A healthy boy

Jack had a visit with the urologist yesterday to discuss his kidney issues. It turns out his kidney problem is much less serious than they had originally thought while in utero. After doing an ultrasound on Jack himself instead of looking at him through me, they were able to see that he has three small cysts on his left kidney. These cysts don't appear to be causing any problems and he'll most likely be just fine. We will do another ultrasound in a couple of months, but the urologist said he will probably go through life with no problems from this at all. Good to know.

Other than that, here are some bath time pictures. He really likes his baths!

Relaxing in the nice warm water...

Showing us his profile. He's havin' a great time!

And time for the final rinse. Ahh...

Hanging with the family

Jack was so excited to finally meet some of his extended family this weekend. He is looking forward to meeting all of his aunts and uncles and grandparents and spending lots of time with them!

Here's Jack and Aunt Miriam. He loved to pull her long hair.

Here is Jack with Uncle Steve. Jack introduced himself by making a mess on Steve's shirt...

And here are Jack and Uncle Thomas. Jack admired Tom's board game skills.

And of course, he spent lots of time being cuddled by his Grandpa and Grandma!

Things to do in Washington

Well, we made it to Washington for the weekend. Jack really did not like riding in his car seat for so long, but he survived. He had a very busy weekend with lots of activities going on. Maybe that is why he hardly slept!

Here he is helping his dad play "Axis & Allies" with Uncle Tom.

He is wearing his summer hat, but it's a bit too big. Maybe next summer it will fit.

Here he needed some alone time to look at his toy.

And at the end of the day, he finally slept for a bit on Grandma. What a relaxing vacation!

Just some cute pictures

There's not too much to say today, but these pictures are just cute so they needed to be posted. Jack is starting to smile a lot more and to talk a little. He's not a big sleeper still. I guess he just wants to be awake to see what's going on. He likes to look all around and is studying faces more. We're going to attempt his first road trip up to Washington this weekend. He doesn't really mind his carseat as long as the car is moving. So with all the freeway driving, he should sleep most of the way. We'll see...

Doggone Cute

We recently got a package from Great Grandma Park (sent to us from Grandma Marshall) with some very cute outfits, so Jack decided to model his new PJ's for the camera. This particular outfit even came with a matching doggy bib! Thanks Grandma!

Jack's First Bath

Jack finally had a real bath last night. He didn't cry at all, which to me means he liked it. He'll have more fun when he realizes he can splash the water with his hands and feet. No more baths on the kitchen counter after that!

He looks a little startled in the picture, but he was pretty calm the whole time.

After bath time Jack's hair was nice and fluffy!

A few more pictures

Just a couple more pictures of us together. Jack is getting cuter (and bigger) every day. He has already grown out of some of his little onesies. We're still working on his night time sleeping habits. I know he'll sleep longer eventually, it's just hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel! In other news, Jack's umbilical cord stump is finally off. Now he can have a real bath. Maybe we'll snap some pictures of his first bath (strictly decent pictures, of course). That should be an adventure!

Whenever someone pushes Jack's eyebrow down, his lip curls up "Elvis-style." It's pretty cute!

First Family Pictures

We've been trying to get some family pictures taken, but we don't usually have another person around who can take them! While Grandma Culwell was in town, she tried to take a few pictures for us. I don't feel like we've really captured Jack's cuteness yet, but we'll keep trying. He should start smiling pretty soon (besides in his sleep), and we'll keep taking pictures.

In other news, we had an ultrasound done on Jack's kidneys. The pediatrician said both kidneys look good in size and shape, and the left kidney does have a few small cysts. He said that it is not as serious as they may have originally thought, so we're just going to see a urologist later this month and he'll just keep an eye on it. That's good news for Jack!

Thanks Grandma Culwell!

He really is cuter than the pictures portray. He just doesn't know how to pose yet!

I meant to post these pictures earlier, but Sander left the camera at school for the weekend so I didn't get the chance. Grandma Culwell came to spend time with Jack and to help out during the difficult newborn stage. I'm very grateful to have gotten in some good naps and meals during her stay. Jack loved to spend hours rocking in Grandma's arms. After she left he started having long crying periods in the evenings. We think it's because he misses her. Or it could be indigestion...

Two weeks old

Jack is two weeks old now. It seems like he's changed so much already! He's not sleeping terribly well, but he's growing fast. He already weighs 9lbs as of Monday. He has an ultrasound for his kidneys scheduled for tomorrow and then we'll see where we go from there. Overall he seems like a content baby. We hope he stays that way!
