Rock 'N' Roll High School

So as I mentioned yesterday, I had no 10 year high school reunion. I graduated in the spring of 1998 so you would think that this traditional get together would happen in the fall of the 10th year, right? It could probably also be planned for the spring of the 10th year or even the fall of the 9th year since that would have been when we began our final year of high school.

But with only 13 days of the 10th year left, I think I can safely say that my graduation class will not be having a 10 Year Reunion.

How do you feel about an 11 Year Reunion?

Now, to be far to the non-planners of this event I had never considered going to my reunion unless it was held somewhere cool or didn't interfere with other plans I had. Do I want to see people I never talk to? Ehhh...it would be fun(ny) to see some. Do I want to go to an entire night of small talk? "I invented post it notes." Oh hellll no. If I don't talk to the majority of these people anymore, why would I care where they work now and how many kids they have? However, had the evening not messed up something more fun and my sister was willing to go and drink a lot with me, I was so going to go.

I also never volunteered to help plan the event so can I still think it's crazy it's not happening? Well, yes. Partly because if I had planned it, I would have just told everyone to go to a bar at the same time and partly because the SCA of the graduating class traditionally plans the event and I was so not a part of that in 1998.

So why and how was the ball dropped? I've heard some rumors, but I honestly have no idea. Do I care? Yes and no. I'm not exactly heartbroken about not seeing people I was friends with 10 years ago, but I am a fan of tradition and this one seems to have been left back in 1998 with our still new Friends episodes and fear of Y2K.

Something Anything

You know what I'm bad at (don't really answer): updating this blog.

You know what I'm good at (and I'm not talking about what's written in the mens' bathroom): lists.

+ Two weekends ago we went Cabining for Serena's birthday. Except for the unwanted early wake up time, it was better than I expected. And I only say that because close quarters are sometimes not ideal. It worked out, though, and I would venture to say that Serena had a good time, which is most important.

+ This past weekend ended up being great even though it began with no plans at all. Friday night Ali and I hit up Happy Hour (*love*) and were later joined by Brendan and then Serena. I pounded five beers and then we changed location where I had one more. Love me some beer. I had to work the next morning, but really, what's a Saturday shift at work when I am not exhausted?

+ After work I uploaded pictures while waiting to leave for the Wine Party that Nina and Patty were having. The party was so much fun! I love how we started out the evening feeling like adults while discussing the wine and ended with Randi schooling us all on Janet vs Michael Jackson dance moves. Somehow I managed to stay awake until the wee hours of the morning to fully maximize my awesome Saturday night.

+ Sunday was the day I had been looking forward to: my day off. I slept in, shopped a little, relaxed, and then dozed off and on until the game started. I can't believe the Redskins didn't win. I also can't believe the commentator made an opera reference.

+ What else is going on...let' see...Tomorrow we're having sectionals in orchestra and I have not played for two weeks. I usually have very good luck with killing it when I need to, but this time is a little different as my part is beyond difficult because I don't have an A clarinet and don't know anyone who has one for me to borrow.

+ At the moment I am trying to find the perfect picture of me with bangs in order to email a friend to get his opinion. My hair is super long right now and my bangs are about to chin level, but I miss them. What do you think? Just kidding, not that one...how about this one? Ok now for real: what do you think?

+ The last CDs I have purchased are: Kings Of Leon, Eagles Of Death Metal, Goldfrapp, Mark Lanegan, Travis, and Snow Patrol. Given to me were Black Angels and Gutter Twins. #1 on the new Kings Of Leon is amazing.

+ I love that it's finally getting cold out.

Popular

It's been a busy weekend...I mean past five days. I'm a rock star:

  • I went to happy hour with S from work on Wednesday and Serena and S's boyfriend also joined us. I had three beers (I think).
  • I was at happy hour for so long that I decided to hang out so I could go out with B after he was off of work.
  • Thursday was a day off for me and after sleeping in and hanging out at home, I went to finally see Batman with B. I liked it A LOT, of course. After the movie we went to Glory Days Holes where we had a really funny waiter- "READY!?" "MEDIUM!?" "CHECK!?"
  • Friday was typical for me where I worked 9-5:30 and then had a panic attack* about not being able to go home, but not being sure what I would be doing. It ended up being okay because B and I went to Fridays to make our plan of attack for the evening and it turned out to be pretty cray cray.
  • After hanging out at Fridays for awhile we went to Hard Times for a drink and then went to Auld Shabeen's to 'crash' a bachelor party someone had told us about. That turned out to be pretty insane because I was the only girl there with about six guys who were drinking a lot. And I had been drinking a lot. I was a lady, of course, but B did have to save me at the end of the evening. (And not from myself...ifyouknowwhatImean.)
  • Saturday was rrrrough as i was going on about two hours of sleep so I just came home after work and recharged.
  • Today I had planned on relaxing and watching the Redskins play, but I ended up having to go get a new tire put on my car. I was told I had risked it for long enough. Having to do car errands ranks high on my list of "Worst Things Ever" and today was no exception-I had to wait three hours!
  • I was okay for awhile...I really wanted to watch the game so i went to the closest place playing it that wasn't a residence: Applebeas.
  • Applebeas are weird. I am not a fan of them.
  • I am also not a fan of sitting at bars alone, but I did it. It helped that I think I looked kind of snobby**, so no one really bothered me....well, until I was about to pay and a man across the bar offered to buy me a drink. Sweet...and awkward...but I was glad I was already paying and could get out of there.
  • After that excitement, I headed north to meet up with B and J to go to a trial run for the new Blue Ridge Grill in Brambleton. Whoa was that good! We got two appetizers, entrees, two desserts, and three alcoholic drinks each...for free! I highly recommend that place. It was wicked good. We were stuffed when we left, though.
And that brings us to now...and I'm about to hit the hay!

