There was absolutely no reason for this to be here, and there was ZERO reason to give away lakefront land to build it on:
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will open Sept. 22 in Los Angeles after more than a decade of planning. Co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum will feature much more than Star Wars memorabilia.
The five-story building covers 300,000 square feet in Exposition Park. Its 35 galleries occupy approximately 100,000 square feet and will draw from a permanent collection containing more than 40,000 works.
Opening exhibitions will place more than 1,200 objects across over 30 galleries. The displays will range from ancient sculptures and Renaissance paintings to comics, photography, murals, children's book illustrations and cinematic artifacts.
Of course, it's curious how the Friends of the Parks managed to kill the Lucas Museum, but was strangely ineffective for the Sparklefart Monstrosity.

After being called out repeatedly for their hypocrisy a TRIBUNE reporter at the time covered for them by stating that they were friends of "lakefront" parks!
And of course they never ever reported on the sub-contractor that went bankrupt building the Obama "center".
This city's media is a fucking disgrace.
And the parking lot north of the McCormick lake front building that the museum was to be built on is still....a parking lot

The Lucas Museum would have brought jobs and tourists to Chicago.
Friends of the Parks and similar groups did squawk about the Obama Death Star, but the Lakefront Protection Ordinance and other agreements aren't as strong west of Lake Shore Drive.
It all involves agreements made between Marshall Field and Marshal Dillon back in the 1740's. I think Rodney Dangerfield was involved to because he said the parks west of Lake Shore Drive get no respect.

Not to nitpick - but the museum, that would have generated a lot of money for Chicago AND provided a lot of work to the trades was going to be built on a parking lot and not pristine park property. But whatever, Chicago lost a bunch of tax revenue, salaries and in the end we destroyed more park space for the Presidential Library AND the Bears are moving to somewhere else so these will just be very attractive parking lots where nothing untoward will happen.
It would probably be more of a draw than Obama's disaster. I visited Chicago shortly after the opening. The parking lot is visible from the Metra-South Shore rail stop at 57th Street. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, that lot was nearly empty. 4 visitors from Gary got off at the stop, and perhaps were going to visit. Grant Park was wall-to-wall people, as were the museums.
It looks more like a relic from the former Soviet Union. But the Obamas sound like they are relics from that area as well, so it's fitting.
As much as I love Star Wars and the associated off shoots, I've written of Disney/Lucas because of the liberal woke bullshit. I refuse to see anything new by Deniro as well. I can't be too much of a minority in this but I don't care. I also work for a company that was handling security by off duty Cops for the biracial library and even after the company called me and begged that I picked up some shifts, I flat out refused. Liberal woke bullshit is absolutely crushing us here. If you want to continue blaming everyone for your stupid decisions, then go right on wallowing in your own toilet. It's not my fault and I could care less.

All of the sudden the Bears are still considering Arlington Heights. The only problem is that the State of Illinois doesn't have 880 million to give them like they asked for. The NFL commissioner wants the kneelers to stay in Felonois.
