Isn't it amazing what two simple words together can do? "I'm Sorry" coming from both sides is such a powerful thing. They can truly erase a load of things. Granted, in some cases they cannot make life how it was before those things happened... but they go such a long way!
I really do wish that more of the world knew how to use those words. I really hope that my children learn how to use those words to their fullest meaning.
Tomorrow is a new year, and all is fresh and new. :) I'm not usually one to set "New Year's Resolutions" but this year is different. Tomorrow I start onto my diet again, I start exercising again, and I start potty training the youngest... if he will let me!!
Hope and optimism are such great things to have!
If you would like to link to us....
If you would like to link to us go right ahead, I do ask though that if you know us in real life that you use my kids blog names if you refer to them. I don't use them in my blog or the title for safety purposes. Thanks so much!

Illness
Wow, which would you rather have in your family? A chronic illness or a mental illness?
When a doctor asks my medical history it is decidedly lopsided. Mental illness runs rampant. It has Clinical Depression all over the place, it has Bipolar Disorder sprinkled throughout, and Paranoia here and there. It could be worse, I promise that. I could have Schizophrenia in there too... and there isn't any that I know of.
In the physical aspect of my medical history I have a little diabetis, and skin cancer. With some minor things scattered about.
As far as the two options go, consider this:
On the physical side the person who has it often suffers great physical pain that will never go away, and sometimes emotional trauma, but usually they have their families to surround them and people that love them.
On the mental side the person who has it often suffers great mental pain, often due to the fact that they don't realize that they have an ailment, they often driving those that love them away from them, but often they are otherwise healthy and not in any physical pain.
So, My question is this... if you had to have someone you love have either a chronic illness, or a mental one. Which would you prefer?
I know which I would choose, and it's not the one I got.

Have you ever....
gone to a parent for advice on how to handle a situation with a relative of yours? Just advice... no taking sides etc.
Have you ever had that same relative accuse you of "waging an attack" on them because of it?
Ya. Just happened to me.
All I can say is... my relative must not know me very well if they really think I have it in me to be that malicious... they must not know how much that accusation cuts me to the very core.

It's Jeremy's Birthday!!!
He's officially old, so we went to a movie.
It was Avatar, it was good!!!
I don't think I have heard anyone say it isn't good actually. I loved it and will probably be buying it when it comes out on DVD.

Went To Church
Sacrament happened. (there was a lot of off-key singing. cringe)
Gospel Doctrine happened. (Class member states that Adam had no choice -really?- but to follow Eve in eating the fruit. Hmmm... What if he did? Nowhere does it say he immediately followed her in eating the fruit. Now THAT would have been an interesting discussion.)
Relief Society happened. (Where in the world is the Christmas lesson!?!?! Come to find out, the men had one... think I'll go to their class next time *snicker* would love so see the reactions to that!)
The end. :)

Saying "I'm Done"
when I'm clearly not.
This year I got a start on Christmas late. NEVER again! I tell you! I will never do that again. I have found that by starting late I have succeeded in making the season stressful for the whole family.
You know, that whole "If mama ain't happy, nobody is" thing.
Basically, because I have been worried/stressed out about gifts for others (and this includes two birthdays that fall on tomorrow and Monday) I have been grouchy. And I think because I have been grouchy my kids are acting up and not listening as well as usual... which I have to admit isn't fabulous but it's better than it has been the last couple of weeks!
So today, I decided I'm done. I'm not going to stress about gifts for others anymore. I have my kids Christmas done and my thing for the hubby. I have my parents and in-laws done. Yes, I would love to get things for all of our friends and and co-workers etc.... but honestly, if it's a choice between enjoying a little bit of the season with my kids or getting something small for a gazillion people...
I think I'll pick my kids thanks.
Happy Holidays and if you don't see anything from me, know it's not because I don't really care, it's because I truly DO care about the season and don't want to ruin it for three very special kids.