Feeling Yourself Disintegrate

List Form:

  • I can't find my copy of Breaking Dawn. I hope they introduce a new character because I don't like Edward or Jacob....but today I read the synopsis and already know a little of what happens-oops!
  • I had a horrible day at work the other day. I was literally exhausted and it was just too much at one point. My boos helped me out, though. Especially one. <3
  • Me, Terra, Serena, and Ali are going white water rafting this Saturday! I have never been and am uber excited.
  • Ali and I are going to The OC on Sunday! OMG. Beyond excited for that.
  • So You Think You Can Dance ends tonight=/ I'm sad Katee didn't win. I like Joshua and Twitch, but she's the best dancer in my opinion.
  • I am bored with Starbucks. They need to introduce new flavors and smoothies.
  • The Faint CD is a lot of fun.
  • I love salad.
  • Mad Men is the best show on TV now that SYTYCD has ended (congrats, Joshua!), but Gilmore Girls is still the best show ever:)
  • I had chocolate covered blueberries from Maine and they were hella good.
  • Twitter cracks me up. It provides endless entertainment for me.
  • I ate non-fried calamari and it was interesting and GOOD.
  • I have to pack tonight. Gah!

House Of Cards

I've decided to become a professional poker player. Texas Hold 'Em. I'm fairly good, for a beginner, and I think with a few years practice I could make the World Tour.

The Sleep

Man has this past week been tiring. Starting with last Thursday I feel like I've just been trying to catch up on rest and relaxation when I can.

I was out late Thursday and then worked until midnight on Friday. Saturday I got up after just a few hours of sleep to take my parents to the airport. I had two naps that day before it was even 9am! I slept on the way to the airport and then passed out for an hour before work at my sister's apartment. Work that day was a blur.

Despite my tiredness, there were parties to attend. Ali and I headed over to our cousin's graduation party that turned out to be off the hook! They had two kegs for about 30 people and after quickly kicking the 1/4 one, my uncle headed off to pick up another. I was impressed. We had a good time and even caused quite the stir at the beer pong table because we were so good.

Sunday I was off and spent is doing nothing, which I needed to do.

Monday I worked at 7am, which was brutal, as always and that night I didn't get much sleep again! I was worried for Tuesday because I 1) worked at 7am again and 2) had tickets to see The Raconteurs that night!

Of course I went to the show. I think I would have gone even if Ali and Bearthaniel would have had to prop me up, haha! The Raconteurs were SO good. They were so good that I forgot how much my feet hurt and how tired I was.

Wednesday I was back at work at 9am, but at least I got to ride in HOV because the dark circles under my eyes had to sit in the passenger seat. I don't think I did anything that night.

Thursday was another regular day and Friday I had off. My initial plan was to just hang out and rest, but I'm never very good at staying home all day. Serena and Ravena were going to see the Sex And The City movie, but I hate paying for movies and rarely go to them. I also figured I would fall asleep during it anyway since they were going to a late showing, haha. However, at a bar I can stay awake and after Christopher called and said some people from college were meeting up, I headed out to meet up with them. I wasn't out very late, but somehow, as it always goes, I didn't get much sleep and headed into work on Saturday on very little sleep...again!

Per my daughter duties, I went to Dulles at about 730 to pick my parents up from their trip to St. Barths. I fell asleep while waiting in the cell phone parking lot. Awesome. Then I drove them home and turned right back around to go to a going away party in Fairfax where I stayed until 4am.

What is wrong with me? hahah! I had to rest my eyes before I could drive home and barely remember the conversation I had on the phone about 20 miles from my house.

Needless to say I slept way in today and will be having no trouble falling asleep tonight...unless someone calls with something fun to do!

