The Snowman

I built him with laughter
And warm winter smiles.
I built him so tall
You can see him for miles,
And at night the starlight
Makes him glint like a king,
And the moonbeams dance around
As the winter winds sing.

I built him with joy
For Christmas is here.
He's my champion my trophy,
My prize for the year.
And the glow from the snow
Paints him silvery bright,
And my king among snowmen
Glistens snow white.

But spring holds his future
For winter won't last,
And my snowman will melt
To a thing of the past.
But each year for ever
His memory will bring
A crown for his throne
With the snowdrops of spring.

Make Mine Chocolate.

Sadly, unwanted former Easter rabbits are a problem for virtually all rabbit rescues, humane societies, and animal welfare organizations. The goal of the “Make Mine Chocolate!™” campaign is to address the problem at its source: reduce the number of uninformed, impulse purchases by changing the public's attitude towards rabbits.

Why didn't they make a badge/ graphic link for the campaign? It could have had something really cute and effective. I copied their banner to give it something.

Hina Matsuri

Just read a post on Geek Mom Mashup:March 3 is Girls’ Day, so Happy Hina Matsuri! What a great holiday.

From Wikipedia: The Japanese Doll Festival, Hina-matsuri, or Girls' Day, is held on March 3, the third day of the third month. Platforms with a red hi-mōsen are used to display a set of ornamental dolls, hina-ningy, representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period.

PingMag has photos of some dolls and a lot more information about the traditions.

The color of pink symbolizes the day, and a lot of pink colored stuff on the streets reminds me that the season is coming. In department stores, you can see colorful dolls sitting in front of a shining golden folding screen.

St Patrick's Day Cards!

St. Patrick's Day is one of my favourite, under appreciated holidays. My Grandmother was Irish. She and my Aunt Alice and the other sisters were born in County Cork. I've never been there. The holiday is always a special time for me, to think about family and all the stories I heard about Ireland and the old traditions. I always find something green to wear.

I was out grocery hunting today and noticed St. Patrick's Day cards in the store. Not many, it's a small store in a small neighbourhood, but nice to see them out there.

I Like Postcards

I'm writing a post for Lockergnome about postcards. It has evolved to include mail art and letter writing. I found a two good sites for mail art: The Postman Always Rings Twice and Kiyotei's Den.

I found a Journals and Letters group on Flickr that I joined. Another called Letters Lives that I added to the Lockergnome article.

I'm Not Horse Mad

I'm not one of those people who own or ride a horse regularly. I have ridden but not since I was about 16. I'm not someone who puts pictures and drawings of horses on her walls. Though I'm sticking one up here on my blog now.

My Grandmother loved to watch the horses. She was Irish and they are kind of famous for their horses.

Yesterday I watched some equestrian sports on CBC. It started with dressage, then went to the hunting race and then the show jumping. I also like to watch the carriage driving and I may yet get to one of those Faires to watch jousting. Have you ever watched any of those?
