In the village, we gathered at 11am to celebrate spring. The kids from the kindergarten (German) were dressed up like flowers and performed a short skit and song. Dallin actually learned the song this time around. Back in December, he was too embarrassed to sing the song so he just stood up there. We're proud of him and how far he's come this year. Even though he's doing great and understands most of what is said, we've decided to not continue on in the German school for the upcoming school year. Our reasons being that we're not going to force him to learn this language that neither Mike or I speak. After 3 years, I'm sure he'd be completely fluent but then what? We get back to the states, integrate him back into American school and the language is lost because he won't be speaking it regularly with siblings or us. It's been a hard decision but we are confident it's the best for us. The celebrations here are a lot of fun to participate in. I loved the orchestra with their wooden instruments. I'm not sure what they're called though. Last night for witching night, we put a few pieces of toilet paper on a few houses. Nothing bad, just a couple strands here and there. The kids had fun but will have to learn how to be quiet when you're doing the job. Nothing bad happened up in our part of the village, other parts had quite a bit of TP everywhere. We lucked out!

I love the pretzel picture. I can't believe how big Dallin is! Maybe he'll go to a German speaking mission and the German that he's learned will be a good base for him to pick the language up quickly. And I agree, those wooden instruments are totally cool!

Dallin will still continue to pick up some German with some of his friends, etc and possibly he will have the opportunity for a mission or maybe he will take it in college. I just know that when a child has a second language he is more able to exceed in other things. I really love the wooden horns! What beautiful traditions. The pretzel makes my mouth water and I am really glad that we get to see the ways other people celebrate the times and seasons. Dallin was really participating and did a great job with his program!!!He is getting so big, yeah Dallin. The chidren looked very excited to go toilet papering and I never got to have permission to do that from my parents#*!
Great post, the first time we saw the horns was at a Christmas market and I found them so interesting and BIG. We didn't realize that May day was such a holiday here, remember we are in a SMALL village. I tried to buy bread and there was no ovens baking on that day. That is one thing about being here, learn something new everyday. Enjoyed lunch today!