Bus Trauma
So, yesterday was a bit of a ringer, and the fact that it was a Monday really didn't help.
First things first, Goober missed the bus. I admit it was partially my fault, but I'll also say the bus came early (I later found out that it had a substitute driver, so that was probably why). Anywho, I had to wake up his siblings and bundle everyone up to load in the van to drive him the 2 minutes to school. I'm so glad that Missy didn't choose to be an uber grump like she often is when I wake her up in the mornings. If the path between home and school didn't involve a 50 mph road that needed to be crossed I would have made him walk. But alas, this is why they even HAVE a bus route near our house.
The time between going to school and coming home was exhausting. Not because the kids were all that bad, but because it's that time of the month. Best. Time. Ever. I'm exhausted and my Christmas shopping isn't done yet!
Goobers school day was a short day, due to something about teachers needing time to work during school hours or something. Not entirely sure actually. Happens once a month and seems kinda odd. They never did it when I was a kid, but HEY! they have changed a lot since I was a kid. School providing breakfast is one of them.
So about the time Goober is supposed to be getting home I hear the bus and watch for him to get off. EB is napping, I just put him down no more than a half hour ago.
Goober doesn't get off the bus.
So I sigh, cause I'm tired, and go to the phone to call the school. No sooner do I get a message left on the schools machine than Goober walks in the door. ?? He tells me he "tricked" the bus driver into thinking he wasn't there when it was his turn to get off. Ahhh! Thank GOODNESS he let them know he was there soon enough they could stop and let him off near enough to home that it wasn't a problem.
I got after him, because he has been hiding and such from adults quite often to "trick" them and it worries the SNOT out of me. He hides from his dad every night when he hears the garage door go up signaling he is home. Jer doesn't even acknowledge it anymore because it is so standard. I've told Goober that it's not fun when he does it every night, that one of these times Goober is going to get upset cause dad doesn't look for him. He hides from me at his grandparents house (at the most inopportune times), and now apparently he has taken to hiding from the bus driver.
How do you explain to a six year old that in most cases, hiding from adults is not an intelligent thing to do? Unless of course it is someone that is trying to hurt them. It mostly just irritates adults, it's not fun.
After all of that, I realize he isn't wearing his backpack. I ask him where it is...
It's on the bus.

I am NOT my family.
The title may seem a little abrasive, but I think it says it all.
I love my family. Both my parents, my siblings, my grandparents, my husband, and my children. The do, in fact, effect what I do and who I become. But they are not ME.
I think that many mom's need to be reminded of this. Heck I think many teenage girls need to be told this on a regular basis so that they know that they can be AWESOME with being who they are, not due to anything anyone else does.
When asked to introduce yourself and to tell the group something about you do you only say your name and how many children you have? Or maybe your husbands name? Sometimes who your parents are if the people you are talking to are older than you?
Do you realize that you aren't really saying much about YOU? You are saying who you are related to. Which is safe. I'll admit that. It's usually safe to say you are a mom. That your kid plays soccer, or your husband works at a local business. Or in certain groups (aka college or professional groups) what your job is -- or was.
Have you ever considered stepping outside of the box? Making yourself stand out, not because of who you are related to, but because of what you like to do, or what you want to do?
I think the next time I end up introducing myself to a group of people I'm not going to say how many kids I have. I'm going to say:
"Hi! I'm April, I love to talk. I love to hear peoples views on things. I'm a bit of a nerd. I like to play computer games (aka WoW) I love to do Jigsaw puzzles. Someday I want to go back to school in Mechanical Engineering, I think I would be good at that."
or maybe:
"Hi! I'm April, I love to read. I want to learn how to do just about everything. I would love to learn how to do Stain Glass Windows and how to weld. I'm good at visual things and I used to be a Florist."
Basically, I'm going to challenge myself to be ME. Not my position, not my title (mom). ME!

Santa's Helper
Basically, Grandpa is Santa's helper. He helps because Santa is busy getting the toys and stuff together for the Big Night. So Grandpa listens to what the kids want and then makes sure Santa knows!
The kids know to pretend that Grandpa is Santa when he is pretending too. It's all part of the fun of Christmas!

