Tanner Shumway Day at Blue Heron Park

The City of Phoenix wanted to say Thank you to Tanner for all of his hard work at Blue Heron Park. They presented him with a framed letter, and surprised him by unveiling the following stone marker.

Poison Oak is Not Our Friend!

As a result of our August camping trip to the Redwoods, Tanner came down with another case of poison oak.

Tanner's face swelled so tightly that he couldn't open his eye. His arms and legs looked just like this also.

Sheralyn felt left out, so she decided to join him. (Those beautiful red leaves in the campground were so beautiful she just had to collect them!)

When Bryce saw the following picture, he said, "Look, its my handicapped siblings!"

Now, the next question is...what exactly is going on here??  Here are some thoughts, are they:

• Posing as Secret Service Agents?
• Listening to the BYU game?
• Flaunting themselves as hostile alternative-lifestyle activists?
• Tightwad Mormons who can afford only one pair of headsets?
  
• Not well connected enough to get tickets?
• Learning to live the law of concentration?
• or are Pink headsets the new black?

It's Tanner Shumway Day!

The City of Phoenix has officially declared October 10th "Tanner Shumway Day"! How cool is that? Tanner thinks it would be even cooler if they officially closed all the schools in celebration too. School or not, the big day starts with a ceremony that starts at 11:30 at Blue Heron Park and ends with a BBQ! Not too shabby!

As most of you know Tanner has been working, make that slaving, away at beautifying the city's park with landscaping. This was a colossal undertaking in every sense of the word! Tanner had to plan and direct just how to fund this gigantic project and then oversee an army of helpers prepare the site, put in the irrigation, plant hundreds of shrubs, and bark it all.

Here's some numbers for you:

• 0- years of experience in landscaping
• 12- number of sleepless nights
  
• 27- number of volunteers that helped
  
• 392-number of trees, plants, and shrubs planted
• 15,000- number of dollars he raised
  

The pinnacle of the entire project will be on October 14th when Tanner is awarded his Eagle...at long last!
