Has it been a week already?

Week 1 is over and it has been just wonderful! John was able to take off from work for the week and he and I have a had a perfect time bonding with Sophie and beginning to figure out the world of parenthood together. We were released from the hospital on Sunday afternoon and were anxious to get Sophie home to meet the boys. Dunc and Artie have done really well with her although you can certainly sense a bit of uncertainty from them about just how the world has changed. We are working hard to give them the attention they are used to and they are slowly beginning to except that she is here to stay. :)


A co-worker of mine gave me this idea. The picture below is Sophie with the teddy bear that her Nanny (my mom) and Granny (John's mom) bought her in the hospital. We plan to take a picture of her with the bear each month to show how much she is growing! It will be a cute collection at the end of a year! As you can see, the bear will certainly take some growing in to.

On Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 6:39 PM we welcomed our gorgeous baby girl into the world.

After 25 hours of varying degrees of labor (some hard, some drugged) it was recommended that 3 cm dilated was not going to get us where we wanted to be and we headed for our c-section. I was very disappointed that we did not get to have a "normal" delivery but I was happy that the doctor let me try for as long as he did. Everything moved very fast from this point and it was not long before I heard the sweet sound of Sophie crying.

Sophie was just perfect in the hospital and actually let us sleep more than we expected while we were there. I am very biased but she is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!

As usual, I can not say enough about my wonderful husband during this whole process - keeping me calm, making me laugh, learning how to swaddle via diagrams on the internet from his blackberry, changing every one of Sophie's diapers in the hospital. Also, I should say what a wonderful experience we had at Brookwood Hospital. The staff there was extraordinarily attentive and kind. Now, I guess it is time to learn how to be parents :) Here we go...