Turn, Turn, Turn

It's amazing how things can shape up in a matter of days. How plans and situations can change so much. I love it! It's like mini surprise parties going on randomly. I love surprises.

100 Million

I just bought a lottery ticket. This is what I will do if when I win:

  1. Scream
  2. Call Ali.
  3. Call everyone else.
  4. Pick out my outfit for when the news will want to interview me. Something inspired by my recent fashion magazine reading.
  5. Try to decide if I will quit my job immediately.
  6. Decide that even though I am a millionaire, I will still want the discount at least for awhile.
  7. Go to sleep? I'll want to be rested for a big Wednesday.
  8. Once it's Wednesday, I'll get Starbucks and not worry about it being a $5 cup of joe. (quad venti, biatch.)
  9. I'm a little unsure about when I'll actually get the money. Can I start ordering from JCrew immediately?
  10. I will start to plan the trip to Scotland that Ali and I will be taking asap.
  11. I'll go buy a new XM player since someone (grr) broke the cord on my current one.
  12. I'll buy a ticket to San Fran for when Serena's there just because I can. It'll be like, "Hey, Serena. I'm in CA. Let's do lunch!"
  13. I think I'll buy a ticket to Toronto;) Hey, why not? I've always wanted to go there.
  14. I'll probably then have to do lots of interviews and stuff. It's tough being so popular.
So yeah, what fun! I can't wait to win.

Pueblo (Beach Boys)

I spoke too soon yesterday-Ali may work Tuesday, but she does not work on Wednesday! So, if you're looking for a Rose Girl on Wednesday, then check The OC, bitches. The thing about Ali/Scarlet trips is that no matter where we go or what we do, we have tons of fun. We're going to leave at 330am (4am), lament the fact that we get to Sonic before it opens, hang out on the beach, eat Thrasher's fries, ride some rides, swim, gossip, make lists, and crack up...a lot.

Random memory: I took Ali and her friend, Molly, to the The OC one year and while laying on the sand we saw these guys totally checking out this girl. She kept going into the water only up to her knees and then would splash water on herself. The guys ate this up so I, on a sort of dare (?), mocked her, in view of the guys, and with big movements started to splash water up on myself. She wasn't there anymore, so I wasn't making fun of her. It was more like we were testing the guys...and they failed. Ha, hilarious!

Oh, I am so excited!

Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)

I have a long day ahead of me: Work 7-330 and then off to Richmond for a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But all is good for Team Scarlet as I've got my boos working with me and a fun evening planned:)

Hope everyone has a grand Saturday!

Big Man With A Gun

The other day, when on the phone with my sister, I said, "Are you okay? You sound distracted. Does someone have a gun to your head and you're trying to let me know to send help!?" She said no, she was fine and not to send help, but from there I decided that we needed to decide on our own code in case the situation of a big man with a fun ever arises. Or woman, whatever. I'm not sexist when it comes to crazies with guns.

Yesterday I called her again and before we hung up I said we should practice and pretend like it was one of those terrifying situations. At first, instead of deciding on what we would say, we just jumped into the role-playing*:

Scarlet: "Okay, well, I'll talk to you later!"

Ali: "...Okay. I'll talk to you...llaaaattteeerrrrrrrr."

Scarlet: "Oh No! Does someone have a gun to your head!?"

Ali: "Scarlet, if someone has a gun to my head, I'm not going to be able to answer that."

Scarlet: "Oh."

So we tried again. This time we switched roles**:

Ali: "Bye!"

Scarlet: "Bye! I'm going to go take a nap now."

Ali: "Scarlet, that doesn't flow very well. The guy with the gun is going to know you're trying to let me know what's going on."

Scarlet: "Oh, true, but I was just trying to think of something that you would know I'd never do."

Ali: "Good thinking. Let's modify that. Try again..."

Scarlet: "Bye, Ali!"

Ali (now she's the one with the imaginary gun to her head, in case you lost track): "Bye! Enjoy this amazing and beautiful spring weather!"

Scarlet: *dials 911 because no way in hell would either of us utter the above sentence.* "Haha, wouldn't it be funny if then the gunman adds on, 'Yeah, it's so nice outside!' I wish I could be outside enjoying the warmth."

Ali: "Well, he's a crazed gunman, of course he'd like spring."

So, we're set. If I ever call Ali, or she calls me, and one of us mentions the "nice warm spring weather" we will know to call 911. Hmmm, this will only work until June and then we'll modify it to "this nice 100 degree weather!"

XO,
SVR

*Although, is it role-playing if we're playing ourselves?
**Well, I was still Scarlet and she was still Ali.

I'd Rather Be Wine Drunk

Actually, that's a lie. I don't really like wine. Well, unless it's sparkling, but who cares about my drinking preferances because in just 24 hours, Wine Week is upon us once again!

