Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 11

Sometimes there is so much behind the scenes work going on weeks if not months ahead of it's actual release, it can get confusing. 

Especially when Market is around the corner and your new book is about to be released. I completely forgot it was time for Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 11. 

That was until this showed up on my doorstep:

It was a wonderful surprise! I even had this magazine in my hand for a few days before I realized my block was on the cover! (It's right next to Corey Yoder's name, to the right)

Here's a better look at my block, #1092! It's called Nesting and makes a really neat secondary pattern when you lay out the blocks. 

I hope you all have a chance to get this magazine and create a bunch of the blocks, they all finish at 12" so you can mix and match and create your own sampler or some minis. I know I have fun working on these blocks. 

This issue is on newsstands now, so check around and get a copy!

A little late to the party...

I know I'm behind on posting this one, but better late than never!

I am so honored to have a block featured in Quiltmaker's 100 Designer Blocks Volume 10! That means there are 1,000 different designer blocks!!! It's an amazing achievement and I'm glad to be a part of it!

You can find my block #991 Sea Glitz in this issue. It's my second time being part of this publication and I can't tell you how much I love this block. It looks complex, but it's really easy and is packed with personality. 

I'm actually working on a new version of this block now and will show it soon, well, soon as in quilter terms, which means I can't show you yet, but trust me, the wait will be worth it!

So sorry for the delay, I spent the day going to the hardware store (twice) and prepping for Market and by the time I ate dinner and got a shower (trust me I needed it), it's dark out and it's almost time to go to bed! Where did the day go?!

Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Vol. 9

A while ago I was so excited when I got asked to submit a block for Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks. I was so excited and my mind started racing. I designed a block and sent it in...I honestly completely forgot all about it until I got an e-mail one day... I saw it in my inbox and didn't get a chance to read it until that evening. Then when I actually opened it later I was shocked to know that my block made it into Volume 9, on newsstands May 6th!

 I tried my best to think of something fun and my style and I came up with Starlet, block #893!

 Now, if you're a regular follower of my blog (thanks!) you know I don't normally make 12" blocks. I make small and smaller and SCRAPPY! So how did I conquer the challenge of such a large block? I just made it with smaller pieces. Nothing too small. And I opted for a variety of sizes to make it a bit more fun. To keep the variety going (it is the spice of life, you know?) I mixed a teeny tiny polka dot with a solid and a Civil War Reproduction print. It's like a fruit cocktail of my stash. :)

 Now, once I got the block made, I immediately wanted to make a whole quilt with my Civil War stash. I would keep similar toned backgrounds and either one black for all of the blocks or a different black for each one. I guess it will just depend on the mood I'm in when I get to cutting it out! (pardon the background if it looks yellow on your screen, I tried for a tan-ish cream... in one screen on my computer it's the perfect color, on here, maybe not so much...)

 But then I got to thinking, what if you faded the colors? You could keep it monochromatic like this one...

Or you could add in a pop of color like this one. Being an Ohio girl I just had to color this block with the red (or should I say scarlet???). O-H! I-O!

The options are endless! I had a blast making this block and I have a full quilt in mind, but sadly right now it's going on the quilting bucket list.