Sat in the Sun's 2009: a non-sugarcoated synopsis
This year was .... um, a year. LOL
We moved into our new house in January of last year and have ever since missed our old one! But it IS starting to grow on us a little. Paint, I need to paint... that will make it aaaaaaaall better. Ok, maybe not, but it WILL make it more "Mine".
We went to the new ward a few times.
My New Years Resolution last year was to loose some "poundage" which I did a little. 15 lbs... though with the way I've been eating lately I may have gained back... dunno, avoiding the scale thankyouverymuch.
On a more positive note in February I got all of the photos of my entire pre-digital camera life scanned into the computer and put onto discs. YAY, what a feat! Had no clue I had so many duplicate pictures.
I also bought the kids new church clothes to wear to church. Then we got "The Crud" and missed some church for a while. It's easy to do when you don't know very many people, the kids don't want to go, and it interrupts the toddlers nap time.
Not much happened in March besides crappy weather.
In April we put in a much needed fence in the backyard. BEST. INVESTMENT. EVER. We went to the zoo some, got sunburned, and Liam learned how to open the sliding glass door, so we promptly put a UBER-LOCK at the top of it.
My Birthday happened, the last one that I will be in my twenties for.
My parents gave the kids a massive backyard toy as an early birthday present, which they adore, and which we got all put together before April ended :)
May brought Missy's 4th birthday and Kindergarten Graduation for Goober.
My motherboard on my computer died and I got separation anxiety while it was gone being "fixed".
We got our Garage cleaned out so we could actually park cars in it! Crazy I KNOW! imagine people actually using their garage for CARS!
And the Summer commenced!
June brought Goober 6th Birthday and swimming lessons for both Goober and Missy, which they adored and did very well at! EB wanted to join in, but I decided that would wait one more year. Thank goodness the swim pool has a playground near it!
I found out that my "fixed" computer can no longer handle uploading music from CD's or the internet... therefor my Ipod (which I got for my Birthday) is now mainly used for planning and notes to myself. Oh. and Pandora.
We took a trip to Washington for my sisters graduation from college. A rare trip out of town for us, but totally enjoyable!!! I'm still proud of her for that.
In July we celebrated the 4th with my parents at their house :) We took the kids to Riot Zone (which they adored, and which doesn't happen very often due to funds). My eldest sister came to visit with her family. My kids followed them around like puppy dogs. Cousins are always a VERY exciting thing around here.
August brought EB's 2nd Birthday, we went to a baseball game with Grandma and Grandpa S. SO. MUCH. FUN. even if we couldn't stay the whole game! aka late night and grumpy kids.
School started again. This time with Goober in 1st grade and Missy in Preschool. I started looking for someone to carpool Missy home from Preschool.
I also found out that I am insulin resistant.... and started looking into the specifics of that.
The Fair happened in September. Always an enjoyable moment!
No carpool for Missy still but making an effort to find one.
Realized we have been AWOL from church.
Jer and I's 8th anniversary was late in the month, making me worry that maybe the long planned trip for our 10th anniversary might need to see some fundage starting.
October brought the realization that I'm actually more of a feminist than I previously thought. I also totally gave up on the carpool thing.
Goober had his first ever sleep over, having his friend Mr M stay the night. He had an absolute blast! He also lost another tooth. He has now lost 5 total. He was stoked.
Bullies at the bus stop start to tease Gavin. Jer warns them.
We find out Jer is also insulin resistant.
Halloween happens! Iron man, Fairy, and the Puppy dog have a blast trick or treating.
In November I talk to "bus stop bullies" parents and put the kibosh on that nonsense.
I made pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving which turn out great, and get to enjoy my sister Jo and her whole family for the holiday! SO MUCH FUN! :) Great to see them!
And that brings us to December! Jers 30th birthday is later this month *gasp* and the Christmas shopping isn't done yet. One of the kids found their "main" present, and I fear my fingers are going to freeze off. Ya, that's about it!
Hope everyone has a sanity filled Christmas and a non-stressful New Year!!!! :)

Needless to say I have been a little surprised school hasn't been canceled do to cold. The other day the wind chill had it down to -18 :P
Guess that's what I should expect in Idaho.... huh? :D

Why in the WORLD are they so hard to buy for!?
Well, never mind, I know the answer to that.
Who am I talking about? Parents! That's who.
I don't know about you, but my parents and in-laws seem to have about everything they could want (that is in my price range anyways) and if per chance I DO come across something they MIGHT want oftentimes they end up buying it for themselves before I have the chance to give it to them! UGH! lol
Can you tell I still have shopping to do? :)

