About Vera Bell:

Vera Bell is the author of the time-travel romance trilogy Always & Forever, set in sixteenth-century  Ireland and present-day United States. Book One, Through the Veneer of Time, is her debut novel.  Besides being a writer, she is a wife to her high-school sweetheart, a mother to two teenagers and  one fur baby, a former commercial artist and boutique owner, and a member of the Historical Novel  Society, Women's Fiction Writers Association, and Romance Writers of America. The Lords of Invention is a digitally-painted graphic novel that tells the story of two inventors that takes place just after turn-of-the-previous-century New York. It is a tale of success and failure, achievement and envy, love and death.

The protagonist of this tale is a man named Augustus Scott. He is the inventor of such contraptions as the automentium machine, the electromagtronicon, and the steam-powered automaton. The antagonist is an aspiring inventor named Levi Pickett. Pickett lives in a basement and works a manual-labor job to pay for his menial existence. Unable to sell his ideas and find any other way out of his predicament, he devises a plan to steal Augustus Scott's next great invention. What happens next is not only a battle of strength but a battle of minds.

Trenor is both an artist and a writer. He studied art at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, and writing at the Attic Institute in Portland, Oregon, where he currently resides and where he is a member of the Willamette Writers group.

My Review: 

I chose to read this book because I thought the premise was interesting and it would be something different for my blog. 

I found the book interesting. It was a different way of looking at things. I might try some of the ideas on here but not all of them because they we not all for me. 

In the end this book was not for me. However if you think its something you would like I would say give it a read.

  My review: 

    I was not sure about this book at first but I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did. I enjoyed the story very much and its message. 

    I found the book very easy to read and I think its very managable and age appropriate for the age group that it is geared towards. The font and setup of the book was very nice as well. 

    The illustrations in my view are what make or break a children's book. I think these illustrations were great! They remind me a lot of Seuss and were very colorful. I enjoyed looking at them very much. 

    I would highly recommend this book.

Tales of a Northern California Bumpkin Review

 Today I will be reviewing Tales of a Northern California Bumpkin here on my blog.

Roses still bring pleasant thoughts to mind, with the exception of the feel of thorns a feeling I am familiar with thanks to, of course, Sonny, who pushed me into the old, solid base of the shrub. ~ Dorothy Sis Miller In that quote alone you can experience both the revelry and brilliance of Dorothy's memories along with her sweet sense of humor. Tales of a Country Bumpkin takes the reader on a lovely tour of Dorothy's young life growing up in the Dry Creek area near old Roseville, California. This endearing memoir is filled with delightful stories about a big family full of love, laughter, and a touch of mischief. Through the eyes of little Sis the reader discovers a forgotten life where real bugs became a source of entertainment and hay bales turned into forts. Nothing in Sis surroundings didn't offer some sort of delight for her and brothers and sisters to explore. Whether it was going frogging or discovering the scary wonders of her Grampa's old house, Sis' imagination turned everything into magic. Tales of a Country Bumpkin is a time portal to another era -- a simpler one. It draws readers into the finely described life of children in the 1940s and opens the eyes to a wondrous life filled with family, fun, and adventure. 

My thoughts: 

Having been raised by my Great Grandma, I enjoyed this book very much and could relate to it. My great grandma had the same frist name as the author. I'm not from California nor have I ever been there but I think that is the charm of the story: its universal. 

The book is very short. Its easy to read. Its funny. Its an enjoyable read about an actual person. What more do you need? 

I recommend this book highly. Its a great summer read that you will remember.
