Lots of little finishes here

I'm on a completion kick over here, clearing out some UFOs and WIPs
and sorting through batting scraps and fabric strips.
First up are two sets of placemats:
The top ones were made from a star die I was testing out with my Accuquilt Go cutter
and finished with some sale fabrics from a recent road trip.

This second set was made from leftover from scrappy trip around the world blocks
my guild is making for a charity quilt.
I couldn't discard the trimmings, so I made a set of placemats
and tried out some free motion quilting motifs.

The backing is leftover from another project.
I ran out of that striped fabric,
so two of the placemats are bound in yellow.

The star placemats have a coordinating table runner.

I was in a big clean-up mood, so I cut up this machine quilting practice quilt
into potholder filler.

Which resulted in 16 potholders
ready for my kitchen or gifts.

Here's some green ones, using various scraps and fat quarters

and some orange/red ones.
That boy/girl print in the centre diamond was the backing of the practice quilt.

I used up lots of bits, and cleared out batting pieces too small for quilts
but too large to throw out.

Small finishes for Friday

Sometimes a little fabric aquisition road trip
inspires me to new places.
Like this bobby pin fabric which shouted at me from the sale bin
to make something from it.

So I did. Here is the bigger size and the smaller one,
just the right size for bobby pins.

Here's the five I've made from the half metre cut.
I could probably make another five,
but I'm running out of the right colours for the zippers
and I'm pretty committed to using my 10 cent thrift shop ones
instead of buying retail.

I'm posting the selvage info here because
this fabric got lots of interest on Instagram when I posted it there.

I'm also finished with this wool and polyester crazy quilt.
I tore off the back years ago so now it is just the crazy piecing
on a muslin back.
It doesn't have a sentimental meaning for my family
and no one is sure where it came from
so I'm giving it a local friend
who gives new life to all types of lost and lonely linens.

I finished this set of solid placemats for my SIL recently
quilting them with the walking foot on my Juki
and figuring out different designs for each one.

Here's a shot where you can see the quilting on them.
That's the back on the far right placemat.
I picked a backing fabric that hides the stains.
I figure the blue is the company side and the striped is the everyday side.

Graphic placements finished and gifted

Waaaaay back in November I started these placemats as a gift.

Now they're finally quilted and bound and gifted.
I made four coordinating but not identical placemats
from Konas of various greens and blues.
I bound them in two different blues.

I also made a table runner to complete the set.

The back is a Kaffe print with a grey/taupe background.

This is the side to use when serving a meal with tomato sauce!

Here's the whole set again.

Placemats in progress

Straight-line quilting with a walking foot on a set of four placemats
made with various Kona solids.
I've marked the lines for the matching table runner.

Now just to quilt it, and bind the whole set,
and this wedding gift is done.

I'm linking up with The Needle and Thread Network
and Lee's WIP Wednesdays.

Placemats and pincushions

My dinner table finally boasts a new set of placemats. This is the blue side, featuring some Lipinski prints from several years back.
These are the tops, using up scraps from an exchange as well as some handdyes and Kaffes. Since I look at these everyday, I figure I should use fabrics I really like.
This one has a bunch of fun prints, including that camper van one.
My mail carrier finally delivered this long-anticipated pincushion from Tia, who made it as a gift for me after I made her a pad for her new Singer Featherweight. Thanks, Tia, I love the hand stitching and the cross!
