It's dream time!!!

I want to drive the back roads with the top down!

This little car of mine is so much fun in the summertime. But it just stays warm and cozy in the garage during the winter months. And do the grand kids love to go for rides with the top down!

I want flowers blooming!

Maybe I just need to buy me some flowers for in the house. It might pick up the gray days we are having here in Oregon. Flowers that I pick from my yard always make me feel good.

Learn to live with what you have and your journey will be lighter. Be thankful and bless each day. Enjoy - June

Weekend Off

Where did the weekend go? I guess I crammed many fun activities in that time just flew. Saturday started off with watching grandsons at a wrestling tournament. Then it was lunch with old friend from where I use to live and I joined them for the musical Xanadu in downtown Portland. I think that is how you spell the 80's movie. I remember going to see it back them but only remember Olivia Newton John on roller skates. It was very enjoyable as a musical and now I can put the story together. Sunday I found myself at a friends home for brunch. She wanted to try out a new recipe. I think she has been inspired by the movie Julie & Julia. She is trying to cook her way through many recipes of her cookbook collection. The food was wonderful and the company even better. We sat and visited into mid afternoon. I love staying connected with high school friends. So there was no housework, laundry, or creative project. Sometimes it is just fun to take a weekend off.

Why

Why did I have a desire to make my own blog? This is a question I've thought a lot about. First I so enjoyed reading every ones blogs. Many of the blogs I read are very talented gals. So many of then create wonder art, re-create, paint, sculpt and the list goes on. But I have decided this blog is for me to write about my journey. It is a place I can write about things I enjoy and my little world that I have around me. So one of the first things that come to mind of thing I enjoy is sewing. I was so young when I learned I don't remember learning to sewing. Today I find my time so limited a few aprons for gifts and even one for me. Lilly Apron by Busy Bee Patterns.

Of course flannel night gowns & pj's for Christmas.

A few flannel rag quilts and pot holders is about all I do now. I remember the year I sewed three complete weddings; bridal gown, bridesmaid dresses and flower girl. Those were crazy times and way to stressful since I worked full time. I am also a procrastinator about sewing. I have so many unfinished projects that are in the someday pile. I keep that pile hidden!!

I still have my dreams and truly believe this little blog will help me make some of them reality. And here I thought I wouldn't be writing more then a one paragraph blog!

Meet the Queen of the House

Well maybe! She is telling me she is way over due for her beautification treatment. So I am sharing the sad before and later I will share the true Queen or actually Princess Jasmine better know as Jazi. I went for about 10 years without having a dog. I really wanted a Berner but my oldest son has asthma and dog allergies and they are big dogs! Even though he is grown and has he own home and family. I wanted a dog that he could tolerate when visiting. I knew poodles were one of my choices. So for many months I watched the Humane Society for one to become available. So Jazi is my pound puppy who came to live with me about 5 years ago. She does have many names depending on what trouble she has gotten into. She is also great buds with my chicken - a latter post.

Sleepy Head

Have you ever had one of those morning where you just wanted to stay snuggled in. Well this was my morning. It isn't cold outside or rainy for that matter. The peepers just didn't want to open. Maybe it is the quilt my sister made and I was the lucky one to receive it. Now I'm not great at taking pictures but hopefully I will improve. The shams are still a work in progress but I just love it. I stacked old suitcases on the dresser for some heights but after looking at this picture they are a little to large for the space. So guess what? Rearranging again!
It time to get one more cup of coffee before that opportunity (lol) that affords me to pay my bills. Have a blessed day! June

Oh my, remember the macadamia coconut cake I baked yesterday. I forgot to take a picture of it and there is not a crumb left. It was so delicious and one to try again.

I was on my favorite blog this morning and had so much fun looking at all the different chickens there are in this world. I only have five girls, Patronella - Nellie for short, Henrietta, Gertrude - Gertie, Mattie & Henderine. What some name, huh? They were my five Aunts who are no longer with us but over the years I so enjoyed there names. My Aunt Mattie raise chickens. When we travel back to Iowa I couldn't wait to go gather eggs with her. Maybe this is where I always had a desire to own a few chickens. I built my hens house out of old siding from my house so it is what it is.
Look at the time! It is off to another day at my job. Here is one of my dreams to live in the country with a few more critters and be able to tend to them daily. But reality set in and best get moving, my co-workers wouldn't want me to show up in my pj's.
Enjoy June

The First

Here goes a whole new world for me to explore. I have been an avid blogger stalker as I call it for two years. I have been scared to death to start one of my own. I was thinking I have nothing to say, I lead a pretty boring life with going to work and home. But then a dear blogger who I have followed gave me the courage to start and she doesn't even know that. You will find many spelling errors and grammar errors as I continue. Oh well my English teachers knew me well in school.

I have three grown children with families of there own. I'm sure as my blog continues you will meet everyone of them. But it is those seven grandchildren who provide me with great love and entertainment. And let's not forget my five hens and one dog who also provide entertainment. Plus fresh eggs!

Some of my hobbies are sewing, knitting, crafting, gardening, junking and the list could go on. I think I get bored easily so I hope from one activity to the other.

I just finished baking a Macadamia Coconut Cake this morning. I found the recipe on the Internet and I am taking it to a Hawaiian theme potluck this afternoon. Nothing like having my potluck gals be the first to try. I am so blessed to have a circle of friends who gather once a month for good food, visiting and wine. Yesterday, I baked whole wheat bread from scratch. This is a first in a long time. I think as I try to live a more eco friendly and healthier lifed style I am going back to my growing up roots. As a child we always had a garden, freash homemade bread. I can't ever remember a "supper" out of a box.

Best close for my first attempt at blogging. Thank you Bee Haven Acres for the courage!