In full disclosure...
I've noticed that a lot of my posts lately have been about pet peeves and things that annoy me. And this from the person that complains that the News media doesn't focus enough on the GOOD stories!
Wow, guess the stress of the season is getting to me, eh? :D
For the record most of the things that I mention that "irritate" me... don't really irritate me that much. Within the week it is history. The fact that I have the time to notice someone throwing crap out their car window etc etc says that I don't have other more pressing problems to focus on. Needless to say, I'm VERY happy about that! I know life can always throw a curve ball at me at any time... and lately I'm glad the only things it's been throwing at me are pillows (as far as problems go... OH CRAP! Please don't let me have just jinxed myself!) and that the only real problem that may cause is me focusing too hard on inconsequential things.
Life is good, I have a warm home with crazy children that are full of personality and spunk. I have a loving husband that puts up with my utter confusion at the moment on the religious front and is willing to listen and let me bounce ideas off of him. Jer has a job. I can't say how thankful I am for that. I know many people without them this holiday season. I have loving family and caring friends and a God that I know is fully aware of me.
I can't ask that life be perfect. Besides the fact that in the important things it pretty much is! I can't ask that people think the way I do, or do things the way I would. How boring would life be if that were the case?! Very, very boring... wow. VERY BORING. And I'm grateful that it's not! Besides, who doesn't love a story about something crazy happening?! :)

How boring would life be if that were the case?! Very, very boring... wow. VERY BORING. And I'm grateful that it's not! Besides, who doesn't love a story about something crazy happening?! :)

Excuse Me, Wait A Minute....
So last night Jer and I were playing W.O.W., as we often do in the evenings, when the doorbell rang. I didn't hear it (note to self, get a doorbell thing for downstairs!) but Jer did.
I opened the door to a man that I recognized from the ward. I didn't remember his name (and honestly still don't!) but he had a plate of cookies and no coat. So I invited him in... cause DANG it is cold outside now!
He came in and talking to Jer and I for a while and in the end asked if Jer would be a home teacher... to which Jer happily accepted. After talking for a while longer the man asked if we could say a prayer. Both Jer and I consented.
Then something was said that I have to admit, in the past I would not have given a second thought about. However that was not the case last night. Our visitor then stated "Jer, since you're the boss of the house, why don't you go ahead."
Boss.... hmmm
Then Jer started to say the prayer and I could barely pay attention to it, musing over if I should or should not speak up about the term "boss" and if so, how could I do it in a tactful way.
Jer and I work as a team. Neither one, nor the other, is any better or any more in charge than the other. I could have easily written off the statement if he had used "Priesthood leader, or Man of the house" because even though I see small injustices with those terms too, I understand that as part of the LDS culture and church that the Priesthood is recognized as only being held by the husband in the relationship of marriage.
As far as the term "Boss" goes though... I actually see myself as filling those shoes the most. I am, I will admit, the bossiest person in our house. I'm constantly telling the kids what to do (or not do) and notifying Jer of appointments or responsibilities or chores that the him and I need to be doing.
Granted, Jer brings in the funds to keep our family running, he helps with putting kids to bed and changing diapers when he is home, he often times cooks, etc etc etc... he does a ton of stuff! So considering all of this, I still don't think that our house has a "boss".
A Partnership, yes... but no soul proprietorship here. Thanks anyways, I like to be acknowledged for what I'm worth and how much I contribute to our house.
You might ask if I ever spoke up.... well, no. I didn't.
I ended up staying in my conundrum until well after our guest left our home. I didn't say anything about it. In fact I'm still in it. I didn't even mention to Jer how much that rubbed me wrong, I don't know if he noticed it or not...
It's a little thing I guess... or is it?

Here's Your Sign!
Goofy thing I guess... as I was driving tonight I got really ticked off.
What is funny about it is that it wasn't cause someone cut me off in traffic or because someone was going at a snails pace in front of me.
It was because someone threw a live cigarette out their car window. Kinda anal to get mad about I guess. I just fail to see why many people seem to think the rules apply to everyone else and not to them. And it shows in something as simple as someone throwing litter on the ground and thinking it doesn't matter.
It is a lame thing to get mad about though. Sometimes I wish I had a big sign at the ready to pick up and hold up in the air saying "Here's your sign!!!!"*

If you don't get the reference, take some time to watch this :)

Christmas Lights
And yes, I did the lights, cause I'm impatient and was home during the daylight hours to do it!
It may not seem like much, but for a person that is terrified of heights those white ones above the door were a bit unnerving. And yes, that is all the lights we are going to be doing... so meh!Goober wants more on the outside of the house, but for some reason I think that even if I put a bazillion of them out there he would still want more.

And It's Begun
So I joined a lot of other people in doing the same thing. Now all I have to do is get the shopping done *ugh* and beat Jer into putting the lights on the outside of the house!
