New Moos!!!

Well, one moo so far really. Last week I just missed the first calf being born by just minutes! I was so busy that day I wasn't able to run over and get pictures. Then it rained and the little rascal was hiding in the barn for awhile, but I was able to finally get pictures later in the week!

 He's too stinkin' cute! He's finally losing that wobbly awkward stage and moving a bit more confident now.

 He's just the first of five calves to be born this year hopefully.

 This day was still a bit on the rainy side, but it really showed off the colors in the trees as they're greening up! I have to say I really love that this is just one of my views while I quilt!

 I think this cow is the next to have a calf, but I could be wrong. Bud (the neighbor who owns these cows) thought she would be first...

Momma is being super protective and that's just fine for a sleepy little bull calf! I can't wait for more to come!

Days of Fall

So, personally the best place I like to be when the weather is switching over to Fall is in my hometown. Conveniently, that happens to be where my quilting machine is with wonderful views of the outside.

Last week I was there several days. I stayed home over the weekend and when I returned on Monday the leaves had already started to change! But the dogs have a different pace, the cows are feeding constantly, the air is more crisp, everything changes.

So how about we take a picture journey through my Fall days?

 So this is the newest baby moo cow and one of the new bulls. They were inseparable that day.

 From where I was taking pictures of the newest pattern, the cows were just off to the side. And they were very intent on what I was doing (at least the ones that weren't stuffing their faces).

 The colors on the leaves have already started to change.

 Ever had beagles before? They are notorious for being escapees. Just look at the hole Miss Joy is trying to dig to China under her house. This is Paige above, weren't not sure exactly what she's mixed with but it has to be terrier because she can jump straight up and look you in the eye.

 This is Joy. She will try to squeeze every ounce of her being through the fence if she could to love on you.

 But when that doesn't work she falls asleep in your hand.

 Paige again, love that old scruff!

 And now onto the other mongrels. These guys are normally not fond of the camera but they were so konked out that I had no problems snapping pictures of them. Tucker is the little brat. He and I have a love/hate relationship. But he is cute!

 Hershey, Hershey, Hershey. Does anyone else have a dog that sleeps like this? It doesn't look comfortable.

 And Miss Abby Sue. Here she is being the ham that she normally is...

But this was how I found her that day. Normally as soon as you walk in the room she rolls over like she was doing something wrong, but I managed to snap a picture or two on this day.

Love the critters, especially when they're lethargic and quiet. Unlike yesterday when my brother was "tuning his goose call" and it was driving the dogs insane, which was not a fun time to be had...

New Moo's

So, my neighbor  has cows, and they are too adorable! This year he was expecting 4 babies and they're all here (kinda).  I posted about the oldest two back here, but I have new updates.

So, the third baby that was due, unfortunately didn't make it. Momma's belly kept growing, but the baby ended up being still born... Not a good situation, but Bud ended up bringing home another Momma with her brand new baby instead so the baby count was still at three at the time with one more on the way.

 You really can't see him here, but he's nursing on Momma.

 Then last weekend the last little stubborn one made his way into the world, just a little backwards. Literally.  His Momma is known for being noisy, but since he's here in the flesh she is noisier than ever keeping tabs on him. He was just born last Saturday and I took this picture Wednesday afternoon so he's only a few days old here.

So all cows are here and accounted for which leaves us with the grand total of two older bulls, four heifers, and four babies (three bulls and one girl). The range in ages for the babies spans over the last four months, and the oldest (the girl) is definitely the most playful and spunky. Hence why I call her Spunky McGee. Mom witnessed her one morning jump on the newest baby wanting to play, but he's so much smaller than her that she knocked him right over. They're all fine and they do play like puppies if you can imagine, just a bit rougher.

The only other small incident was yesterday morning when the newest baby rolled underneath the fence while getting up from laying down and then found himself outside of the fence... Momma was not a happy camper! But he's fine, they got him right away and put him back where he needs to be and all is well.

I have such a fun time watching these guys when I'm quilting. The view from the room with the long arm machine looks out into the front of their pasture. They all have wonderful personalities and I never thought I would have cows as neighbors, but it's fun!
