This is going to be long, so buckle up. I love shoes. I especially love high heeled pointy shoes. I won't tell you how many of these beauties I currently have sitting in my closet, but it's between 22 and 24. Some of my shoes are only 3 hour shoes, so I can only bust them out on Sunday. And last night, I learned that one of the prettiest pairs is only a half hour shoe. Boo! But certain pairs will last me all day and then some, so I end up wearing them a lot. Allow me to introduce one of my favorites:

The heel is high but not too high, they have a nice amount of padding inside, and they are shiny! So I wear them to work pretty much every day. Imagine my utter chagrin when the heel started to pull away from the base of the shoe. I am absolutely not opposed to buying a new pair, but these are my babies! So I set out to find a cobbler/shoe repair artist who could lovingly restore them to their glory. In my head, I pictured a man who looks like Gepetto, twirling around his store, anxiously waiting to repair my shoes.
I had a few shops recommended to me, but most of them closed before I get home from work. So I had to pick between two shops that were open late: Milt's, and Lucky Sole. I knew nothing about either place so I was reading some reviews online, and sure enough, Milt's had a bad review. So Lucky Sole it was! Plus, Lucky Sole is such a pithy name, how could I go wrong? And, this store is located in Lehi, so I thought it would be perfect for me to drop them off on my way home from work. Did I mention this shop is in Lehi? That should have been the first red flag.
I go in to drop off my pretty shoes, and am greeted by rows and rows of men's boots. What I was not greeted by was any employee who would help me. Red flag #2. Finally the owner stops talking to his friend, sighs, and asks what I want. Not only was he not wearing lederhosen like Gepetto, but was clad in a leather vest and cowboy boots. Yeah, he's going to know what to do with a high heel. I show him my shoe with its simple repair, and he picks it up like he has never seen a high heel before. He says that it looks like it will be a very difficult repair, and asks if I like to shop since I will likely have to buy a new pair of shoes. Red flag #3. I should have grabbed my shoes at that point and run away, but it was too late. So he takes my shoe, rips out the lining while I'm standing there, and starts poking at the heel from the inside. Now I'm no cobbler, but who does that?? He then tells me to come back in a week and he'll "see what he can do," and gives me this ticket:
Fancy, right? That word you can't read is "black," and that is supposed to identify the black shoes that I brought in. I come back the following week, and show him my ticket so I can pick up my shoes. He searches all over and can't find my shoes. He says this is strange because he had clearly written on my ticket that I had brought in a black pair of shoes. Clearly. He finally finds them buried under a pair of boots with who knows what on them, and says that he hasn't started working on them yet, but that he'll hurry and "put them in the machine" while I wait. So he puts them in this old fashioned crank that I swear is used to make horsehoes, and I hear my shoe being crushed. I want to cry. He finally takes them out of the machine after smashing all of the nails inside, and then says that he can't fix them. I was thisclose to stabbing him in the eye with my now mangled heel. Please note the before picture, and this is what I ended up with:
If you can't tell, those are nails sticking straight up. I realize I am partially to blame for dropping my shoes off at a saw mill, but come on! So just to be clear, the name of the shop is Lucky Sole, and I would appreciate it you would all join me in writing nasty reviews on the interweb. If anyone needs me this weekend, I'll be the one in DSW silently weeping while buying a new pair of kicks.