To say that I am excited is a huge understatement. I can practically taste the many glasses that I will consume tomorrow along with just a smidge of food that, even though delicious, gets in the way of the wine.

But until then, it's back to work on this project...

Tomorrow Is Already Here

I'm a little stressed. If I wasn't so apathetic about it all, I would say I am beyond stressed, but until I'm giving up sleep, it ain't no thang. Meanwhile, in between frantic researching, writing, and creating*, I am counting down to a couple of things.

1. Wed when my sister and I have hair appointments and will probably go out to lunch. I had to miss my last appointment because my job sucks so not only am I in desperate need of a trim, but I'm ready for a change. Well, a slight change. I briefly entertained the thought of going shoulder length, but for the time being I am staying long. "The time being" will probably last as long as this cool weather. Once it starts to get warm I'll be wanting it shorter.

2. Friday. OH MY GOD, Wine Week is upon us once again. I couldn't go last time because I was busy teaching crazy middle schoolers how to play instruments, but my first experience was amazing so I'm really looking forward to it. This year we're going to work through the exhaustion that comes from being wine drunk by 2 in the afternoon so we can then enjoy happy hour and maybe even regular hour;)

3. This is a longer-term thing to look forward to, but in the end of April my cousin is getting married and Ali and I are going. We're going to have an amazing time on Bald Head Island, NC and I'm so going to hook her up with the booze. (I'm hoping to hook up with some boos...hehe.)

Okay, back to work I go. This damn project is due in just a few days...

XO,
SVR

*Soon to be glittering. I'm so going to glitter up this project. Seriously

Black

Last night, as I tucked in under my blanket on Serena's couch, wearing my clothes from the day, yet on my own pillow, I said, "See, it's a good thing I never take things out of my car."

She and I went to a new martini bar in the area last night to check it out. Our official review is that we're definitely going back, but it might be a better place to take a group than to meet someone new. On the way back to her place, my car fell into a crater, and emerged with a flat tire. Because we at first just thought it threw off my alignment, we continued on to her apartment where I was going to cautiously inspect the damage. Well, the damage was that my car wasn't going anywhere for the time being so, the good friend that she is, Serena offered her couch up for the night. (Thank you!)

While I don't exactly drive around with pajamas in my car, I do happen to have a really bad habit of never taking things inside when I get home. So, in my backseat and in various bags I had: a blanket (actually, 2), a pillow, extra knickers*, jeans, t-shirt, new hoodie**, socks, eyeliner***, and a headband. Laziness**** has finally worked out in my favor! I was able to go to work today looking slightly decent and not skank-nasty.

However, I wasn't feeling my hottest, so Superlative Results will be posted later:) Please check back in.

Oh, and no, I didn't go out for St. Patrick's Day. There's a donut on my car and I'm not a big fan of the Irish so I'm at home. It's okay, though. St. Patty's Day means nothing to me if I can't wear my, "I'm Scottish, But Kiss Me Anyway"**** shirt.

XO,
SVR (Not Wearing Green)

*Normally I wouldn't talk about my knickers, but I wouldn't want common thought to be that I either went commando today or well,...no.
**I HATE the word "hoodie" and hate to use it, but it's easier sometimes, unfortunately.
**Thank God. Suriously.
***Laziness when getting home, ok!? I'm not a lazy person, I just hate to make multiple trips inside once I'm there so inevitably stuff gets left in my car.
****All you fuckers get to say you're Irish today, so I get to say I'm Scottish, okay?

Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking

March is looking to be terribly busy so the decision last night to be thrifty was a good one. March is a weird month, and not one I particularly enjoy. Everyone starts talking about spring and the thought of upcoming warm days never puts me in a good mood. Ali and I will be heading down to Bald Head Island in North Carolina in April for our cousin's wedding and I am looking forward to that. See, it's different for it to be warm when a beach is involved.

So we have March with Into The Woods, the musical I am playing in, which will keep me quite busy the week after next. This next weekend is Ravena's birthday and then at the end of March is the much-anticipated Wine Week Extravaganza! Oh, and somewhere in there Ali and I want to take a trip somewhere-Boston, Chicago, etc?

And then April and the wedding...among other things, I am sure. And then it's going to be May. Ew! Warmth! Spring! Can I hibernate then?

Okay, slow down, Scarlet. It's still February. It's still cold. (Thank goodness!)

Happy Birthday

I'm going radio silent until probably Monday as I have a FULLLLLLL and exciting weekend planned for my BIRTHDAY! Today I work 10-630 and then head off to something that I do not know about (thanks to the boos, although I don't know yet what I'm thanking you for.)

And tomorrow...omg....tomorrow we head to NYC!!!!!!! A full day in the city when it's my birthday? Paris Hilton, watch out. The city is MINE tomorrow.

*Tomorrow is also Paris Hilton's birthday.
