Avery's Special Day!

Avery's Baptism was a wonderful, spiritual day. Although we missed having family here with us, we shared it with many great friends that made the day even more special. Avery was able to be baptized with her best friend Maggie. She was nervous for the day to come but was smiling from ear to ear when it finally arrived. We love our Avery and and are grateful for the wonderful choices she is making.

September was a busy month!

We had a lot of big things happen in our family this month!

We went camping for Labor Day (first time this year... thanks to crazy weather...)Fab weather, lots of kite flying and a really big bon fire (or a 20 ft explosion, call it what you want!)

Avery FINALLY lost a tooth... or two. Notice the two full teeth behind all ready to take their places.

We were lucky enough to have Gramma and Grampa come out for an adventure with us. We drove to St. Louis and then on to Nauvoo. We didn't have much time, but we managed to visit the Arch in St. Louis (and travel to the top...630 ft up!) We were then off to Nauvoo where we pretty much had the town to ourselves. It was a bit rainy but I'd rather that than high heat and humidity. We saw a few of the Homes, The Browning Blacksmith Shop (our ancestor...very cool) and walked down Parley Street to the trail of hope. There was a wonderful spirit there, and I wished we had had more time to wonder (not that the kids had much patience for our wonderings...) Hopefully we'll make it back to see what we missed.
We were so glad to share that with Gramma and Grampa. Definitely a fun and full month!

Back to School, Everyone!

What a big day, here at the Rutherfords! School is starting and the whole gang is out the door and off to school. Renae is excited and nervous because she is starting 5th grade at the Middle school. Big change for her! Reese is totally excited for Kindergarten. She loves new friends and has been looking forward to riding the bus with her sisters. Avery is just glad to be on to 2nd grade and out of the portables... I mean, "Cottages"... I tell her that 2nd grade was my favorite so she's looking forward to a great year.

This is Avery with her buddy, Maggie. Luckily, they don't have the same teacher, otherwise they would be in trouble all the time!

This is Renae and her, BFF, Cora (Maggie's sis). They decided they were old enough to ride the bus on the first day of school, which was fine with me because traffic over there is a nightmare and this way, I was able to snap a couple pics without her being totally embarrassed!!!

I snuck this pic while we were at "back to school" night. No one was looking so she was ok with it...

I love these wonderful girls! It was a long, tiring week but they pushed through and made it to friday. We celebrated with a Shaved Ice and looked forward to the weekend.
Reese did end up having some struggles with missing her Momma and wanting her friends(who aren't at this school) She has told us all weekend that she's not going back, that she doesn't want to leave me home alone, and she doesn't have any friends. We, of course, encouraged her, loved on her, snuggled and said it would be ok. I am dreading tomorrow morning, but am encouraged by her little prayer at bedtime tonight. "Please help me to be strong at school. Help me to not think of Momma and help her to take us bowling on friday." What a trooper! I love her to bits. Wish us luck!!!

I've finally figured it out!

I finally figured out how to do smocking on a dress/shirt/skirt. I didn't realize it would be so easy! Now that I know that it's this simple and versatile, I may never do a waistband again. Reese would love such a soft and stretchy waistband on a skirt. She has a dress that she loves that is getting too small, so I decided it was time to figure out how it was done. Now the other girls want dresses just like it. Time to get sewing!

Here is a bonus pic of our fabulous girls! Wow, how we love them!

Pioneer power!

Cutie, huh? Avery had a pioneer field trip today to a one room school house, learning about Arkansas history and such. This girls loves to dress up! I made this outfit, hoping she would not hate it and she ended up wearing it after school for the 3 days before the field trip. I hope she has a fun day. She makes a great "Half Pint", don't you think?

Renae's Poodle Pagent!

Renae's 4th grade put on the play 101 Dalmations. The 4th grade class is going into Middle School next year so they celebrated their Elementary graduation with a fabulous production. They did a great job! She was a bit overwhelmed with the costume but as a whole they all looked great. I just can't believe she's old enough for Middle School but we toured her new school and she's so excited for all the new things she'll get to learn. You're the best, babe!
*Hint- if you can't find her in the video, she's the one who forgot to put on the pink cat-eye glasses!

Avery's Poetry Cafe

Avery's 1st grade class put on a Poetry Cafe in class to help them practice their performing skills. They each memorized a poem and wrote two others to recite in front of an appreciative audience(you know, the proud parents!) They worked on talking clearly, keeping eye contact with the audience, and using hand gestures. She did a wonderful job and we are so proud of her!

Our Fabulous Avery!

It was brought to my attention that our little Avery is rarely pictured in our posts. The first born and last born are often captured in our shots, but our Avery is a bit illusive. But Avery is anything but a timid flower, so I thought I would just post some recent pics of our fabulous Ave and give her a moment in the spot light. It's really that she is in constant motion, so ending up with a focused pic is usually the issue. She is a huge spirit in a pint-sized package, making her way with a completely different game plan. We love her to bits!

Fabulous Girls Weekend!

In February, I was able to fly far away to Monterey, CA to spend a wonderful weekend with my sisters and my friends, some from College, one from Kindergarten, another I just met. It was a great time, catching up with each other, unplugging from work and responsibility, remembering why we have so much fun together. It was the best of family time and friend time for me, getting to do them together. Eight of us descended on my sister Kari's house in Monterey. Kari and Allison were fabulous hosts(as always)and worked hard to help us unwind and relax. As usual, time went way too fast and before I knew it, I was back home with my little family, doing the wife and Mommy thing. I wouldn't trade that for anything, but it sure is nice to get a break every now and then. Thanks, Ladies, for a wonderful weekend and I'm looking forward to the next!

Daddy Daughter Dance 2011!

Renae and Mike enjoyed the Daddy Daughter Dance this year at her school. Renae looks so grown up. Mike enjoyed spending time with his precious young lady, although getting him to dance was not easy!

2011 Snow days!

We had some crazy snow storms this winter, like so many others out there. They resulted in many snow days off from school, a few sledding adventures and definitely some play time in the snow. I never thought we'd ever hear the girls groan when told they would have another snow day at home, but around the 8th or 9th, I think we were all sick of it! Just more evidence of the crazy Arkansas weather!
